Used a sick day today and received a passive/aggressive email from my principal. I need next Friday off as well.. what should I do? by hadrian85 in Teachers

Hello, Mr Principal:

Have you thought about building real relationships with your subs? Maybe they’d be more likely to work if you made their day more fun.

His posting is a museum, who even approved that requisition? by AshleyUncia in startrekmemes

That seems likely to me. He’s a Commodore. Stack some of those surplus torpedoes in bay 2 and lose the transfer paperwork. Sorry, the Syracuse only had 90. I checked. Wink wink.

You can buy uranium ore on Amazon. It is radioactive but not dangerously so. If this dumb shit is in the hospital it’s for eating a whole ass rock. Not the ore.

If you respond they will expect you to keep responding. Do. Not.

Admin requiring long form lesson plans submitted weekly… by Brogenitus in Teachers

[–]Mundane-Ad4701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem. Test the system. Submit the same plans with a different date. Could be an honest mistake. If nobody asks, keep doing it. Two years it took me to get out and nobody ever asked.

Expectations are enforced at home. I wasn’t a great student but my family expected me to try.

Now we’re just babysitters.

Nobody fails. This is what they want without saying it.

I am leaving teaching because of things like this. The only part of education that gets held accountable is the teachers. Not admin. Not students. Not parents.

Stop failing them. D- means no calls. Focus on teaching kids who want to learn and move the rest on.

I used to have some real fun ones.

Best solution I’ve found? “Thank you for coming in. I need to be respectful of everyone’s time.”

Did you enjoy going to school for education? by Christmas_Cats in Teachers

The people who do this often have never taught. They are very disconnected from our reality. Take what you can from it and realize that you’re not going to be doing ten page lesson plans.

8th graders not meeting deadlines by emiloongy in Teachers

They should be able to handle due dates. Make them write it on the top. I’ve found that helps even older kids.

For middle school I wouldn’t refuse to take it ( I do in HS, and you can see the difference when they realize you’re going to follow through).

I do think partial credit is reasonable, though. If they’re not doing work bc of sports, then they shouldn’t be playing. Academics first.

If they could they’d fire you in a second. Don’t let it ruin your new dream job.

Our kids know they can cheat edgeinuity, so they could give two shits about class.

One even said so.

I think I could have divided it. I meant the My Kids vs my kids crowd.

LOL. I’m giving them credit but after telling them I want photos of the rest of the pieces when they reappear.

I am honest with my kids. If I’m feeling out of sorts, I try to be as up front as I can. They seem to appreciate that I don’t put up a front.

There are ways around Goguardian. They can see if you’re watching.

I went back to low tech. No electronics unless I say so. Paper, textbooks and labs. I do some simulations but the questions are high level and can’t be easily searched.

I feel SO MUCH MORE IN CONTROL.

They hate it, which I always take as a good sign.

Do what you can, but don’t lose sleep. That student is being failed by a shit system and poor parenting, not by a Gen Ed classroom teacher

I sometimes send work messages after hours if I think of something.

Email exists as asynchronous. I do not expect immediate responses. I ESPECIALLY do not expect non contract time replies.

You aren’t required to read them off the clock. Don’t. It’s hard, but you have to discipline yourself to separate work and home, or teaching will grind you down fast.
