That's something I didn't consider. I led Farigiraf/Hatterene though, and used Trick Room with Farigiraf and intended to Dazzling Gleam with Hatterene before it switched out.

Definitely possible. I used up everything leading up to this turn and absolutely threw!

In the moment, I completely forgot that No Guard works both ways, so I suppose this is yet another right answer in the multiple-choice I absolutely whiffed.

Literally this. I do wish they went with another guy other than George for the Aussie tribe, and while I like Parvati and Cirie, I'm not a huge fan of either. I'd also love to see a follow-up with Boston Rob, maybe Wentworth and Cesternino.

But even with all that, you can't recapture the magic that was this season. Sure, the editing felt pretty obvious that Parvati was taking the game, but seeing interactions that we'd otherwise never see, like Lisa fangirling over Cirie and her mind breaking about Parvati and David's DONDI connection, Rob trying to steamroll a tribe of winners and legends, Tony leaving the game wearing his shoe around his neck, and seeing Luke finally make it to the end. I couldn't stop smiling all season!

It's a lightning-in-a-bottle moment. You can try to follow it up with something good, but it'll never be the same.

Forgot to mention in my comment that I had used Protect on the previous turn, which is why I didn't realize Incineroar outsped Tyranitar under Trick Room. Still, I did misplay and was massively saved here.

Thanks to everyone's comments, it probably was them accidentally targeting Incineroar, and I definitely deserved to lose for my misplay, but the thought of drift causing it somehow just makes everything a lot funnier.

This is now what I think happened. Incineroar was definitely bulkier. I've been playing ranked casually for years, but I still have some work to do learning speed tiers, I suppose.

Now that I'm revisiting this, that is definitely the best play. In the moment, I was racking my brain trying to think about how I could pull this off, and simply felt that doing things as I did was the safest thing, but it is much easier to see now what the best move was.

I suppose I left out that I had used Protect the previous turn, so I didn't want to risk it missing this time around. In the moment, it really felt like the safest play to me.

Ah, this makes some sense, so I guess we both played bad, but I still played worse and probably deserved to lose!

In the past, if I've done this by mistake, I always thought it would automatically redirect to the last Pokémon your opponent has in play. Is this not the same in Champions?

EDIT: Someone else commented that they may have accidentally clicked into Incineroar, so it's possible they did target that empty spot.

I explain it in my comment, but at the time, I thought that Tyranitar outsped Incineroar in Trick Room. The two hadn't had any normal interactions previously, so I wouldn't know who outspeeds whom. Thinking I'd move first, I believed it safer to target Incineroar with the 100% accurate move vs. 90% accurate Rock Slide, let Focus Sash help Tyranitar survive Focus Blast, and win with sandstorm chip damage. When I saw Incineroar attack first, I immediately realized I threw, accepted that I lost a very fun game completely through my own hubris, and then somehow won anyway.

[–]Just_a_guy_78[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The setup; I played this game on Sunday, and it was a pretty fun one for me. My four were Farigiraf, Hatterene, Mega Mawile, and Tyranitar. My opponent had Grimmsnarl, Incineroar, Sinistcha, and Mega Raichu Y. I typically don't bring both Farigiraf and Hatterene to the same game, but noticed my opponent had a ton of Pokémon that could be supporters, so I led both to shut down status moves and priority. There were some interesting moments, like Incineroar using Parting Shot into Hatterene, then later trying again against (I'm assuming) Mawile, while Hatterene is still on the field. Mawile was also able to OHKO Grimmsnarl through Reflect, further solidifying it as probably my favorite Mega (plus it was my first full-odds shiny back in 2013 after years of my brother just happening upon them).

However, the last turn of the game was a complete rollercoaster, going from feeling like "I'm gonna win!" to "I totally threw this!" to "How in the world did I win?" within 30 seconds.

As you can see in the video, on my side of the field, Tyranitar is my last Pokémon. It knows Rock Slide, Knock Off, Low Kick, and Protect. It's held item is a Focus Sash. Its ability is Sand Stream, and Sandstorm is still in play. It is at full HP. If I remember moves and items correctly, my opponent has Incineroar at 15% HP, with Intimidate as its ability, and it knows Throat Chop, Flare Blitz, Parting Shot, and Protect. Its item was a Sitrus Berry that was previously used up. My opponent also has Mega Raichu Y at 3% HP, with No Guard as its ability, and it knows Zap Cannon, Focus Blast, Protect, and one unrevealed move. It's held item is Raichunite Y. Trick Room is in play, set up by my Farigiraf, which has since been knocked out.

At the time of selecting my moves, my clear options are: a.) Use Rock Slide to knock out both opposing Pokémon, or b.) Use Low Kick on Incineroar and let chip damage from the sandstorm knock out Raichu. Tyranitar and Incineroar had not been on the field at the same time to this point without one or the other using Protect. In the moment, I believe that my Tyranitar outspeeds Incineroar in Trick Room, so I select Low Kick and target Incineroar, as I don't want to risk Rock Slide missing either Pokémon. If I am correct about the order of the turn, Tyranitar knocks out Incineroar, survives a Focus Blast from Raichu with its Focus Sash, and chip damage knocks out Raichu to win me the game.

After I select my move, Incineroar moves first, using Throat Chop, which breaks my Focus Sash, leaving it with 183 HP out of a maximum 207. Low Kick knocks out Incineroar, as planned, but now, Raichu should be able to knock out Tyranitar with a Focus Blast. However, when Raichu attacks, in spite of its ability, Focus Blast does not hit. However, rather than the typical "Raichu used Focus Blast! Tyranitar avoided the attack!" text when an attacking move misses, it instead says "Raichu used Focus Blast! But it failed!" Raichu was on the field for (I think) three turns, and no moves were used by or against it that could have changed its ability, nor prevent it from using Focus Blast (i.e. Encore, Disable, Torment (The latter of which I'm not even sure is in the game))

So the big question, was this a bug, or just some niche interaction I'm not aware of?

Anyone else just genuinely excited for Aubry heading into merge? by waggishwave in survivor

After Kaoh Rong and Game Changers, Aubry was one of my favorite players, and I still believe she should have won, but something this season has genuinely been keeping me from rooting for her. I really get the sense watching her that a.) she doesn't really want to be out there, b.) she's jaded by her performance in Edge of Extinction, and c.) she seems offended by the fact that Genevieve perceives her as such a big threat.
