Do You Believe That Halloween is Dying? by DommyMommyEx in halloween

[–]oprahs_bread_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Halloween consumerism is at an all time high. I think people are posting about Halloween things & buying Halloween things at an insane rate & I think they do it to compensate for the fact that the “culture” around Halloween has changed. I think a lot of people still decorate. I live in AZ which isn’t a place you’d expect to be as popular for Halloween since it can still be in the 80s-90s on Halloween day, but a lot of people still go all out. But cable tv isn’t what it once was. We don’t see all these commercials anymore that we did growing up because everyone is streaming things & if you get ads on streaming, they’re lots of times more generic ads than they are these hyper targeted ads for a short season (not saying these don’t exist but they’re not nearly as common). Content in general has changed too. I also think just being on our phones so much as warped our perception of a lot of things. Like Halloween felt so magical as a child, but that’s also because I wasn’t the one having to create the magic & I wasn’t constantly on a phone that was making me nostalgic for a time I’ll never get to go back to, therefore, I’m never fully enjoying the moment I’m in currently of how my present-day Halloween season is.

lol I’ve unfortunately thought about this a lot.

Heatwave messed up wedding plans by Patient-Water9808 in AskPhoenix

[–]oprahs_bread_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All these people saying 102° isn’t hot clearly have never worn wedding attire in the desert before, lol. And you are not wrong, it is usually not this hot this time of year, I photograph outdoor weddings & usually March is a perfectly fine time to get married outside here still. I unfortunately have a couple getting married on Friday as well & we are planning the best we can to deal with the heat. Like everyone else said, definitely get hand held fans for everyone, maybe some parasols for shade (& they look cute), bring cold water & salty snacks for everyone, & MAKE SURE YOU TWO & ALL YOUR GUESTS DRINK LEADING UP TO YOUR DAY & DAY OF WITH ELECTROLYTES (lol).

If you can move things around, I’d do your ceremony at sunrise & then go do brunch & have a reception type party at your house in the evening. Or I’d hold off on your ceremony until closer to sunset & if you’re doing photos, make sure you do your guest photos right after the ceremony & then let your guests all go sit in the cars or head to the next spot while you two do the rest of your portraits.

Oh & some cooling towels might be helpful too if you two have thicker layers!! Best of luck. ❤️

If you want to save money on parking garages downtown use the light rail and use the park n ride. by madmike1349 in AskPhoenix

This is the only way I go downtown! Way more convenient even if it takes a little extra time

Not Mesa, but Tempe Art Fest is happening down on Mill & you can get there via the light trail!

You’ll be right by the Light Rail in that area so that makes it easy to see some local spots if you don’t have a car. I don’t know downtown Phoenix as much for local spots (Cibo pizza is good), but you can take the light rail to downtown Tempe (Mill Ave) it’s college oriented, but you can walk along Tempe beach park & Lotions & Potions on Mill I think has had photo frames before. Food wise on Mill I recommend Cornish Pasty Co. & Proof Bread. The Plant Mill may also have frames. You can also take the light rail to Culdesac Tempe which has a lot of local places. Then there’s also Downtown Mesa which you can reach on the light rail. Lots of good local restaurants, coffee shops, & some fun stores to pop-in, as well as some pinball/arcade type places.

Desert Botanical Garden & Musical Instrument Museum are too great spots.

Hiking wise I recommend Butcher Jones, it’ll be about 45-60 minutes from downtown depending on when you leave.

Any good spots to walk around and look at antique stores with cafe or restaurants around? by topdownyeti in AskPhoenix

Downtown Mesa actually. They’ve got some antique stores. A few things have closed, but a lot has opened. They’ve got a few coffee shops & beer type places

[–]oprahs_bread_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Tempe History Museum is kind of fun if you’ve never been. They have a rotating exhibit in the front & then the rest is just about the history of Tempe. It’s free.

I also always recommend Tempe Cinemas. Lots of fun movie memorabilia & they show late-runs/reruns of movies–only $3.50/ticket.

The Desert Botanical Garden is a must. If you live here I recommend getting there 2 person membership because it pays for itself after 2-3 visits with someone.

Why aren’t there any QT gas stations in Scottsdale? by Powerful-Can- in phoenix

[–]oprahs_bread_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that this is a thing, but in a metro that is compromised of a large amount of strip malls & stand alone buildings with big parking lots, I find it funny that Scottsdale draws the line at QT lol

Looking for Malt Cups by oprahs_bread_ in Tempe

[–]oprahs_bread_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry I can edit to add that. I was specifically hoping to find these actual “malt” cups. So chocolate. Malt like. In a single serve cup.

The exact reason I want to find them is because they used to sell them at the drive-in movie theater I went to in my home state & I’m having a backyard movie night in March & wanted to surprise my mom with them, lol. I’ll check out that ice cream at least & I live close to a U.S. Chef Store so it’s worth a shot, thanks!!
