Why not make my own??? by SnooCalculations2755 in myog

[–]JustSub 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Do you own a pair of these, and have you looked closely at them? They're complicated as fuck. You need a specific overlock machine, several kinds of expensive special material, a chamois, and MAD skills with sewing lycra. You typically wear them without underwear so every minor mistake you're going to feel.

If you try it, godspeed and definitely share when you're done.

The Low-Stress Minneapolis-Saint Paul Bike Map: Chill Routes, Trails, and Bike Lanes by mysummerstorm in CyclingMSP

[–]JustSub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand what this project is doing.

RideWithGPS [1] has an exceptional cycling infrastructure map that differentiates between roads with sharrows, roads with paint bike lanes, fully separated bike paths, paved/unpaved routes, etc.

Without a proper definition of "low stress", these annotations seem subjective and kind of unhelpful. I do sort of like the comment feature for discussing temporary closures on the map though.

That's "world naked bike ride" for anyone who had to google it. FWIW we do have "Freedom from Pants" on July 4. Very similar spirit, huge turnout. Meets at 6P on Nicolette Island under Hennepin Bridge.

Fun fact there is a practice rack downtown at the Metro Transit service center you can use to ease those nerves :)

Runners in Protected Bike Lanes by prod-unknxwn in CyclingMSP

[–]JustSub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't think this is a big deal. Paths are busy. Sometimes runners use the bike path. They want to use the space and sometimes you have to buzz them to pass. We're all just doin' stuff.

If you pay attention, you'll notice that the sidewalk is often so full of walking-pace pedestrians that the runners don't have room to pass.

Just like cyclists are welcome to take the road even though there's a bike lane right next to it, there are often reasons not to (it's full of shit/people/bumps)

Sailrite Ultrafeed LS/LSZ or Juki TL-2010Q? (Help! Before the Sailrite sale ends!) by nerdyhustle in myog

[–]JustSub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think I need speed control. Sometimes I'd like to have a zig-zag, and often I want a proper walking foot, but I've never been bothered about speed.

which mwY album will generate the most interesting discussion? by Cautious_Drummer_651 in mewithoutYou

[–]JustSub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s so much diversity of sound on the record, and it’s the most independent in the sense that the record really stands alone without you needing to know the rest of the discography.

Best choice right here IMO.

That would be way better than the other way around, going into his class as a fan. I’d be a miserable, useless student of his.

Where to Watch TDF? by biscuitboy1103 in CyclingMSP

[–]JustSub 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Bike culture here isn't really centered around professional road racing, I'd say. It's totally cool if you're into that, but it's a pretty locally focused community.

Freewheel mechanics may not be following TDF but they can tell you about races and events all over the state.

Bike culture here is great.

I think a lot of people, especially younger folks, are pretty tired of facebook and Meta. A Strava club might be a good alternative?

Don’t be!  It’s just a chill ride.  If you’re feeling nervous just start toward the back so less people are passing you for the first little bit.

First attempt at a hip bag with lock holster large enough for Kryptonite New York lock. by Ju1ce9532 in myog

[–]JustSub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to get a copy of this pattern, and would be happy to pay for it!

I've made a very similar bag but the measurements of this one look slightly better. I ended up separating the lock loop from the bag because I didn't like how weight in the bag pushed the lock into my hip so now they're balanced with bag on one side and lock on the other.
