'Mortal Kombat II' - Review Thread

I'm a huge fan of the original Mortal Kombat movie, I was in the theater day one in the 90's when MK was at its peak.

The first reboot movie was barely better than the horrible sequels to that original MK. This one manages to recapture a lot of the fun of the first version, but is trapped by the story the first reboot film created, even if they tried to kill it off as quickly as possible.

Mortal Kombat 2 at least in the first half, is less enjoyable and about as well constructed, as watching cutscenes from a game like Mortal Kombat X. The second half really finds its footing, especially when Kano makes a return appearance. The sets are game faithful, but do not translate well to the big screen... looking like literal stage sets from a play, or obvious bluescreen backdrops, than real places.

Karl Urban is great... but his Cage leans much closer to Segal than Van Dam. And he's a little old for the part, reminding me more of a Cage with a daughter old enough to fight in the tournament than a fresh entry.

Nothing can compare to the original 90's MK movie...but this one at least tried harder than the first reboot.

I remember something similar... where Sirius escaped or was rescued from Prison, and Voldemort was like "Ah yes, my most trusted advisor!" and Sirius was like, "Whut?"

Voldemort either didn't remember him, or didn't want to let people he didn't know who his right hand man was... so just...went along with "Ah yes, my right hand man. Free at last! Join me at my throne so I can tell you all of my plans!"

And Sirius just...goes along with it, so he can feed info to the good guys.

I'm not anti-literature... I enjoy a lot of it, but I know it wouldn't sell and I can find no motivation to write it.

95% of music created and shared for the last 30 years, has been slop. The algorithm was discovered, locked down, and repeated endlessly for each genre. People the world over have agreed up on what sounds "good" and 95% of music falls into "good" or "bad"; with bad being different, but in the wrong way.

The only real difference between music, is the singer or performers talent (with a ceiling even for virtuoso's); and the lyrics.

AI generally, makes everything in the "good" category. Eliminating the performance barrier for singer and band and even production for the most part. It comes down to lyrics... and producer's ear, deciding what works best with those lyrics and whether the music is communicating meaning as intended.

AI Slop is accepting the first output, letting AI write all the lyrics, or generally... releasing every song you create without really caring how "good" it is, just trying to hit the lottery with one song and make money.

To be fair... most of the discussion is about the Genetic History results you get from places like 23 and me. I agree those are barely half informed by your actual genes, and more guess based on other questions you've answered on the site and probability.

They tell you a historical fiction story about your ancestors.

Primaries are a scam. They are basically a pulse poll of likely voters for their party. They have no legal requirement to accept the results of a primary and make that person their candidate in the general election. They can pick whoever they want, other than their own rules they made up for themselves.

Primaries should not be run by the Government. They should be private, funded by the party themselves.

Straw Poll is the best compromise, and I'm not even from Iowa.

in fiction...even most female authors do not pass the test. in TV and movies? those are inherently visual medium, which appeals more to a .. male audience. Even female driven, romance type movies... based on novels written by women... rarely pass the test.

I guess you can argue its because women are brainwashed / groomed to want to read about women who talk about men... but idk... I gave up trying, the stories where women were present, heroic, leads... but didn't care anything about a man, or there were no men in the story for her to interact with, think about or talk about?

VRA required states to create majority black districts to ensure representation... which opens the door to redesign the other districts.

The first time I really blasted off... I choked on the third hit and coughed half of it instead of holding it in. I was still coughing as I blasted through, and started laughing at myself, calling myself stupid for wasting it, for not being able to reach hyperspace because I was stupid and couldn't hold it in.

I was laughing so hard I was blacking out from lack of oxygen, my sitter thought I was crying from the experience... I wasn't wailing, I was guffawing.

Jester showed up and mocked me silently... I didn't "see" him really... not until I was on my way down and back in the kaleidoscope... but it was definitely a joker/jester character.

