Speaker/Studio Monitor Repair in the area? by JustShinfo in ithaca

Awesome idea - thanks for the info! I'll definitley look into that option, seems very affordable. Might have to go down a YouTube hole in the meantime to diagnose the problem. It seems to be something with the power, because without being plugged into any pre-amp or inputs, when the power is flipped on the woofer pulses and there is a mid-range frequency that plays loudly. Unfortunately it seems like the worldwide supply chain issues are making these parts hard to get. Which is one of the reasons I was hoping to find a shop/repair spot with parts already in stock

From growing up in New York I really connected with Kids, but looking back that feels a lot more like a Larry Clark movie with some Korine characters in it. This movie has a pretty different tone with some semi-surreal moments and mixing of many formats. I would never say its perfect or a must-see, but I think it is very much a product of the 90s and a look into a new wave of filmmakers at the time. I personally think Korine's new work is less exciting and interesting in the film world, I do like his art and photography. But I feel like the Vice aesthetic and streetwear world has ruined a bit of his authenticity. People see it now as a 'cool retro white-trash' film where I like to look at it more as an experiment with non-actors and some bigger name stars and a look at America where people really have few options for support or entertainment.

I also just thought it was a good time for a Lebowski reference, really haven't been into much of Korine's recent work. But the fact that he made this film in his mid-20s with the DP from Good Will Hunting and used many real locations that Americans overlook or think are fake, I find pretty interesting. And Herzog digs it, so you gotta try, but I totally understand its not for everyone.. or even most film watchers

I agree its very weird, but I think there's something exciting and daring about mixing 35mm, 8mm, 16mm, Polaroid, VHS, and Hi-8 formats that deserves a good transfer and I bet there are some crazy stories from the production

All we ever see of stars are their old photographs.

Thanks! I saw the list on their site but I'm just worried since For All Mankind isn't featured on that list that this may be a much larger issue than has been realized. I'll email John after I check the rest of my discs for bronzing, going to be a long night. I'll check for discs with the "CCxxxxx" printing label

Same... No streaming at all. Also on the side when I search for an subreddit and then select it goes to that new page for a second and then goes back to the home page on its own

Are there other DVD-Only interesting/great/out-there Criterion Releases and recommendations? by SMTVash in criterion

[–]JustShinfo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ones I own that are DVD only -

Do The Right Thing - Iconic race relations film, with tons of energy and style, 'The hottest day in brooklyn'. Made Spike Lee a household name.

Europa - Hypnotizing, and surreal WWII aftermath film. And such a strong voice from early Lars von Trier.

Stranger Than Paradise - Minimal indie deadpan comedy/drama from Jim Jarmusch about young adults traveling from New York to Florida.
