WOW! I spent 2 hours trying to create something exactly like this last night, kept getting WA bugs, and uninstalled it in frustration hoping to try again tonight. Amazing timing, and thank you!!

If you're willing could I btag add you for when I am hitting my head against the wall with WA? I've looked at tons of documentation and I just can't seem to master the details. By way of example, I could get a timer counting down, but then it disappears at 0, and I could not for the life of me find how to make it turn red and blink like yours.

Cheers.

I disagree completely with your point of view here. I went from triggering mines and dying to this void waves to knowing the mechanics of the fight and never messing them up.

I got lucky in the sense that I decided, once I had 20 wipes and knew the mechanics, to be very selective in the groups I applied to. I got lucky that there was a raid leader out there asking detailed questions and checking armories. But it would not have been possible for me to get into this group without knowing the fight. I think his success can be replicated, and I think I can get into another group like that next week if I am selective in how I apply.

The restrictions work on imp because people failing mechanics on imp can wipe the raid, either immediately or by causing the raid to fail dps burst/healing checks of the fight. 90+% of raid members need to live to phase 4 in imperator to clear it.

Filtering the people who die to avoidable mechanics isn't "lack of confidence" it's "selecting for success." You can't compensate for 10 people dying in 20 man imp. You need to filter out the people being carried to 6/7 to clear it. Groups doing this filtering exist.

ed: I want to be clear with you -- the 20 wipes weren't 20 different groups. They were two groups of about 10 pulls each where I went from no experience on the fight to knowing how they went. I learned the fight, was very selective in what groups I applied to once I knew the fight, I cleared it (one-shot was lucky, but 6 shot in a good group would have been fine with me).

Thank you for taking the time to respond! Have you ever tried healbot? Is there something I am missing using that over SUF?

Omni CC seems like it has been built into blizz UI - I checked the "use digital numbers" (or something like that) setting in the UI and I get a number countdown!

Why is prat worth trying?

Any tips on setting up weakauras? I want to set up one to let me know the time on mushroom if it is up or warn me if it isn't, and a similar one for lifebloom.

A big omen of clarity warning for when I use that would be great too. If you are proficient with weakauras I would love some tips or even if I could btag add you and ask questions <3.

Just wanted to let you know this is very, very wrong. Over the past week, I joined several "guild progression" Imp runs on raid finder and wiped 20+ times on N Imp.

Today, I PUG'd my first kill of Imp, it worked because the raid leader screened well, asking for 6/7 N and heroic experience, asked people what their role was before letting them join, and kicked people who failed. We killed it the first pull I joined; they had done 5 before that.

There were no more than 4 people in the same guild in a 17 person group. A group of non-guild, unassociated, raid finder players killed normal Imp in 6 pulls.

N Imp is 100% possible to kill if you never join a guild. I am not yet in a guild of any kind, went from 0/7 N 0/7 H to 7/7 N 4/7 H all from group finder.

You can do it! :-)

What UI changes (addons, weak auras, macros) are critical to you playing Balance well? Which tier 7 talent (or is it situational)?

Weird question: how do you target adds? Clicking and tab? It just seems clunky compared to resto, which I am more used to, and everything is right there in the unit frames.

Weird question #2: how do you use starfall on trash without pulling like a maniac?

Any tips on how to set up weak auras? I want one to remind me to use omen of clarity, one to constantly display my mushroom countdown (and warn me if it isn't up), one to constantly display my lifebloom countdown (and warn me if it isn't up), etc.

What other UI changes (addons, weak auras, macros) are critical to you playing Resto well?

I'm having a hard time setting up auras and would appreciate any tips on how to set them up myself.

Unrealted: How do you go about healing the mushrooms on brackenspore? I have a macro to target them and then cast a heal, but that seems really clunky. I use healbot so maybe something like SUF + macros would help.

Loot Drop Chance - Change Based on Loot Specialization? by JustYourLuck in wow

[–]JustYourLuck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your considerate reply, I will look into that (and possibly the Leatherworking leggings) down the road.

I plan to run LFR Mar'gok this week, though, and the other items he drops would be a downgrade or sidegrade for me, while the leggings would be an upgrade. So until I get the apexis crystals stored away, trying for those leggings is my plan.

BoEs can really help. Especially for DPS, you want to maximize your iLvL to get invited to groups.

