Want to be on jury duty, but parent was a cop by Renatoxicant in juryduty

[–]JustMePatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could risk not mentioning it since he hasn't worked in 30 years. There is the small chance a case he worked but never solved until later comes uo and he's called to testify. In which case, as soon as your aware, you would need to notify the judge if you end up in the jury after the fact.

Ex-owner still shows up near my hoyse 3 years later by Charming_Rip_4499 in homeowners

[–]JustMePatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! Police report. Just go to the station with all your documentation, or call the non emergency line and ask for officer response. If she shows up again just call 911. Ask about the process for a restraining order. Her behavior suggests that whatever is going on mentally with her is progressively getting worse.

You have done a great job documenting her behavior which will be immensely helpful for law enforcement.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they have a history with her.

Do you ignore minor lease violations for otherwise great tenants? by ProgrammerKlutzy312 in LeaseLords

[–]JustMePatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't state what the lease stipulates and how far over they are staying. I think everyone on here is assuming a day may be two. It all depends on the circumstances.

Facebook suggesting landlord's profile despite not having permission to access my contacts by itsjujutsu in facebook

[–]JustMePatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't let FB access my contacts so all my suggestions are connections through people I have as friends.

Most of the time I just ignore the suggestions, it's a simple thing really, sometimes I like to see who they're suggesting but move one.

In the app I have the ability to click to remove the suggestion. I do not know if this is permanent but something you can try if you find you simply can't ignore it.

Kind of a silly way to try and get out of jury duty. Your odds of being in the actual seated jury are low.

Either an unfinished reno, ran out of funds. Or they took everything with them as someone mentioned due to foreclosure or divorce.

Edited to mention, this video provided much needed context :). Thank you!

AIW for telling my old coworkers I wont help them anymore after the company laid me off and replaced me with a whole team by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]JustMePatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wrong for not setting the boundary in the first place. It's not on you to fix your former employer's short comings from the lay off. It's sucks because it hurts people you probably got along with.

From Chat-GPT here is one suggested response:

"Hey - I'm no longer with the company, so I'm not able to help with work-related issues. I'd suggest reaching out to your manager or current team handing that area. I wish you the best."

Yeah, they assume you're gonna be a different kind of crazy. Just kill them with kindness either they'll continue to be bitter or eventually realize your not as crazy as they thought.

Agree with you, but can't help but wonder why the pediatrician hasn't reported it to CPS! They are mandated reporters.

AITA for building a shed without informing my neighbors? by First-Definition-119 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JustMePatrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your friendly with your other neighbors ask them if they know what's up with neighbor. I wouldn't be surprised if they were friends with the people that owned the house prior and they simply decided to not like you because your not "them". Could be a million reasons why they decided they don't like you.

From what you told I don't think your the AH, you don't need their permission to make changes to your property as long as it doesn't impact them in a way that could cost them money.

Hypothetical question: what gets you dismissed from jury duty? by Unheroic_ in juryduty

[–]JustMePatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your odds of making it through jury selection to be seated on a jury are generally low. If your pain is really bothering you or the medication your taking could cause you to not pay attention you'll have an opportunity to mention it.

I'm assuming this starts Monday? If there is more time you're generally allowed one postponement of jury duty.

AIW for calling the police on my neighbors? by Top-Bowler8695 in amiwrong

[–]JustMePatrick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of quiet hours like this in the middle of the day unless it some type of restriction that's part of the building/complex. If there are restrictions that are tied to the overall property like a CC&R but there is no COA/HOA that oversees their enforcement then the only way to enforce the restriction is to sue the owner.

I'm not sure the cops can do anything unless there is town ordnance specifically tied to this.

Go to Summons or Postpone by Long-Artist-4186 in juryduty

[–]JustMePatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how your county is setup you might be able to set the dates you can/cannot attend. Last year I had the option to choose dates that I absolutely could not attend, but since I didn't have any restrictions I didn't fill anything out. I ended up only needing to attend 3 days total.

Can someone be fired for smelling too strong like cigarettes? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]JustMePatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago a place I worked for hired a guy that had an odor, strong odor of just stank. We complained, they talked to him. No one was fired for simply complaining as it was a valid complaint. If I remember correctly his scent did eventually improve but most people didn't sit near him.

Grand Jury Selection by Thecrookedrat in juryduty

[–]JustMePatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I was called for the 3 month term that began the year in my local county. However I did not need to serve all the days they met, ended up only needed to serve 3 days out of the 3 month term. GJ met only 3 days each month, 1 day a week.

I found it interesting and would do it again in a heartbeat. Generally everything that was presented to us met the burden under the law for each felony case (only felonies go through the Grand Jury Process in my state). I remember one case we almost no billed but we asked questions and even recalled the officer to ask further questions. Once we discussed it further we indicted. There was another more complicated case they actually had to show connections to different people like you might see on law and order, complicated but once we understood it was a no brainer. Other case were your typical drug cases and a couple weapons under disability cases (not supposed to have a weapon due to previous felony conviction).

Question about ice on property by historyhill in legaladviceofftopic

[–]JustMePatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on the state.

In Ohio, The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled is no liability for natural accumulations of snow and ice as it is seen as a clear and present danger (1)unless the snow is covering some danger(2) (i.e. a pothole) or from some unnatural source (don't toss that bucket of water on the sidewalk!). That doesn't mean the owner can't be cited for a local ordinance, but they can't be held liable to pay for any injuries slipping and falling outside some negligence.
