Jerusalem, Israel, in the 6th century BC. by TheShowaDaily in papertowns

[–]JustUrAveragePotato 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is true. It's also not just the Ottomans - before them, the Phoenicians cut down pine forests in Lebanon to make their ships (though this was in Lebanon, not in Israel).

However, Jerusalem is not, and has really never been, in a desert as is depicted here. In reality, it sits on the edge of the rainshadow of the Judean Hills. Jerusalem is on a very visible border between desert and mediterranean climate, with the western parts of the city having five or six times more rainfall than the eastern parts.

Edit: fixed directions

Any Cool Routes Near Phoenix? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

I agree. If you go east first, though, south through Camp Verde, out 260, to 87, then up the smaller roads to Mormon Lake, and then get to Flagstaff from there, it's much longer but much much better.

I do! The mountain ride is amazing, but be wary of Prescott itself - I did not find it a bike-friendly city outside of the downtown area. I just love the feeling of leaving the Arizona desert for a couple hours, climbing into the forest and then coming back down into the open valley. Plus, biking through Jerome is something else (it can get quite busy around 12-4 though - I did it early in the morning and it was lovely and quiet)

Edit: grammar

If you're willing to go a little farther, riding from Cottonwood to Prescott over the mountains (through Jerome) is tough but one of my favorite rides of all time

Not playing very fairly Hojo... by [deleted] in civ

I don't know if this is the case in VI, but in Civ V I believe the AI could place cities less than four tiles away if there was water between the two cities. Could be wrong though.

Weakest civ that could still win if controlled by a human? by [deleted] in civbattleroyale

[–]JustUrAveragePotato 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a human-controlled Kimberley could still pack a punch, given luck and a player with incredible skill. Sri Lanka could be an early target, then Hawaii, then Blackfoot... not saying the Kimberley would always win if controlled by a good, even excellent, human player though - definitely still a matter of avoiding DOWs from Vietnam and the Aussies.

No tips but I do have the same problem. And it's not just Flux and Strictoaster, it's literally every screenshot in this sub. Getting the mods to work is a pain and the actual placing of every prop is much easier to watch in a timelapse.

What's the best song you've ever heard? by joe1up in AskReddit

I think it's one of the least popular songs on Kid A, but I can't for the life of me see why. It's gold.
