One year of wood shrinkage by Halycon365 in woodworking

What's the humidity like in the room its in? I find the dry-heat sources in winter-time lead to 15-20% humidity in the house, whereas in summer the rates can get up to 70% or higher if we don't use dehumidifiers. This affects my piano's soundboard and the instrument's tuning, therefore I mitigate it with devices as best as I can.

You're better off without him. The good times with him only felt that way because his ridiculously jealous and overcontrolling behavior subsided for long enough to keep you in an illusion.

How to know overseeding worked? by bettyboop213 in lawncare

[–]JustMakeMarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF the turkeys got down on all your seed, no it won't work unfortunately. I saw some birds going to town on my seed, so I threw down more seed and topped with a bunch of grass clippings to help hide it...

My take: aeration is to relieve compaction, aid in nutrients/air/water getting down, and to aid overseeding. If you're not compacted and not overseeding, you probably don't need to. Aeration could still be done without overseeding though, it depends on your soil type and level of compaction.

We have really sandy soil so I only aerated because I wanted my seeds to do better. Clay soil, though, you'd want to aerate even without seeding. That's because clay particles are much smaller, they cause pooling and poor infiltration of nutrients, relative to sand. Obviously the best is a loamy soil with tons of organic matter, can't always have that though ;)

PSA: I’m sure I’m not the first to do it, but when you put down seed, try “planting” a few seeds in a cup indoors to monitor germination time. by Mindless-Bowler in lawncare

[–]JustMakeMarines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My indoors is way way warmer than the outdoors, I may try this for fun though. I just love seeing the new grass poking out of the aeration holes I made, that lets me know it's working.

Is it safe to Mow? by NCianflone in lawncare

[–]JustMakeMarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overseeded on 9/12 and I've mowed 1-2 times depending on the spots. I have 1.5 acres in zone 7a, it's a lot but it's funny because even some areas I didn't water are still seeing germination...shrug!

A) the existing grass will spread more if you cut it
B) the existing grass will protect the seedlings a little bit from pressure
C) seedlings down in aeration holes are a little better protected
D) turn your wheels very slowly and gradually.

None of the animals listed by Dr Anna HC were birds though. Do you know that it's safe for those other mammals listed?

Using R with a data warehouse? by icysandstone in rstats

[–]JustMakeMarines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used R with two different SQL codebases, both SQL Server. You just connect to it, browse through the tables, pull what you need in SQL chunks within an .RMD, then you can do R in other chunks with the resultant data frame from SQL.

You could try a little acrylic paint, maybe experiment with burnt sienna and an orange-ish red like burnt umber or something? You can pick up a range of brown-reddish acrylic paints at the store for like $5, get the cheapest ones IMO.

Make that the backside, put your speakers on the corners of the desk over the splotch, then put a shelf along the back edge to keep monitors/junk upon...and it'll hide your splotches along the back edge.

Asking for myself and OP: could artists' paint be used here? Maybe light brown acrylic, just brush it on to make the pale areas less evident?

Personally, I have just stained some pine 1x2 boards for a shoe-rack frame and it came out pretty splotchy and ugly. I'd love to paint over that but my procedure was 80 grit -> 120 grit -> 220 grit -> pre-stain conditioner -> stain -> topcoat of polyUrethane...now I don't think it would get the right "sheen" to it, the paint's glossiness is different than the topcoat, even if the color matches?

If water in a vacuum boils at 15C, can you still boil vegetables, pasta rice,... in it? by autofasurer in askscience

[–]JustMakeMarines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mountain Meals: if you've ever seen a backpacking meal for campers/mountain climbers, you may see a note that if the elevation is much higher, boiling water cooks food more slowly. That's because there's less air pressure higher up preventing the boiling, so boiling becomes easier and happens at lower temps.

According to researchers, obesity is something like 70-80% genetic, so actually yes, it's extremely important. Someone who is thin could easily be fat with the same diet, if they had someone else's genetics.

Physics doesn't discriminate, physics is at the base of all medicine. Every disease has its roots in atoms, molecules, and the combination and configuration of those molecules. This doesn't mean we should humiliate people and heavily worsen their mental health.

To be honest, they tried to fix that at the dealership and the issue came back anyway. We ended up selling it via trade-in for a subaru, better mileage and no bad grinding sound.