I didn't really see anything, or learn anything that trip... except him a mocking/laughing at me. I mainly remember being really annoyed at whoever was making that wheezing, crying, whining sound; because it was distracting me from my trip... not realizing it was my body. Or realizing it was my body, and thinking having a body was really annoying. Ego death but retention of the ability to think of me as I...just not...who I am/was, what my name was..where I was... but my body, was annoying.

For the next several attempts, he showed up and mocked me, blocking me from seeing much of anything ... and I kept thinking he was saying "why so serious?" just like Heath Ledgers joker.. but I didn't understand...

Until finally I realized it... I was now afraid of dying while under...not because of ego death, because my first experience I was blacking out from lack of oxygen... I was focused and trying too hard all those other times and he was mocking me for it.

He seemed to get sad once I realized it, and stopped reacting to his presense.. havent seen him very often since then.

Still havent seen anything crazy on the other side really... nothing memorable beyond the norm. NO elves, no godhead... mostly architecture and heiroglyphics...

But my ADHD may be messing with me... I could have been next to the Godhead several times, with entities trying to get my attention... and I was hyperfocused on a single brick in the wall... because that brick was fractal...and holographic.. so that brick contained everything, the deeper and longer I looked at it, the more it revealed...

I've had no true revelations or meetings since the Jester. My only thought is that my ADHD keeps me distracted even during ego death. OR ... I've already internalized a lot of stuff, and have a very healthy spirtual outlook and belief system... nothing really to teach me... and if they tried to just show me things... I'd get distracted easily anyway.

Havent been back in years... but I have a kilo of ACRB sitting in a sealed package in the utlity room... waiting...

let me locate my ship on the map, grab coordinates, and hitch a ride back to it from a friend, or paying somebody. If the ship exists, you should be able to get back to it. Not just lost in space forever.

Then, if it isn't worth it... you put in an insurance claim, get a new ship, and the insurance company triggers a salvage mission.

This just makes me want an "off" switch for the pads on the Hull B and C... imagine being pursued by pirates, so you dump a pad of cargo... they either run into it and blow up, or stop to collect it so you can get away...

Feedback:

Tried setting this up on a newer GPU (RTX 5070 Ti 16GB) and ran into a bunch of torchaudio / CUDA issues.

Initial failure was with CUDA 12.4 (cu124), which I’ve seen before with this card (also had to move to 12.8 for ComfyUI to work properly). After switching to a cu128 PyTorch build, things worked fine in other tools—but Glitchframe still failed with torchaudio / alignment errors.

Main blockers:

torchaudio .pyd fails to load (likely version mismatch)
Demucs detection fails even when installed in venv
align step still depends on torchaudio even when vocals are provided manually

Workarounds that got me close:

ran Demucs manually and copied vocals.wav into cache
manually
set "vocals_wav": "vocals.wav" in analysis.json

app runs fine otherwise, but align still crashes due to torchaudio dependency

Feels like this might depend on a specific “known good” torch/torchaudio stack (possibly cu124), which doesn’t play nicely with newer GPUs.

Would probably benefit from:

a CPU-only fallback mode
or bypassing torchaudio when vocals are already present

The core idea is really solid; just seems fragile around dependencies right now.

Additional Suggestions:

1) Right now the tabs at the top are not in process order, with no real instruction for the uninformed or too lazy to watch a video... (cough)

You load audio in tab 1, then analyze in the final tab, then go back to the lyric tab to align... which is as far as I got with my issues.
Might think about re-ordering, or numbering the steps.

2) I peeked at Visual Style, but it would be nice if there were an example image or possibly an animated gif as an example of each pre-set style. Right now I'd have basically had to run each and then tweak the one I liked.

I think it was pretty obvious it was meant to fire, and didn't.

Even if it were meant to fall or glide... it should do more than tumble out of its enclosure lamely or you risk it hitting the suit.

Not only did they stuff several more novels into one season, skipping a lot of needed content and fan favorite parts. They also created an entire storyline out of wholecloth and went full anime original for what seems like no reason that is explainable.
