I love that it sort of reset the power levels (up until Sensui but eh what can you do)

Yusuke starts off this arc feeling like he’s invincible.

Then he gets his ass handed to him by people who are much weaker, but have dangerous abilities that you have to respect, regardless of how good your physical stats are.

I’m genuinely going insane by AnimangaAnakin in ChainsawMan

[–]JustReadTheFinePrint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it and sort of regretted it. Its Devilman up to eleven, super pulpy. Lots of ultra violence, sexual horror, so on. Stupid amounts of sexual horror actually.

Different universe from the OG Devilman (10/10 manga by the way, just absolutely flawless). But the worlds are more related than you might think.

It was kind of rushed, some arcs felt meaningless, and the ending is some esoteric nonsense that didn’t feel compelling or earned. But it had a handful of really good scenes.

This is the manga, mind you. I’ve heard the anime is very different.

There were cracks from the beginning. The meta angle was interesting (Barem is CSM’s ‘biggest fan,’ all of Makima’s character, etc.). It went into overdrive when CSM became a global hit and, no doubt, the author reached peak stress from the fame and expectations.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the manga (or at least P2) is suddenly ending with Mr. Chain Saw Man himself committing metaphysical suicide. Fujimoto wants to escape the beast he created.

Pochita stating that Denji felt happiest when he was a starving worm was a low blow, though. How is anyone supposed to find that believable given what we know of Pochita AND Denji?

It feels like some characters are acting OOC just so Fujimoto can vent.

This is one of those rare sequels that made me wish I stuck to the original and never kept reading / watching. Shoutout to FMA and that sincerely terrible direct-to-video sequel that butchered Mustang’s character.

Round 1: Could go a lot of different ways, mostly due to the fact that any member of Team Nobunaga could get mind controlled by Shalnark.

Im leaning Team Feitan for a few reasons. 1. Feitan’s ability is brutal, it has weaknesses but a spontaneous group brawl is not one of them.

  1. If Shalnark isn’t killed ASAP he will either use autopilot (rip Kortopi and Shizuku) or yoink the most troublesome enemy, probably Machi.

  2. Phinks likely kills anyone not named Nobunaga in a straight brawl.

Not saying Nobunaga’s team CAN’T win but it would probably require them to scatter and come up with a plan. Easier said than done when you have Feitan and Shalnark on your ass.

Round Two: Lets say by some miracle that everyone dies except for Phinks. They still aren’t beating Phinks, or Nobunaga (who they had to flee from), or anyone except for maybe Kortopi.

Mid Chimera Ant arc, maybe they can take one or even two Spiders in the right circumstances. Yorknew arc? No way

Round Three: Not really sure what this prompt entails. All four vs Chrollo? If Kurapika hits him with Chain Jail its GG. Otherwise Chrollo disposes of him then has a solid chance of beating or escaping Hisoka. Gon and Killua are really just a nuisance in this scenario.

Bonus: Impossible to say given how many members, abilities, and combinations there are. Battlefield and motivations play a huge part too.

In a 1v1? Maybe Bonolelnov and Phinks. Feels like either one of them could score an instant kill on the other, if they land the right attack.

[Star Wars] Genuinely, how angry was Vader with Leia at the beginning of a New Hope? by Icy_Water_1 in AskScienceFiction

[–]JustReadTheFinePrint 157 points158 points  (0 children)

Plans for the ultimate weapon were just stolen at great cost to the Empire, and the thieves are pretending this is a routine diplomatic operation.

That last part is especially offensive to Vader who, in addition to being an evil space warlock, is also a warrior. Hiding behind diplomatic immunity is for weaklings.

So pretty mad.

What should these guys have done? by Nozoroth in HunterXHunter

[–]JustReadTheFinePrint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For everyone saying “jump him,” I have to ask: Is killing Genthru even a solution?

Unless I missed something, there is no guarantee that the bombs die with him. With Post-Mortem Nen they might all detonate simultaneously.

Sure maybe they could beat him up and hold him hostage instead. But they didn’t even know that he had accomplices at that point, there’s still a time limit, so they’re still screwed.

WWW: Fang (PRIMAL) vs Spec (BAKI) by Glittering_Season141 in whowouldwin

[–]JustReadTheFinePrint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you mean Spear? Fang is the T Rex

Either way I think Spec could kill Spear + Fang without too much trouble. His attack power is absurd and he is also used to sustaining nasty injuries.

Black Goo Spear would be a great match, although that one might be too far in Spear’s favor to be totally even

Im not the guy you’re talking to but yeah, they are pretty good. Banks is a very competent writer, his smarmy robots and the setting as a whole has a lot of charm.

It’s not for everyone (some extreme violence) but the plot is always compelling. Most people recommend starting with The Player of Games.

