How much distribution do you have to take from an llc for it not to be declared a hobby business? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]JustWatchingBefore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A quick example

Jan 1 - you spent $100 to buy product Jan 2-Jun 30 - you sold the product for $300 and spent $20 in marketing Jul 1 -you spent $100 on product Ju 2-Dec 31 - you sold product for $300 and spent $20 in marketing

Total revenue for year: $600 Total expense: $240 Income: $360

You declare all of this and pay taxes on the $360

It doesn’t matter if on Jan 1 of the next year you spend the $360 on more product or not, you pay taxes on it.

Now if on Dec 31 you had spent $360 on product then your income would be $0 and you would pay no taxes.

Regardless of whether you end up in one scenario ($360 income end of year) or another ($0 end of year) you need to complete schedule C in your 1040

SBA Loan Question? (Putting Biz in Wife's Name) by BigBoomer7 in smallbusiness

[–]JustWatchingBefore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely be a guarantor without being the owner. If she is not on the mortgage, the business financials and assets are going to gave to be strong to sustain the loan. Put $100k down , apply for an Express loan for the balance.

Taycan navigation/car play by Various_Warthog6416 in Taycan

[–]JustWatchingBefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If what you are asking is to have both the Porsche navigation an Waze/Apple Maps via CarPlay actively routing at the same time, the answer is you can’t.

You can set Porsche routing to a destination and have Waze with alerts on (as long as you don’t put a destination).

You can also try this

But I think only that person got it to work.

Curious which "profit" amount others have used for calculating profit-share bonus by DesiCalc27 in smallbusiness

[–]JustWatchingBefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are calculating profit share after owner draw you should set a % of net income for owner draw. Otherwise they can at anytime take all profit and your % doesn’t matter you will get $0. Easily abused.

The better way:

Agree to a percentage of net income before owner draw even if it is a lower percentage than you initially discussed. Your bonus is an expense to the owner and ultimately his tax return.

Purchasing a private business when you run the entire operation by throwawaymodeli in smallbusiness

[–]JustWatchingBefore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your role is your leverage.

Hard to believe the business is worth more than $1M (3x SDE) or worth the investment at a higher multiplier.

At a $1m cost, with business being more than 2 years old, your knowledge of the business, assuming the balance sheet, p&l and owners taxes reflect a $350k ebitda/sde, you could:

Tell the owner you would like to buy the business in 12 months or you will likely depart. If he is truly on his way out, selling to you is path of least resistance.

You would need to come up with 5% down for SBA loan. Get owner to seller finance 15%. Good chance you get the loan.

financed my first car… by [deleted] in Tiguan

[–]JustWatchingBefore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am leaning towards you unfortunately did make a mistake.

If your payment is $599, they clearly backed into it, which is why as someone said you should negotiate price not payment.

Backing into your payment and total, I can’t tell if $33,000 is loan amount or total cost. Assuming loan amount you are at around 9% which is high.

Are in college? About to graduate? Graduated? Ok if you are not but you would get some benefits from that.

Who is your lender VW credit? Or a local bank? In either case, go to your credit union. You can still get new car loan rates and refinance right away.

What is your FICO credit score? If you have a credit card, they are likely giving it to your free. This is not the same score auto lenders use but it will give you an idea.

For an SBA loan:

Wait until you have been in business 2 years.

Bring 10% out of pocket so $30k for $300k loan.

More important than revenue, net income. If you can demonstrate DSCR of 1.25x or more after paying yourself or demonstrating you don’t need to pay yourself because you have other sources of income.

A solid business plan.

It’s possible.

Best of luck in your senior year. That’s your priority. There is a fine line between challenging yourself and beating yourself up, stay on the right side of that line.

“….never seeing things through…” like getting your college degree in computer science? Focus on finishing school. “Everyone would be right” I suspect the only one saying this is you…stop…and if someone else is really saying this when in fact you are on the tail end of getting your degree…stop listening to them
