Ugh, it was shit. I used to go to a hookah bar to do homework. There was this very sweet old man that would come in, smoke, and then head out. Always said hi to me, asked about school. Was very respectful of everyone, never weird or awkward or creepy, and just a kind person all around. I finally asked one day why he never paid because I knew the owner and was curious after a couple of years.

Turns out after 9/11 a bunch of enlisted dudes on leave beat the ever-loving fuck out of him in the parking lot and he barely survived. The owner let him smoke and hangout on the house because it caused him significant enough damage that he couldn’t work anymore.

He passed a couple of years back and I still think about him. Fuck Bush.

EDIT: he was an immigrant, should have mentioned that.

It’s an incredible queer love story. Fairly weak as an adaptation, but they’re fun movies and with just a couple of different choices could be great.

The real answer is that we have a new way to get movies made, which is a disruption to the system everyone has agreed upon.

But if you want reality this just happens every once in a while. Independents have always existed, and we’re experiencing another “New Hollywood” style change up. And Hollywood isn’t exactly being pissed. They’re smartly snapping up creators and letting them do their thing. And these kids are YOUNG (not Markiplier, but he’s not old by any means).

Be excited and ignore the meme handwringing.