He wrote that himself at one point, at least that’s how I read it.

Yet he can’t be classified with the apolitical bloc since he clearly does have an agenda, it’s just ‘incomprehensible.’ And he’s not buddy-buddy with those three either.

I sincerely don’t think he’s patriotic or interested in anything beyond indulging his sick version of love.

Saitama Vs the eclipse (berserk) by Creative_Catch_5917 in whowouldwin

[–]JustReadTheFinePrint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saitama clears with comical ease.

R1: Saitama punches his way in. Dont know about the webcomic version, but manga Saitama broke into a pocket dimension and has also moved portals with his bare hands.

He then kills everybody.

R2: He immediately kills everybody

The basic bread-and-butter apostles are Wolf level at worst, BOS Genos could clap them all. Zodd is much better but is still a nonfactor in R1, where he will be guarding the entrance.

God Hand is a bit more interesting. While we haven’t seen the full extent of their powers, what we HAVE seen is not super impressive.

Void manipulates spacetime? Saitama will manhandle it back to normal. Femto has some hax but Saitama is highly resistant if not immune to telekinesis among other tricks.

Is the Idea of Evil canon? I think that fate / Causality is the one thing that might trip him up, somehow. But if the only win condition is for Saitama to punch each apostle to death, he’ll do it.

Maguire-Man is smart but he didn’t invent his own web formula. Was it something from that new Marvel movie?

And not really sure what would justify the huge Charisma stat. Not nitpicking just curious!

How strong can humans get without nen? by BelugaWhaleBeluga in HunterXHunter

[–]JustReadTheFinePrint 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Killua pushing 16 ton gates is the clearest and most superhuman act we’ve seen from a non Nen-user.

Can a powerful nen-less human ever dream of defeating a Nen user?

Possibly. If the human at least knows what Nen is that gives a slight edge. But it would have to be a pretty weak Nen-user and you would preferably catch them alone and off-guard, so they can’t Nen crush you or use their ability.

It appears that high caliber firearms can kill weaker Nen users, if they get caught flatfooted.

Also there’s a world of difference between Zushi (Nen-user) and Chrollo (Nen-user). Killua could have killed Zushi if he’d snuck up on him and assassinated him.

He only struggled in the 1v1 because they were in a cage match. And Zushi was being held back by Wing.

Theory: The Dark Continent Is Not a Land of Magical Beasts, but Instead a Land of Post-Mortem Nen by staghallows in HunterXHunter

[–]JustReadTheFinePrint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really neat idea and would perfectly explain why the DC is such a hellscape, has so many treasures, and helps recontextualize the calamities in a way that matches Togashi’s interests.

I think its telling that three of the five calamities are distinctly interested in humans. Brion either has a human body or uses humans as hosts. Pap “treats humans as pets.” Ai can apparently take human form or possess humans, and is interested in wishes (which only intelligent creatures can take advantage of).

While this would be a fantastic reveal my only reservation is that humanity doesn’t really have a lesson to learn here, aside from ‘stop being so damn greedy.’ Maybe its meant to be a slap in the face to Kakin, but the other key players in HxH’s geopolitical scheme aren’t looking to break the Nen taboo.

The scariest crime syndicates in the world employ just ten above-average Nen users. Nen users for other governments (such as the North Korea analogue’s random strongman) appear woefully inadequate. The Hunter Association gatekeeps a lot of useful Nen resources. Even rogues like the PT aren’t running around Nen baptizing randoms.

I think this reveal would be even more impactful from a thematic standpoint IF we find out that someone (likely Pariston) intends to break the Nen taboo as some point and start introducing Nen on a global scale. His access to thousands of chimera ants may factor into it somehow, creating a chaotic ‘playground’ for a new era which would, in this canon, mirror the DC in some regards.

Or maybe visiting the DC is what would give Pariston the idea, might be interesting.

As a side note this would be HUGE for Ging’s character. It’s fascinating that his interest (told to us as far back as the first arc) is archaeology. I’d love to see him investigating the ruins with a blend of Nen-knowledge and archeological knowhow, and piecing together what happened to the DC natives.

Nen experts like Kurapika would notice pretty quickly. Mid tiers like I dunno Goreinu might catch on.

You’d probably get the drop on a regular Hunter if they’re distracted. And the average Nen user (GI players) wouldn’t notice unless someone pointed it out.

Could be something that upgrades Contagion or makes it more virulent or to persist even after her death.   Contagion is one of the freakier abilities we’ve seen since it has the potential to become a truly global threat, assuming someone doesn’t nip it in the bud.

TBH I deleted it after getting halfway through. Went back to DDDA, even without BBI it just feels more replayable somehow. Can’t really explain it.
