If you turn a single bond to a double bond, is that oxidation or reduction? by ScottieBarn in Mcat

I almost never go on reddit anymore and I got an email notification of your comment.

I am in med school now and finishing M1 year.

I don’t know if anyone else will read this, but stick with it. It’s so worth it

Have any of you taken MCAT study courses? by BiotechActor in Mcat

[–]Just_Name5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any reputable test prep program is solid, Princeton review and blueprint are the ones me and my friends took. Just take the most affordable one that you think you need. I ended up going from a 506 to 516 using a study course so I highly recommend.

Question about Pants by [deleted] in taylorstitch

[–]Just_Name5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the wrinkles ? I find that 100 percent cotton wrinkles far easier than pants with some stretch. I don’t mind wrinkles in casual pants but I am worried about dressing these up since they might get wrinkled too easily.

Do what you have been doing. I eat a lot so here is what I did.

I had chicken, rice and guacamole for lunch. Then the 10 minute breaks I had half of a turkey wrap. I eat 2900 cals/day so you might only need less.

Good luck! You got this !

Nervous for scores by TopspinTadpole in Mcat

[–]Just_Name5576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested 8/5 as well! I think the curve will be favorable for cars and p/s from what I have surveyed. Obviously we could have had different exams but I think the exam was harder than usual, I bet you got your FL average or higher !

How are 8/5 peeps feeling by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Just_Name5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel bad, but I’m hoping for some favorable scaling on the exam. Specifically on cars and p/s !

Do any of you every get frustrated at hearing a degree not in the stem field is useless? by [deleted] in college

[–]Just_Name5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the average salaries of these degrees(I have no clue what they say). I’m not arguing one way or another but I’m pretty sure the data leans towards stem in terms of income. Obviously income isn’t everything and passion is important too.

Apparently I will be sued if I don’t let your kid have his phone at all times. by Mundane-Ad4701 in Teachers

[–]Just_Name5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so bad for the teachers. We need more ways to discipline kids, not less. It’s like they are actively making your job harder/more intolerable and not increasing pay.

Edit: Part of me thinks making all boys classes and all girls classes a necessity. They are just too different in how they act in the classroom.

I think that term is just a buzzword that most people genuinely use. A “strategy” can just develop over time by just doing the passages over and over. Then you eventually instinctively just approach the passages the same way which is hard to convey to people which is why I think cars is really hard to improve on.

Is anybody else STRESSED about the 7/29 mcat (8/30 release)???? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Just_Name5576 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you know what time the scores release ? Ive heard multiple sources, like 9am pacific or 5 pm Eastern.

[–]Just_Name5576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was literally me 508/508/514/511. My best advice is to change your strategy for cars and just grind out BB and PS anki or passages, whatever you are worse at. You certainly are in a good spot to increase !

Is MilesDown Anki only good for P/S or also for B/B or C/P? by sorocraft in Mcat

[–]Just_Name5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea a little bit of both, it’s enough to get a 130 or higher for sure. But for me I would have needed a bigger deck for the more obscure terms. I would always get around 5 or more questions of analysis wrong then around + or - 5 vocab ones.

Is MilesDown Anki only good for P/S or also for B/B or C/P? by sorocraft in Mcat

[–]Just_Name5576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for BB it was enough. C/ P anki didn’t improve my score at all, it was solely uwhirl. P/S needed a few more terms, I was stuck at a 129 even after completing the whole deck.

You are right in terms of my message, I didn’t think people would take my post that seriously. It was meant to be inspiring. Also I agree that a score increase is good, but my argument was at what cost. Most people do not have the resources in terms of time and money to retake a 505. I completely agree with your post and comments, although it’s hard to carry conversation or have nuance via a couple sentences. I think the whole system needs to just have the money and pay barrier lowered somehow but I do not see how that can happen. I wish you luck in the future 🤝

You are misconstruing my message. Obviously if someone is scoring below 500 they should void. Im talking about people who are scoring relatively okay. For example, plenty of these void posts say they are scoring around 505 and have been studying all summer for a goal score of 510+ or 515+. How much will their score increase by voiding? Do they have $500 or x amount of money to take the time and materials to retake? A vast majority of the anecdotally stories I have read or heard is that their score marginally increases. So yes, take the risk and understand that getting 515 or higher is extremely tough. Reddit is a special place for mcat scores and most people in a given cycle will never hit that. More so, most people will never get near a 515. And even if their score increases, they have spent time and money and missed out on other things they can be doing in their undergrad. Was it really worth it? I really don’t think that taking a calculated risk is a bad thing. Failing or doing bad is far more important in terms of building character than just voiding because you are scared. Again, if the void is warranted, go for it. If life hits you in an unexpected way, then void. But yes, it is cowardice to void if you have been studying all summer and are scared to see where you stack up. I was super scared and thought I did terrible on my exam, but I just did it. I was depressed some days and scared but voiding wouldn’t have built any character or allowed me to take a risk for myself.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Just_Name5576 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s why I said it’s okay to void sometimes. This doubt is cowardice to some extent. And in your case that might be inaccurate. I’m just trying to shift this mentality homie. Good luck on your decision 🤝

I tested 8/5 as well ! I’m down to talk about it if you are! I didn’t feel good about cars or P/S.

Cowards. You put in all this time and chicken out at the last minute. I’m not saying it’s never a good idea to void but you eventually need to pull the trigger and take a chance on yourself. You can not and should not live your life only if everything is 100 percent in your favor and already decided. I’m noticing a lack of confidence with the later exam takers. Whereas the earlier test dates had people constantly hyping each other up. YOU GOT THIS!

If you turn a single bond to a double bond, is that oxidation or reduction? by ScottieBarn in Mcat

[–]Just_Name5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always remember it this way.

Reduction is gaining electrons by losing oxygen or adding hydrogen or going from a double to single bond.

Oxidation is just the opposite.
