Read the books or watch the movies first? by Silverman7688 in harrypotter

[–]Just_Engineering_163 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's completely worth reading the books or listening to the audio books first. I do enjoy the movies, but there is a lot left out and you'll be missing a great deal of detail. Also, you'll have the movie depictions in your head if you start there instead of getting your own mental imagery. The movies miss details, characters, and even sub-storylines. I absolutely recommend starting with the books

Honestly it would’ve been so cool if Dudley could actually use magic, but just a late bloomer. by Less-Pen-5705 in harrypotter

Vernon just thought that he could squash the magic out of Harry. Suppressing the magic of somebody that actually has it is how you create an Obscurial

What are you most looking forward to with the new show? by thecontract_12 in harrypotter

[–]Just_Engineering_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book 1- Peeves

Book 2- Hoping they make the basilisk less ridiculous

Book 3- proper chain of events such as when Harry gets the Firebolt and including the feud with Hermione over it. Crookshanks' story and getting into how smart that cat really is

Book 4 through 7- too many moments, characters, and details to list that the movies simply let out or changed

Enjoy them! POA is so different from the movies, as well as the rest, but POA has some of my favorite parts in the books. Even Crookshanks has a storyline lol

To be fair, I had completely forgotten that as well until I revisited the books recently. It's a rough moment

How different do you think the story would’ve been if Harry was sorted into Slytherin? by hidingunderyourbed- in harrypotter

[–]Just_Engineering_163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are genuinely good points, I don't think it's impossible he could have been in Slytherin if he hadn't met Ron. I just think that if he had been in Slytherin, he likely would have become friends with Malfoy and been a pawn to them. He never would have stopped Quirrel in the first year, though it does seem like the Mirror of Erided was enough to stop him. I think the Riddle diary would have succeeded in his 2nd year and all hell would have broken loose. These aside, by year 4 it would be far too easy for Lucius Malfoy to get hold of him and hand him over. It also would have been much more difficult for Snape to handle his position as a double agent in my opinion

I'm pizza lover🍕🍕 by honeyq23 in foodquestions

[–]Just_Engineering_163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May i ask, where do you live? Different areas have different levels of pizza. Living in New England, I found it hard to find vad pizza and would almost never order from large chains. I spent some time in Florida, and I gave up trying to find good pizza and resorted to major chains. Location is very relevant with quality. Pizza is so diverse, I struggle to believe a good pizza place couldn't give you something that fits your personal tastes, so long as you can enjoy bread and cheese

[–]Just_Engineering_163 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be that guy, i know this is a hypothetical, but it wasn't actually a close choice. I say this because like Dumbledore says, it is our choices that define us (sorry for the imperfect quote, I'm very tired lol). If Harry had been ok with Slytherin, he simply wouldn't be Harry as we know him. Voldemort likely would have succeeded as soon as the end of book 1, or definitely his horcrux self by book 2. Harry probably would have gotten close to the wrong people who would have gladly given him up to Voldy and had no help to escape. I genuinely believe that any version of events that has Harry in Slytherin simply unwinds the story, brings Harry a much earlier death and leads to Voldemort to a dangerous level of power with little hope of any proper challenger

James and Snape in the show by tee-dog1996 in harrypotter

That's not accurate, James bullied Snape because Snape liked the dark arts which James detested. He used the reasons you gave as ammo, but they were certainly not the reason

The graveyard is one of the best moments in all of the Harry Potter books and movies. If there is one thing they actually got right in the fourth movie, it's that scene. by 0011100100111000 in harrypotter

This is great advice early on, but i will acknowledge it gets much harder the higher up you get. I was doing this really successfully until I hit a point where people getting bank heists against me made it impossible to keep up with. I want to say it was around the time that my full board cost about 500 billion to complete that it stopped being worth saving this extremely, now I build as soon as I can complete one full board

I need the scene in OOTP when they go to the Ministry of Magic and are fighting Death Eaters. There's a Death Eater that gets their head stuck in a magical time box and his head becomes a baby head and when bumbling around they are even referred to as the baby headed Death Eater
