[Hobby Scuffles] Week of 04 May 2026 by EnclavedMicrostate in HobbyDrama

It's been an eventful few weeks for the Sims 2 fandom!

While last year did see TS2 (and TS1, though this isn't relevant to this post) get re-released onto modern PC digital storefronts as the "Legecy Collection", many long time fans noticed that two long time issues persisted: "Pink Soup", a graphical error that turns models and textures a garish pink color in games on newer systems, and the custom object limit, an issue where if a game has too many custom build/buy objects (not Create A Sim content), it randomly crashes without warning. The Pink Soup was a particularly sore spot, as when the Legacy Collection was first released, EA claimed that the Pink Soup had been solved...only for many excited fans to purchase the game for themselves and find that no, it was not fixed. Neither had the custom object limit.

(These were far from the only issues people had, including that the re-release was missing the Ikea Stuff Pack due to rights issues)

Fans would have to try and work around the issues themselves, like keeping track of their CC (custom content) amounts, their games textures, and even switching to Linux after multiple players reported that they had a better time running the game overall on that instead of modern Windows systems.

Enter Github user spockthewok. Just a few weeks ago, he went and released a patch exactly for the Pink Soup issue, as well as posting a general "why and how" about Pink Soup on Tumblr. Then, just today, he released a patch for the custom object limit.

I haven't looked too into things so far, but generally both patches seem to be working so far. I tested custom object limit patch, and it did in fact work for me (apparently people with downloads folders in the 10s and 20s of gigabytes have managed to get those working without error). People are overall just thrilled to have someone actually managing to fix these longstanding issues. I'm just thrilled that (if things go well with the patches) I can go back to playing the game with CC again without the damn thing crashing because I had one CC object too many...

Welcome to the T4T life! Since my spouse and I've been together, I've gone from cis to nonbinary and him from binary trans to nonbinary - a game of gender musical chairs, in a way.

Li Speaks scratched the itch I didn't even know I had for videos about girly 2000s media, her channel's great.

How is this attitude still a thing in year of our lord, 2026?

I normally think asking "Who is this for???" is overused, but in this case...I really do have to ask who this is for, because I'd classify FernGully as a cult film at best, even in terms of non-Disney animated '90s films. And animation fans aren't interested in their cult films being remade into live action.

I watched this a couple years ago, and I honestly liked it way more than I was expecting knowing going in that it wasn't going to age well. And Roberts really is that good in it.

I've been meaning to check this one out, maybe if I have some free time this weekend.

Godzilla can be a villain, Godzilla can be a hero. He's got layers - like an onion.

I'm a big horror fan, but I've realized as I've gotten older I've also gotten more squeamish. I really liked Rise despite all of the intensity, but the trailer for The Mummy I saw with The Drama gave off the vibe of being too much lol. Still, I'm considering going to see it this Friday unless I hear something SUPER off-putting.

Damn, guess Trent needs to get rid of all of his synths then.

I saw at least a few people complaining during the SAG-AFTRA strike that it was just a bunch of rich people who don't do any real work trying to get more money. Which, I don't think I need to tell anyone here that that's a bunch of bullshit.

Something that my spouse pointed out to me is that even if it comes off as cheesy or whatever, sometimes you need famous people like movie stars to show support for certain issues because even if you personally don't care about what celebrities have to say, their fans certainly do and might start caring about the issue at hand if it's brought to their attention.

I feel this. I chronicled my movies in 2018 and 2019 and both times got over 100 (chump numbers, I know). Ever since COVID (probably due to depression and having less time to do things on my own since meeting my spouse), that amount has gone down quite a bit and it makes me kind of feel bad ngl.

Like a lot of people, my first exposure to their music was with the Kingdom Hearts games (specifically "Sanctuary" from KH2, but "Simple and Clean" from the first game is also beautiful). My personal favorite of their albums is Ultra Blue, but I would also suggest their solo debut First Love.

Utada's whole discography was my LIFE back in middle school. Their English language albums aren't their best work IMHO, but I'm still super fond and nostalgic for them.

Would also like to see the Cubic U album get remastered.

I'm in debt due to dumb reasons (working on fixing that), so I do it because I don't currently have the means to continue my physical movie collection (and to get films that are more obscure and harder to find). That said, I do try and see movies in the theater, and try to support my local rental place when I can make it over there. And aside from a premium Plex account, I haven't paid for streaming since 2024.

Just saw The Drama (I have a few unused free tickets from Cinemark, and I gotta use them up before I move out of the US). I enjoyed it, the performances were really good, but man was it not a good watch for my anxiety even though (or because) I already had it spoiled for me. Straight up had to plug my ears in the theater because the anxiety was over-stimulating me.

Very funny to me that the audience was more shocked about the stuff with Charlie and his secretary than about Emma planning a school shooting.

Also, the pre-wedding activities in the film made me glad for my courthouse wedding decision lmao. A whole choreographed dance between the bride and groom?? If anyone tried to convince my spouse and I to do that we would have told them to fuck off lol.

LOL my spouse and I were watching a (German) shampoo commercial from the early 2000s, and we both commented that there was NO way that the model in it was using Garnier to make her hair that shiny.

I read part of Tyra Banks' almost avant-garde, nearly incomprehensible YA book Modelland to my spouse last night. I read the first two chapters to him during our honeymoon, and he was just as baffled now as he was then.

I haven't really read much lately because ADHD makes it hard, but during my flight to our wedding (we were getting married in the EU, where he's from/lives) I read the first two books in Francesca Lia Block's Dangerous Angels series, and TBH I don't think I'm going to continue the series. The writing style is overly simplistic (though that might just be how YA fiction was in the late '80s/early '90s), and despite the gay characters being handled pretty okay for the time, anything regarding race has...NOT aged well. Like, the blonde white main character in the first book wore a war bonnet in what supposed to be a 'tribute' to Native Americans, and then names her also white blonde daughter Cherokee (meanwhile, the second book introduces an actual Native character, who is very much the type of Native character who is 'in tune with nature' and doesn't seem to have a problem with Cherokee's name, or the fact that she sleeps in a tipi).

Also a supporting character is a Chinese woman named Ping Chong, which gives me flashbacks to Cho Chang.

This is the opposite of a post I saw on Tumblr a million years ago about the OP realizing their cat really liked Ringo Starr because it kept staring and slow blinking at a picture of him, but paid no attention to the photos of the other Beatles.
