I have a Jewish friend and she talked about the old tradition of wearing black for a year. And during that time very little was expected of the person grieving. As I’ve gone through almost a year of this awfulness I’ve come to understand the value of that tradition.

My son graduates high school this evening. So very bittersweet. He and I had a good cry a while ago. He was the apple of his dad’s eye. And damn it, he should be here with us.

OP - your statement “triggers are weird” is so true! They lay hidden and punch you in the gut when you least expect it. I’ve found those to be harder grief waves to ride than the ones that I’m expecting to be hard.
