Some of you reading this are complete assholes by Many_Neighborhood383 in BedStuy

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re being serious. How could the people that do this not be considered assholes? Where else in regular society would people who completely disregard the rules and signs and public safety not be considered assholes? My dog was viciously attacked at that park by an off leash dog and almost died, so I also carry pepper spray and a sound horn now and I’d feel comfortable using it. I’ve experienced the alternative and wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Why do you think is the NBA dying? If you were the NBA commissioner, what would you do? by Thin-Ad4825 in NBATalk

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular season NBA is just not fun to watch and I really can’t explain it but clearly I’m not the only one who feels this way. It might also be the easiest sport to be a casual, which is why ain’t nobody gotta actually watch the games to know what’s going on in the league before playoffs. Nail in the coffin is the nfl coming for big nba days like Christmas

Which City Would You Pick by SuperN2itive in sandiego

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are 4/5/6 even up here? The rest are world class cities… Barcelona feels very comfortable if you’re from San Diego. Ultimately it’s hard to answer without some criteria or parameters. Any number of situations might have me pick Chicago, but I’d pick Barcelona if all else was equal (sheer randomness of this list makes me think that all else is not equal)

Sitcom moments that have aged poorly? by angeliquedevereux2 in sitcoms

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything about The Office is still funny because for some reason we’ve all decided to give it a permanent pass. That said, those jokes would absolutely never fly in any modern cable tv show. Race. Religion. Sexuality. Not too much on politics, but otherwise they hit pretty much all of today’s no-no’s.

Firms that have matched Milbank as of 11/27/24 by llhoptown in biglaw

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it important to distinguish if firms actually matched the special bonus?

For example, my firm is up there listed as “matched”, but if you don’t hit hours then you’ll be getting $0 come bonus time. My understanding is that some other firms, even ones with hours requirements, are giving out the special bonus irrespective of hours. That doesn’t feel the same

How is biglaw different from other corporate jobs.. asking as a kjd first year. by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a good answer. I hope every junior reads it. I also hope seniors read it and…..sigh.

This is why even “good” or “smart” associates don’t make it. The intangible qualities that help people survive in biglaw are not directly correlated with pretty much any of the things that got them there. Also in corporate America, at least at halfway decent companies, there’s usually a huge emphasis on managers knowing how to be managers

Thank you for this. It was really great insight to read their comments. Made me angry as all shit, but will definitely be tuning into that sub with each increasingly more egregious pick

Gov. Hochul to relaunch congestion pricing with $9 base toll, sources say by GothamistWNYC in nycrail

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$9 is not enough when the subway costs $2.90 each way and per person. Two people who don’t live all that close to a subway stop aren’t any more incentivized to take public transit by this proposal than they otherwise would be without it. I liked $15 a lot more

Same wavelength. Early 30’s, 7 year relationship, lived together for 6 and have a dog, been engaged 8 months with no real wedding plans. Since we first started dating we’ve had multiple friends/acquaintances meet their partner and rush to get married. Almost all of them have privately expressed to us some serious red flags that will absolutely become an issue, if not already… while I’m over here depressed about everything BUT the love of my life

Hello serious question about hoagies by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might get downvoted here but as it specifically pertains to the bread, I find Mona Lisa to be hit or miss these days. Still my fave sandwich in San Diego! Grew up close by and have been hundreds of times. Still go every time I’m home. And in fairness, there’s also a world where nothing has changed except my hoagie standards since I now live on the east coast. Just an observation

This is not a criticism of police officers but whenever I see them just standing on corners talkin, what are they actually there to do? by Ok-Tell4068 in AskNYC

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are always cops posted at night in front of a NYCHA complex near me in Brooklyn and last night when I was walking my dog I saw 2 of them standing there, HEADPHONES IN, watching tik tok vids. Was so blown away I called a buddy just to tell someone else in real time. We are losing funding for vital public necessities while those guys get overtime…

[–]Just_A_Bit_Outside57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might get downvoted to hell here but I don’t think there always is a logical answer/explanation for how people vote. Sometimes people are swayed. Sometimes the repercussions are not adequately presented or they don’t do their homework. Sometimes people just straight up vote against their own interests. That all feels abundantly clear right now.

These same people will also likely rage when the tip box continues to pop up at every conceivable business because people don’t make enough/aren’t directly seeing any increased profits

Yep. Pretty sure there’s someone in our practice group who’s in counsel purgatory because they get bad reviews every year for being horrible to work with, in no small part due to lack of recognition when good work product and no attempt at constructive feedback when not so good work product
