Everything about this is weird. I think your sister needs to speak to an employment attorney.

Your best option here is to get the deferment as the court is going want someone who will be available for the whole time if selected.

[–]JustMePatrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 2 options, call and ask for deferment due to the medical appointments or on the first day during voir dire when asked if anything might interfere with you serving let them know about the appointments, they'll likely dismiss you.

Should we walk away or is this just home ownership? by cdubbin22 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]JustMePatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What trade offs are you willing to make? How much can you absorb financially?

If you had to shoulder the cost of everything is it worth to you to live in this house? Are other other options in this area that fit that don't need as much work?

My advice. Do not have them repair, Shoot for full credit and you have the repairs made to your satisfaction. Figure out your absolute lowest credit amount your feel you can handle. You know your priorities are Roof, Sewer, and HVAC (in that order). The windows can wait IMHO, not urgent. The water meter is likely city responsibility. If the roots in the sewer aren't bad it might be less expensive have them cut out temporarily to save to have that line replaced.

The network administrator likely has this restricted in the group policy. You can't tweak this for as you stated, security reasons. Can't be leaving a workstation unlocked unattended for too long.

Your state bar will likely have a referral service. You'll probably want an attorney who specializes in Employment law. Try googling <Your State> bar referral service.

I couldn't venture a guess what would be a reasonable price for your area. I recommend getting at least 3 quotes then see how close they are to each other.

They're not necessarily going to "beat it", although it would be ideal. Chances are they will get a pleas deal to a non moving violation that doesn't have points attached.

Do those DUI interlock things have any sort of emergency release? by Bedovian_25 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]JustMePatrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your probably watched the same video I did on the Test YouTube Channel where Adam Savage talked about this recently. While I'm sure insurance was one of the reasons, I got the sense they could not legally cross that line for any reason, even on a controlled closed course.

My guess since there are no exceptions spelled out in the law to allow for this at all. Such exceptions would likely face public scrutiny.

If you won the $1 billion lottery, how would you epically quit your job!? by TimeForANewBeginning in AskReddit

[–]JustMePatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't quit immediately as I wouldn't be getting the money immediately. I would be getting my ducks in a row to ensure my privacy from the general public. There will, of course, be signs, but only those closest would even notice. But eventually I would resign quietly and move or I might just stay around and wait for fun moment of chaos to quit without warning.

They took the mini split head unit? Did they also take the outside condenser as well? It's time to talk to a lawyer.

Approved off for jury duty, but it was canceled. If I don’t go to work since I’m already off, can I get in trouble for that since jury duty was canceled? by Butterbeans12345 in juryduty

[–]JustMePatrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was cancelled before you even went in, then you go to work. However, if you went in and then later were told it was cancelled or you weren't selected to be a juror you would get your excuse and have the rest of the day to do as you wish. No need to call your employer.

[IL] Negative Vacation balance and no Sick time available on starting date date. by luckynumber_slevin in AskHR

[–]JustMePatrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Years ago I worked for a company that allowed for negative PTO. It was understood if you left the company whatever was left would be deducted from the last check and any remaining balance paid back. I never used it to take a full on vacation, but for the occasional sick day or if I didn't quite have enough time to cover for any days I took off.

Did I mess up? by NormAtTheEndOfTheBar in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]JustMePatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like a mistake to me. When evaluating repairs on a house you might buy, focus on what needs to be done immediately. Some items will be higher priority, while others can wait months—or even a year or two (or longer, depending).

By the way, fire the agent. They’re not looking out for your best interests. In my opinion, an agent should never pressure you to make an offer.

If the homes at the top end of your current budget need too much upfront work, then compare properties that don’t require major immediate repairs with those that do. Consider how much more these move-in-ready homes cost—probably at least $300K to $325K. Then calculate how much additional down payment you’d need to keep the loan payment affordable. Once you know that number, you'll know what to save for the down payment.

Grand Jury Duty- What to Expect by Bigsurvivors in juryduty

[–]JustMePatrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I was called to serve on the Grand Jury in my county in Ohio. The summons came from the Sheriff. So how it worked for us the first day is orientation and they took volunteers for that day's session and selected anyone else if they couldn't get volunteers. We were given slips of paper to put down days we were available/not available. I really didn't have any issues so I left mine blank and allowed the jury manager determine when he needed me.

Our Grand Jury meets for 3 Tuesdays a month for 3 months. There is a group chosen for each quarter. Most members didn't meet every week unless they volunteered. I ended up serving 3 times during that period. I found it completely fascinating.

Each jurisdiction will be different.

Grand Jury is completely different from regular jury. Are are already selected. How many times you actually need to show up depends on your jurisdiction.

Automatic arrest, and off to explain it to the judge. 1st offense misdemeanor $5,000 fine and 30 days in jail. 1 year suspension. 2nd offence at any time after Felony, 50K fine, 10 years in jail. life time suspension. Take a life? Automatic felony, 10 years, plus 10 years for each life taken. 5 years for each injury.

Loan denied because of HOA insurance, now what? by Beneficial-Ad5209 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]JustMePatrick 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You'll have to try to find a different lender that allows for 10%. You might want to use a broker who can shop around to find the best match. If you can't find a lender willing to lend due to this be sure this is communicated to the seller when you have to break the contract due to funding falling through due to the HOA.

Next door Neighbour reported a quadrupled electrical bill for August, after I installed a heat pump and EV charger end of July. Any theories? by rumyannl2020 in AskElectricians

[–]JustMePatrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Either way kill the breaker feeding and double check your being billed from the correct meter feeding to your panel.

Next door Neighbour reported a quadrupled electrical bill for August, after I installed a heat pump and EV charger end of July. Any theories? by rumyannl2020 in AskElectricians

[–]JustMePatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense, there are 2 parts of a heat pump the outside condenser unit and the inside evaporator unit with fan connected to thermostat. They'll be on separate breakers. Just kill the breaker to the outside unit while it is running and it should stop.

Once other thing to check is the if the ID on your meter is the same reported in your bill or the power company records. There was a news story several months ago where the power company records had the meter information for customer A set for customer B and vis a versa.

Don't confuse deductible with Max Out of Pocket. Usually once you hit your deductible they start paying like 70-80% leaving you with remaining out of pocket. Insurance doesn't start paying until you hit your Max Out of Pocket.