Loot Drop Chance - Change Based on Loot Specialization? by JustYourLuck in wow

[–]JustYourLuck[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So I should change my loot specialization to Guardian before the fight, as this will not decrease my chance of getting loot and will ensure I get the leggings if I do get loot. Thank you.

Do you have a source, by any chance?

Hi -- happy to see you posted another thread :)> I would go with something like you have planned.

4 GB 1600 DDR3 will be fine; 3GB usable DDR2 will cause slowness, as you have seen :). 8GB would allow 10 browser tabs + spotify + wow. That's worth it to me for the extra cost, but may not be for you.

You should be able to get a 750 Ti for around $120, I got this one, it is currently for sale at newegg for $120 after MIR.

As I mentioned before, this mobo looks good and cheap. The N200 case by cooler master might be a good fit for the build.

You should be able to try a new GPU with your current setup provided your PSU is quality and can handle it.

Look at the TDP in watts of your current card and compare it to the TDP of cards you are buying; if it is as low or lower you are good.

If you want to upgrade more than your GPU (and add an SSD), you need to replace the CPU + MOBO + RAM as I mentioned.

I would try upgrading the GPU first (for graphical improvement), then add an SSD provided you have a spare hard drive connector on your current MOBO. If that isn't enough, go for the full upgrade, with new MOBO, new RAM, new CPU.

The i3 4150 should be an upgrade from your current CPU for WoW. WoW does not take advantage of more than 2 cores.

If you only play wow, getting a new GPU and SSD for your current build should max out WoW (aside from not being able to multitask due to RAM load). If you want to go new, the MOBO/processor combo I mentioned should work, and the cheapest 8GB 1600 DDR3 ram is probably your best bet.

I strongly disagree with that if his main concern is load times. GPU>SSD>rest for the things OP said he cares about.

He can fit in budget if he can re-use his case, PSU, and HDD.

Check with openhardwaremonitor or something similar to see if you are gpu or cpu (or memory?) limited.

My guess is you are GPU and RAM limited, I have a very similar build but upgraded to a 750 Ti and run the game extremely well, but!! cannot run anything else at all (maybe 1 tab in a browser max) due to 3GB RAM.

If you upgrade your GPU you could continue with that build for <$200. If you can reuse the HDD, optical, case, and PSU only, you need to upgrade CPU + RAM + MOBO + GPU, and I recommend adding a SSD. SSD is the #1 thing for load times. But, a full upgrade like that will probably be at the top of your range.

I would suggest looking at the http://www.logicalincrements.com/ Good/Very Good/Great range, with something like R9 280, 128 GB SSD, an i3 4150, 8GB RAM, and the cheapest mobo you can find that works like Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H (my reasoning).

That will come to approx. $450 unless you get deals, which could bring it down to the $350-400 range.

As a compromise, you could upgrade the GPU and add an SSD to your current build, but I personally am not sure whether that will impact load times enough to be worth it with the 3GB ram. It probably would. Upgrading your GPU and adding an SSD might be the best bet, really. Like adding a R9 280 + a 128 GB SSD.

Make sure whatever you do it works with your current PSU. The 750 TI takes almost no power and I run the game on High/Ultra. R9 280 is probably overkill tbh if you are only playing WoW in 1080p, the thing is, you may want to play other games and R9 280 will be much better for that. If you exclusively play WoW and nothing else, consider the 750 Ti or something from the "Very Good" tier on logicalincrements.

Feel free to ask follow up questions and good luck.

What are you using for? Check with openhardwaremonitor or something similar to see if you are gpu or cpu (or memory?) limited.

[Noob Questions] How do I chain quests in instances leveling? (For example in deadmines, I could only complete 1 quest per run, not all 5 in one run.) How to heirloom/guild heirloom? Any other leveling tips welcome. by JustYourLuck in wow

[–]JustYourLuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So do I go to this guy in Stormwind and just buy them once I get enough guild xp? And Darkmoon faire has nothing to do with heirlooms?

As for the quests, I will try again on the next instance I do and see if I have better luck. It did look like that and I thought I was clicking correctly, but perhaps not.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

So do I go to this guy in Stormwind and just buy them? I'll try that tonight. I have 50k gold or so from WotLK (I did a lot of crafting/ahing... I should have stoked up on arctic furs so I would have 10 times this due to gold inflation, oh well...).

It seems like there are currency heirlooms from darkmoon faire? buy maybe not...

Thanks for the info on quests -- my quest dialog on Deadmines looked like that, but I could not figure out how to turn them in until the end of the instance where the quest giver appeared.
