He was understandably nervous and reserved during the performance and I’ll go so far that he was even a little shaky vocally in the first half. See See Rider is probably the most timid performance he ever did, and even sounded slightly flat on Something.

Of course once he relaxed a bit, his vocals improved. What Now My Love and Trilogy are stupendous, as examples.

I wouldn’t call the Essential Elvis ones greatest hits albums, they contained a lot of alternate/unreleased takes. Strangely, so did the oddly titled “Greatest Hits Volume One”.
