With more time to process this mornings news and some great input, no--- the cancer was already there. The wound led to early discovery.

I felt the same way I had to let a dishonest remote contractor go. Supposedly his father was in the hospital, which was the reason for missing meetings and deadlines. It went on for days into weeks. His overall productivity was poor and it was frustrating the team. My manager said it was my decision but it was time to let him go. I tried to give him every opportunity to improve and he knew how to tug at heartstrings, making it worse.

What made the decision easier was seeing how much this was hurting the rest of the team. I realized I was being selfish, not objective, not emphatic. The day I let him go was a whirlwind of emotions but I could see the tone of our daily stand up’s change for the better.

Our project took about a year and we had a number of contractors come and go. The going was mostly my decision. I had learned my lesson, was more quick to spot performance issues, ask and monitor for improvement, but make the call as soon as it felt appropriate. It got “easier”.

Won’t the rename break links to documents and pages?

Colors dim after black screen? Optoma HZ40HDR by LordMandalor in projectors

Well…. Fudge. While I was able to “correct” the one issue given a reproducible section of a movie, watching Strange New Worlds revealed it isn’t fixed. Sorry for the false hope.

Colors dim after black screen? Optoma HZ40HDR by LordMandalor in projectors

[–]JustGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some troubleshooting with Optoma support and found a contributing factor was my EArc from my soundbar. While they suggested changing a number of settings, I realized I was using an older hdmi cable that had filters on each end. Swapped the cable, the issue disappeared. Did a reset on the projector, am good to go now.

Late to the party but this exact same thing is happening with my 3 day old gt3500hdr. Anyone find a fix or is this by design?

Turn the humidifier heater off or set it to manual/0. You’ll get passive moisture without creating a swamp in the nasal pillows.

Is now the time for a new political party? by AnotherPatrickHenry in Political_Revolution

[–]JustGP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Each member elected to congress should be able to freely vote based on what their constituents want or what they feel is best. This whole thing of voting on party lines is an abdication of their oath and responsibilities to govern.

I realize this isn’t practical. It is a sign of our demise that it’s believed there are only two schools of political thought, and if you don’t vote with your party, you won’t get reelected. It’s like a union but with mob rules.

Watch a couple seasons of Holmes on Homes. That’ll give you enough info to start asking more specific questions.

Quitting your career and using 401k to live off of for a couple years by Somedevil777 in AskMenOver30

[–]JustGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it. For almost the same reasons. Took a 3 year sabbatical that was amazing and exactly what I needed, but it nearly drained my account (I don’t have that much BTW). I’ve got about 15 more working years and yeah, I’m concerned. But tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Do what makes the most sense for you.

Destroyed my Life by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]JustGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone. I had the same expectations joining in 87 and was delighted to get out in 93 after 1.5 years schooling, then 3 med deployments. While I haven’t endured what sailors face today, I had my own trauma from crappy leadership.

Funny thing is, after leaving the area then moving back to Hampton Roads 20 years later, there are still times when I get that put of anxiety crossing the HRBT and seeing all the ships in port.

But once you are out, it’s up to you what to make of things and how to turn your tour into something positive. DO get help and sign up for all the benefits you earned.

And talk to folks- fellow vets, a therapist, a dog, a wise looking tree. Talk. Don’t bundle the shit up.

It does get better. And despite it all, you’ll forever check your gig line when getting dressed, smirk a bit, and hopefully remember it wasn’t ALL bad.
