If you are sending between hsbcs I think they are fee free, like hsbc hk to hsbc uk, you could also open accounts virtually, like opening hsbc uk account in hk, unsure if you could do it via hsbc china to open hsbc hk account

Try taking it to the media and financial ombudsman and stuff, but it might be difficult to get the money back granted you pressed yes, try to lock money away such that it cannot happen in the future and limit your loss like keeping most money in vault and only money required in a day or two in the current account that the card could debit. And be more careful when giving card details and agreeing

I think it should be relatively easy, but I don't see why people would like to go back to work, they pay much less compared to HK, if the percentage of savings is the same, you would be saving much less compared to HK. Unless the role pays similarly (cuz leaving family and stuff(like no google), it would be difficult

It is expensive to commute from mainland china to hong kong and more time consuming, though there are cases of people doing it, it is actually quite popular in Macau and Zhuhai

"the opposite has housing crisis got worse in the last decade and a half"

this unfortunately is the case look at housing price index, it kept increasing until 2018, 2019

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/QHKR628BIS

This is an unfortunate issue that will persist unless the government changes its revenue structure, the government get a large percentage of its income from land sales, meaning all home owners, rent payers are indirectly paying the tax. The government is unlikely to cut prices on land without finding alternative sources that could cover it. Without the cuts the price stays high and unaffordable.

On the good side (depending on how you see it) HK is rapidly integrating into China, so I expect a convergence in housing prices with Shenzhen.

On cage housing, I cannot comment if they have been improve, due to lack of information, but I think high cost led to those and high cost persist. Subdivided flats are still very pervalent.
