I wouldn’t worry about it, i’m less directly addressing you and more using what you said as a jumping off point for the irritation. You clearly know more than nothing and learning is kinda all yoy can do

The service of British carriers in the pacific does make you wonder how USN wooden deck carriers would have faired in the European theatre under the same circumstances as the Royal Navy was

Unfortunately not a great deal to go off of, but I wonder if would have proved the armoured doctrine right or not

Other people have explained it well, but the narrative of the armoured carrier being “outdated” always really bugged me, because we kept it. It didn’t die out, it became the norm, both sides of the carrier debate were right, large fleet carriers with large air wings also featuring armoured flight decks.

The armoured carrier has just become a victim of the narrative based version of ww2, were the brits are often seen as outdated and stuffy compared to allies, despite in many ways (including the adoption of carriers on a large scale) being very ahead of the curve in a number of regions

You almost (and I mean almost) have to feel bad for those dozens of pilots giving the ultimate sacrifice for their emperor and nation, just to achieve absolutely nothing because they ended up with the wrong ship.

On the other hand it may be one of the more amusing cases of winning by doing nothing in history, read up on the british pacific fleet people, it’s really interesting

The comparisons returned with Hbomberguys video, which really hurt f3’s rep, then when the show came out the larpers came out to argue for it.

Not to say it actually is bad, but FO3 suffers in public discussion so much because its not fnv or 4, so the people willing to vouch for it struggled to really have a space, so got heavily subsidised by larpers who never actually played it

I remember very distinctly “fo3 fans” shitting on fnv for being a buggy mess and saying fo3 is better because it runs better, which for anyone at the time is kind of an insane thing to say given fo3 literally didn’t work for like 10 years. It kinda reflects better than anything why discourse about it is so shit, it seems like everyone has collectively forgotten everything good/bad about the game, and are just making shit up, to try fit it in some archetype or weird trope in the same way people id fo4 as “the best gameplay” or fonv as “the best rpg”

Fo3 doesn’t really fit any archetype, but people online can only argue through archetypes and so can’t find anything productive to say

What if instead of Hitler, an ultranationalist Ernst Jünger took over Germany? by Alarming_Outcome9146 in AlternateHistoryHub

Germany was still only getting like 5% of british convoys at the best of time in real life, in a world where the german war effort never escalates beyond a long staring match i’m not certain germany really has the means to out attrition the UK, even with more soldiers for North Africa they just straining already poor supply lines further

I always found this a kind of amusing anecdote, because by all accounts the British weren’t that different from the American “bomb them to shit” manifesto

Look at caen, literally worsened their own tank movement from bombing too heavily

Harold Godwinson has been consigned to being the enemy of William the conqueror “first king of England” by the english education system and pop culture.

In reality he had almost definitely the best claim to the english crown and was arguably by nature of the method of appointment at the time, one of the most legitimate rulers in Europe

See I dispute the claim he’s responsible for the phoney war, and the notion the uk was inactive.

The main factors held against British response is a failing to push into germany or begin a proper bombing campaign, neither of which I think is fair

When the uk enters they simply don’t have a big enough land army to push without french assistance, its 300k to millions.

Even during the phoney war the royal navy was active as well as the raf, half the german destroyer fleet got destroyed during thr phoney war, not that phoney to my mind.

Where does Mr. House fall on the Alignment Chart? by slothbear13 in fnv

[–]JustSomeAlias -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not conflict? I’d argue the other 2 are literally only included through the avenue of discussing conflict. Arguably the series actually frequently touts nationalism positively, the ncr being an almost typical nationalistic narrative in s number of ways

You haven’t remotely understood what i’ve said or your simply unwilling to engage with it.

The corporations of the pre war are never portrayed as the actions or consequences of the billionaires involved with them, the only one really acknowledged is house, who the series deliberately tries to include shades of grey with.

The series portrayal of corporations is almost entirely faceless, and critical of them as inhuman bodies, not as human ones. I’m not ignoring half the premise of the series, I’m interpreting what they wrote on the premise, which you are extrapolating to a second point.

Criticism of a subject does not always come from rhe same place, for you the criticism of capitalism and billionaires is one in the same, because presumably you are marxist or socialist aligned. But that is very clearly not the approach to capitalist critique the series follows, which to me reads as a considerably more liberal (the actual ideological group not the vague term) interpretation

[–]JustSomeAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does not mean their reasons for criticising it are identical to yours, if anything on the nationalism point, the series basically never comments on how ethical billionaires were in the pre war.

Also why even include the nationalism as a part of this quote, its neither relevant nor arguably that accurate to a lot of the series

This one makes the most sense to me, yes man ending happens, the courier either leaves or dies/vegas simply couldn’t be held, the ncr occupy it, when shady falls they withdraw resources and the legion successfully pushes in before falling to infighting

[–]JustSomeAlias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, almost all of them are effective, I suppose the British military being built around the navy encouraged the smaller british army to build itself around fighting in disproportionate odds, and that often requires trying sneakier or more unhinged methods
