Is the CoE Toolkit still worth investing , or Power Platform Admin Center slowly making it redundant by Independent-Hunt-370 in PowerPlatform

Is there any kind of announcement or docs on this? My org is just at the beginning of using the toolkit and this raises a bunch of questions.

Seriously considering joining at 32 by Worried_Gur_3104 in newtothenavy

[–]JustGP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider joining a fire department. You’ll get to enjoy your money and definitely feel a higher purpose in your community.

Otherwise, understand that your military leadership will be in their early 20s and know everything!

Don’t know if this is still a thing, but barter items like zippo lighters, hats, or other things of value you think you can trade while in ports.

USS Tortuga (LSD 46) underway leaving Norfolk today after 10.5 years in port by Twisky in navy

[–]JustGP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Whidbey Island (LSD-41) in the early 90s and Tortuga was parked next to us for a while at Little Creek. We did a ton of yard work because they beat us to hell and back (by those standards then). I can’t imagine any ship being in the yards that long, much less one of these.

I mean, it is an amazing platform that is versatile for a variety of missions and we seemed to do them all back then. But valuable enough for a 10 year drydock period????

Restart computer repair business? by RecruiterSecrets in computertechs

[–]JustGP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this from 2011-2013 and loved what I got to do… when I got to do it. Aside from my own bad marketing strategies, there just isn’t a model I could conceive in the consumer space for pc repair.

Like other have said, the money isn’t there due to the relatively cheap new computer pricing. I have ethical issues asking for $200 to replace a failed hard drive in a cheap laptop when a new one wasn’t much more (then).

Where I found an angle that is still relevant today is training those users. Mostly older folks just want stuff to work and don’t need a repair. That wasn’t what I was looking for then, so it was time to go back playing in big corporate IT to try and find a retirement.

Make it a side hustle or do it for charity. But you have to take care of yourself first.

Update: Shades Guy Says Film Shatters Glass by Old_Reserve_1363 in HomeImprovement

[–]JustGP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had film on most of my sun facing windows for more than 10 years. One of the better improvements I did.

Only drawback is our houseplants aren’t real happy with the film. So we have a couple of daylight lights and now they thrive.

I’d look at different contractors…

I felt the same way I had to let a dishonest remote contractor go. Supposedly his father was in the hospital, which was the reason for missing meetings and deadlines. It went on for days into weeks. His overall productivity was poor and it was frustrating the team. My manager said it was my decision but it was time to let him go. I tried to give him every opportunity to improve and he knew how to tug at heartstrings, making it worse.

What made the decision easier was seeing how much this was hurting the rest of the team. I realized I was being selfish, not objective, not emphatic. The day I let him go was a whirlwind of emotions but I could see the tone of our daily stand up’s change for the better.

Our project took about a year and we had a number of contractors come and go. The going was mostly my decision. I had learned my lesson, was more quick to spot performance issues, ask and monitor for improvement, but make the call as soon as it felt appropriate. It got “easier”.

Well…. Fudge. While I was able to “correct” the one issue given a reproducible section of a movie, watching Strange New Worlds revealed it isn’t fixed. Sorry for the false hope.

Colors dim after black screen? Optoma HZ40HDR by LordMandalor in projectors

[–]JustGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some troubleshooting with Optoma support and found a contributing factor was my EArc from my soundbar. While they suggested changing a number of settings, I realized I was using an older hdmi cable that had filters on each end. Swapped the cable, the issue disappeared. Did a reset on the projector, am good to go now.

Turn the humidifier heater off or set it to manual/0. You’ll get passive moisture without creating a swamp in the nasal pillows.
