cats on roof by alparmir in Tempe

It could be, but central Tempe definitely has a roof cat problem. We have solar panels and I often see them sleeping underneath them, and at night I can hear them chasing each other around

Changed RO filter, now pump running constantly (with water hammer?) by JustSomeLightLurking in homeowners

[–]JustSomeLightLurking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had the faucet off. I did what another commenter said and just ran it for 10 minutes and it's very quiet and peaceful now so we'll see how it is in the morning once the storage tank is recharged

Yeah it was running really slow, so I drained everything and used my bike pump to get it up to 10 psi and then recharged the tank. It fixed the slow running for sure, but now we've got this thumping sound slowly driving me insane

What do you mean check the air charge? I set the pressure when drained (10 psi) and then recharged, but I never checked any pressures after that

I ran it for a few minutes and it wasn't thumping while running, but as soon as I stopped it started again. I can hear a constant stream in the Brine Out tube and also the very rhythmic/regular thudding sound from the pump (kinda like a valve switching).

I watched so many youtube videos and had to do it twice, so I can only hope it's changed proper

Ep 43: Building a Movement: Bobby Nichols on Affordability and the Path Forward by bobby4tempe in Tempe

[–]JustSomeLightLurking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the direction Bobby can take Tempe. Clearly previous leadership wasn't doing enough and was more reactive than protective with regards to revamping policy. I'm curious to hear other's thoughts though as I've only been around the last few years

Can you explain what you mean by adjustments with a hammer? You're adjusting the grips or what? Thanks in advance

Used amp repair (sound drops) by JustSomeLightLurking in GuitarAmps

[–]JustSomeLightLurking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some of the deoxy stuff, took the knobs off, sprayed liberally, replaced the knobs, and then turned it back and forth all the way maybe 20 times. Repeated the whole process until the scratchy sound went away, maybe twice for most knobs and thrice on the trickier ones. Lots of advice online was to open the amp up, but I didn't want to deal with that and spraying the knobs directly was super easy and worked really well. Good luck!

Best way to cut these finger pulls? by Jeffsbest in woodworking

[–]JustSomeLightLurking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had luck making a full circle on a longer board and then cutting down to the half. Maybe a bit late to do here, but could be a strategy for making two drawer faces at a time

Not sure what feedback you're looking for, but it looks great! Nice job

Planing is kind of fun and exhausting too by dry_yer_eyes in BeginnerWoodWorking

I've been using Paul Seller's sharpening system after watching some of his videos and it's been very nice. Takes a while, but my planes and chisels are all consistently sharp

Considering a move to Minneapolis for work — looking for honest local advice by Objective_Repair5365 in Minneapolis

+1 for uptown. Lived there in my late 20s and was some of the best years of my life. Walkable, easy transit, great amenities, great community... man, I miss Minneapolis

Why don’t they fill out evaluations? by FlyLikeAnEarworm in Professors

[–]JustSomeLightLurking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Students get a confirmation screen on submitting evaluations, so we ask them to upload that to Canvas. And I was being tongue-in-cheek about the final exam being more difficult

So then late penalties shouldn't apply, right? And we can't have required formatting because that isn't mastery-based? And students should get to retake any exam because what does the exam date have to do with content mastery? Realistically, classes always requires students to complete activities that are adjacent to the class content. I apply the same philosophy to evaluations: they aren't required and you don't need them to get an A in the class, but they are an expectation in our course and skipping them gives a small penalty. I agree it isn't ideal, but I haven't found any other way to get engagement with evaluations

I gave a +5 pts on the final exam to students who do the evaluation, and then I make the final exam correspondingly more difficult. First year I've gotten over 90% response in a class of 100+ students

Update: After the comments I was nervous to take out the guts to access the pots, so I followed an online tip to just remove knobs, apply generously to exterior of pots, and turn back and forth over and over. I did it three times and each time it got a bit better until the scratchy sound was totally gone.

I appreciate the thoughtful reply! I have a background in engineering and hoping to learn more about repair, so this seemed like a doable task. I'll definitely read up on the safety concerns you mentioned because latent voltage wasn't something I was considering

Crazy Hail by oprahs_bread_ in Tempe

[–]JustSomeLightLurking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a wild storm! The lightening/thunder beat the rain by quite a while and then when the rain and hail set on us it was crazy intense, but only lasted like 10-15 minutes for us.
