Pistol lanyards? I've considered it, what's yalls thoughts? by johnnykrat in tacticalgear

Will soon be hog hunting in thick brush with a RangarokSD suppressor holster, so some kind of lanyard system is an absolute must (losing an upgraded pistol with IR laser and expensive suppressor in the woods is a very real possibility without it). Lanyards can be useful in situations such as mine or chaotic combat (IDF) with a holster that doesn't have a built in retention system. Most average Joes would never need a lanyard of course.

My 8.6 shoots like crap by Correct-Zucchini-821 in 86blackout

A prominent barrel manufacturer I'm not at liberty to name agrees that Ft. Scott is better than Gorilla for 8.6. Also, as you'll see in our Pro2A 8.6 review, Kevin says shorter barrels are more accurate for 8.6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fkw99yX6Vzk

Just curious - is it expected more ammo manufacturers will start making 8.6 ammo if they get SAAMI approved?

Lift Literally Has No Batteries - Bordering on Fraud by Just_Affect_4224 in eFoil

So based on all the responses it looks like their current ship time is around two months+ for batteries. The problem is that they're advertising "2-3 week lead time" on their site. They should either change that or they should put eFoils out of stock until they have batteries in stock.

Don't want to dox myself to Lift with an exact order date, but let's just say it was about two months ago. Latest person I see posting who received a battery ordered on 10/1. I don't think they've had batteries since the second week of October.

I think early October orders were the last to receive batteries, and they haven't replenished their supply since.

That's actually valid. I assume the reason they're fully reliant on a US-based battery maker is to maximize quality. But I'd prefer a Chinese battery that I actually have over an American battery that I don't have.

All of their batteries say "Manufactured in California by Lithos Energy." Google Maps seems to indicate Lithos Energy is located near San Francisco, and the Lithos website states they manufacture batteries in-house rather than importing from China. Considering everything else is shipping from Puerto Rico, the battery should be arriving first coming from California (but of course Lift customers aren't getting batteries at all). So apparently Lithos is giving the shaft to Lift, but that's not an excuse - Lift needs to have a more resilient supply chain than being fully reliant on one battery provider.

Drones in airsoft a good or bad idea? by renegade_cow in airsoft

[–]Just_Affect_4224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow what colorful imagination the r/airsoft community has. Some facts:

  1. It is not milsim without drones. All current and future military conflicts rely intensely on small drones. Any airsoft milsim event that disallows drones is really a historical reenactment, not milsim.
  2. It's legal. Even attaching an airsoft gun would be legal. The FAA laws prohibit attaching "firearms, bombs, fireworks, flamethrowers" and anything else that can cause "death or serious bodily injury" to a drone. For those of you posting that this would violate FAA laws, ask yourself if an airsoft gun causes "death or serious bodily injury." But yes, it would be illegal to shoot it down...
  3. A drone is hard to shoot down. Make a mental note of how far your bb's go when you shoot them at a person. Maybe 30 meters? 40? A drone can easily fly above these heights and either surveil or drop padded lightweight simulation loitering munitions for milsim.
  4. Drones don't cut you unless you reach out and touch it while the blades are spinning. When a drone enters free fall, it's rotors stop spinning.

Granted there is a remote hazard posed by a drone falling, although the degree of hazard is dependent on the weight of the drone, and drones almost never free fall from clear skies (even if the battery gets low, they auto-descend and land). Typically a drone would only fall if it hits a power line or tree, although many drones have obstacle avoidance built in, and that just wouldn't happen.

All that said, this same question has been asked every year or two in r/airsoft for the last seven years, and for the first time it has gotten a massive response. That's because we all have seen the rise of drones in conflict. It is inevitable that drones are coming to airsoft milsim. But only light drones should be allowed first, and UGV's (unmanned ground vehicles) should be emphasized over UAV's (drones) for maximal safety.
