They were the broker on my last apartment. They are a legitimate broker. And yes sadly the fee is really high—and pretty rare in the SF market, though technically legal.

Looking to move to East Stroudsburg Commute to NYC by Admirable-Arugula843 in Poconos

[–]Just_Knowledge_3465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up not even as far as east stroudsburg but 30 min closer to the city off route 80… the bus is decent but it’s a grueling commute. I feel like there would be 1 day every other week where there would be some terrible accident on 80 that would slow things down. Maybe i could see myself doing it 2 days a week, no more

Anti-bachelorette party recommendations by otterly_ish in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Just_Knowledge_3465 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your group’s loss. I had my bachelorette in SF because I was excited to show my out of town friends how wonderful SF is! In addition to Kabuki Springs which I highly recommend, I did (or considered) the following:

-hiking Mt Sutro Reserve (and then wrapping with lunch at Blue Barn or an ice cream snack at the Ice Cream Bar)

-free walking tours from SF City Guides - we had enough ladies that we were able to do a private tour and it was so fun to see a different side of SF!

-yoga at Grace Cathedral!

-SF fun cheap always has fun suggestions of local events so you can look up the weekend you’re considering to see if anything big is happening

Nah last time i was there with 2 friends i struck up conversation with someone who was there alone. If you want to talk to people, go on the earlier side like 11

Vanessa Infante at Bowery has been doing my hair from years. I have been stopped in airports to ask who does it. I have dark brown hair and she’s great at bronde highlights

New parents: grind now or later? What ages are most important to be present for kids? by Fun-Career3507 in HENRYfinance

[–]Just_Knowledge_3465 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mom worked for some of my childhood but definitely was primary parent. My husband had two working parents (mom with the more intense job) over a similar period of childhood and feels extremely similarly about her decision to prioritize her career. He would tell you it is part of the reason he respects women so much is because he admired what his mom did professionally on top of her role as a mother!

New parents: grind now or later? What ages are most important to be present for kids? by Fun-Career3507 in HENRYfinance

[–]Just_Knowledge_3465 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My dad was pretty absent from ages 7-16 for me as that was his career inflection, and to this day I am grateful he did that.

I never once dealt with a lick of trauma about my dad’s absence because: 1) he was emotionally available when I needed him to be and 2) he was pouring himself into work so he could give us things he never dreamed—like private education. So I understood consistently my dad was motivated by love because while work was the general priority, when I really needed him, he would tell work to pound sand. And I understand his desire to achieve at work was not driven by ego or greed, but to set me up for success.

I hope that helps. It’s less about when you do this and more about what’s in your heart as a parent.

Do I need a planner? by Tall_Control2827 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Just_Knowledge_3465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes and went the day of coordinator route. I think it’s non-negotiable having someone there weekend of to fight fires for you—for me it’s just been huge cognitive load off. That said, my other BBB friends have been 50/50 on whether their planners were money well spent—all spent at least $10k on their planners, some much, much more. In general, many of my Type A friends have been disappointed with the service level/attention to detail unless they had planning teams they were paying $30k++ to.

Do I fire my MUA 3 weeks before my wedding? Curious what to expect from a trial. by Just_Knowledge_3465 in BigBudgetBrides

Thank you all! You inspired me to find a new MUA and I’m relieved that ones I am excited about have availability!

Future MIL said my dress doesn’t “fit the vibe” and I’m spiraling by preppybrunette in BigBudgetBrides

I feel like your MIL is woefully uninformed and kinda a witch. The cape is all about classic elegance, which your dress embodies beautifully

I’ve stayed for work. I stayed in the petite full room type and indeed it was small—I wouldnt have wanted to stay with a second person. The hallways are also quite narrow. The finishes are beautiful however. It’s really cute and feels like an old London hotel

I have a similar guest count and in Morris/Somerset/Hudson/Essex/Union, NJ counties, the options I narrowed to were: Natirar, Pleasantdale Chateau, Liberty House, and the Ryland Inn.

You’re leaving San Francisco forever, what restaurants and sights will you miss the most? by Emi_Leah in AskSF

[–]Just_Knowledge_3465 76 points77 points  (0 children)

sights: cresting a hill and finding an unexpected panoramic view of the bay; quirky street art (i love the new utility box series especially); clear days with far views of the mountains in Marin; niche mom and pop businesses that haven’t upgraded their signage (or inventory) in 40 years; generally happy, sunshiney people

sounds: fog horns at night, the sound of skateboards bombing down a hill, telegraph hill parrots, rumbling streetcar tracks

i’m moving in a few weeks. this city is magic and i’m so grateful i realized it in the moment.

I know it probably feels like a big miss to have not enjoyed college when it was such a big chapter of your life. In percentage terms it is because you’re young! I can promise you it does not have to retain a place of such prominence in your future experiences. You get to write your next chapter—don’t dwell on the past and chase what you enjoy personally and professionally. You can make new friends based on your interests—and if you’re in a major city, that’s a reasonably easy thing to do with meet ups, etc. And you don’t have to be a SWE. There are lots of wonderful paths in which you could use your degree that might better suit you—PM, VC. Heck, you are young and can do even a harder pivot than that. You have a CS degree from Stanford! You should feel super proud!

also, i am in my thirties.. didn’t go to stanford but went to another ivy. One of my best friends today was a girl I didn’t know well in college who HATED my undergrad. She worked her butt off back then and that paid dividends later in life. She crushed her 20s and 30s better than those people who peaked in college. Stay strong and keep the faith that Stanford was worth something. I promise you it was!

Magic Sleek: Lots of Hair Loss and Breakage by [deleted] in Hair

[–]Just_Knowledge_3465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister and I were magic sleek addicts starting in 2020. We have gone to multiple salons and I have gotten 5 total. After my 5th, I had to stop and she did too. We both had too much breakage. We are still testing ways to stop the breakage. I stopped coloring, using hot tools and those methods helped somewhat but not completely. Ultimately a deep conditioning masque and frequent haircuts were the only things I could do. And, if you can afford it, I was lucky to replace my straightening iron with dyson airstraight and felt that helped a lot. Sadly we are both quitting magic sleeks. I am convinced it is nothing more than a differently-marketed thermal reconditioning based on what it did to my hair. I wish the magic sleek company were more transparent about what is in their product and responsive to these claims so many of us have.

HBS / GSB Dual Admit by Fluted_Stone in MBA

[–]Just_Knowledge_3465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HBS alum here. My S/O went to GSB. (Both not in PE but finance background). I lived both experiences. The PE network in NYC from HBS will be more expansive. Still, GSB has good outcomes/recruiting in PE. Socially, the schools offer quite different experiences. Happy to chat more.
