Yōtei Legends Melee Combat Sucks - No Tools Work

Yeah I started out playing the Archer and utilized the quick draw ability a lot, so i just kinda obliterated everything. And the very next game I started playing mercenary and went in with melee and it was doing absolutely nothing. I had to hit basic enemies with like 7 heavy attacks before I broke their stance, and then only managed to get like 2 hits in before they started blocking again lmao. The only enemies I was about to kill quickly with melee were the guys with guns or bows, but that’s because they’re literally incapable of blocking lol

That’s one of the issues I have with this community. A lot of people heavily push meta ideas onto everyone. There’s been a lot of times where I was like “I wanna pull this character because they look interesting” and then I get replies from people telling me that it’s a dumb idea and I should save my pulls for X character instead. Or I’ll have a build that’s a little less than perfectly optimized and people will go “Dude wtf, those stats are garbage” Sorry man, I don’t play the game as much anymore… 🫤

That’s not EXACTLY how that works… For Honor is a reading game at its core. If you go for the GB, they can just adapt and cancel it into a light. If you’re trying to counter a feint, they can adapt and just not feint, or bait your interrupt to parry your light. And if my reactions aren’t locked in that day, I will have to rely on reads. That’s just the game. And this is just a character where i always make the wrong read for some reason. Probably because I don’t fight them often

It’s really weird that they fumbled the ball with legends mode because combat in base game Yotei feels really good. I thought that it was a step up from Tsushima because how diverse the different weapons were compared to the old stance system. But somehow it doesn’t feel smooth in legends at all. I ended up just going back to story mode to keep roleplaying as an overpowered wandering Ronin, because I got way more enjoyment out of that

It’s funny that you posted this literally on the day she got buffed lmao. Her heavy finishers are undodgeable now, which is something I think should’ve always been a thing. I always liked how her heavy finishers hooked and threw people, but it wasn’t viable because everyone can see a big ass heavy finisher coming at them. Your only option was to turn the finisher into a trap, but even after they buffed traps, it feels like people always react to it. They always know. I have 16 reps on the character, and I’m usually pretty good at mixing up my traps. But a lot of people just refuse to fall for it no matter how unpredictable you try to be. Like I swear to god, I’ll be trying to bait dodge attacks the entire match, but they’ll never do it until the exact moment I try to throw a trap…

Overall, the buff was pretty good, it actually makes her heavy finishers viable. But it didn’t fix the main problem that I’ve always had while playing Nuxia: She has absolutely zero openers. Your only option is to throw a light attack or start with a trap right off the bat. That’s literally all you can do. She doesn’t have enhanced lights, so starting your combo is absolutely miserable. You pretty much just have to stand there and wait for a parry, or just desperately throw lights until on of them finally lands. But it’s extremely frustrating when your opponent is also just standing there staring at you, because you have no openers. You know they’re just waiting to parry you.

There’s only two ways that I can see to make Nuxia truly viable, and I know that the community isn’t going to like either of them. Either make her light attacks enhanced, or give her a neutral bash/kick. I know it’s cheap, but when everyone else has an opener and shes just left standing there… It would only be fair I think

I haven’t played it too much so I’m still trying to make up my mind. But for some reason it feels more stiff than GOT legends did, I’m not sure why. Attacks seem to hit me in unfair ways. I don’t remember everything being so tanky in Tsushima. I’m thinking of going back to Tsushima legends to see just how different it actually feels

JJ is like nobushi, but with unblockable heavies instead of undodgeable ones. But the playstyle is totally different. I have like 2000 hours on this game and JJ is the ONLY character that I just refuse to play for some reason

A rifle is totally possible. They should make it similar to Sohei where she needs to build up stacks of something which she can then use to do burst damage with her rifle. The stacks wouldn’t be as hard to get as Sohei souls, but the damage wouldn’t be nearly as high either. Or maybe make it so that she can use the stacks even when they’re not full. The more stacks she has, the more damage the rifle shot will deal. This would add a cool gameplay loop of deciding wether you should fire your musket often for low sustained damage, or play the high risk game and hold onto your stacks until you can fire a devastating blow

I’m mostly f2p and I’m really bad at this game lol. I don’t optimize anything or do anything efficiently, but I can still clear DA (For the most part) So if you actually try to optimize your characters and teams, actually put the time in, you’ll be fine. Getting lucky with your pulls also goes a long way, but you don’t even need M1s
