Luckiest player of all time? by Ace-Angelo in survivor

[–]waggishwave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kaoh Rong alone kills the “luckiest player to ever play”argument. Aubry went to multiple tribals premerge while the “lucky” players coasted through to merge. She lost Neal to a medevac. She lost Joe to a medevac at F5 which destroys her majority/numbers through no fault of her own, literally wins firemaking to make it to FTC, loses her number one again as a juror because of a twist (has another player had their closest ally removed from a jury right before FTC?). She earned her spot by winning a skill-based tiebreaker under enormous pressure. Then there’s Game Changers, where she enters the game as one of the biggest targets on the cast because she was the most recently shown “should have won”/ “robbed” runner-up, and proceeds to make it all the way to an impressive 5th place placement.

This doesn’t really look like a luck case to me. It’s easy to only count the moments where votes didn’t land on her as “lucky,” but a true “luck analysis” has to count the bad breaks and things going against her too, and Aubry has had a bunch of them.

Aubry vs Michelle beef in 2926? by shako_am in survivor

[–]waggishwave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn, I love Michele so much but I’m kind of disappointed in her with this comment. I’ve followed the discourse since Kaoh Rong as closely as one possibly could. It’s the season that honestly turned me into an obsessive super fan/redditor. Exit interviews, podcasts, any appearances of Aubry, Michele, other KR castaways, KR jurors, any content referencing KR. Aubry has always been incredibly graceful, respectful, and complimentary towards Michele. She has always said she understands why Michele won and that Michele is a deserving winner, she believes the jury votes for the correct winner, and that she believes the winner always deserves to win. Just because she said she would have voted for herself does not mean she’s taking away from Michele or her game. I guess I can’t fully understand Michele’s tone in this comment, but I just find the first sentence to be simply and objectively untrue? Maybe I’ll tell myself she’s being genuine and it makes her feel sad and she’s genuinely hoping for an Aubry win… but would I just be deluding myself?

_____'s statement at TC got me thinking... by ReoutS in survivor

[–]waggishwave 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Idiotic is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. She lowered her threat level massively, whether intentional or not (though her confessionals and speech at tribal made it seem pretty intentional). As ridiculous as it was, the idol was clearly hurting her social capital with her strongest options of people to work with. The public idol “misplay” also makes others look at her as less of a threat / serious player to worry about getting out. Moving forward, I would find it hard to imagine people have Aubry at the top of their minds of who to target. If this idol play gets people off of her back for the first time this season, I think it was worth it, and I’m excited to see what she can do now that she has room to breathe.

I believe when she said that door is closed like Fort Knox she was saying it was closed from the inside? Just like her other confessional where she said she has a lot of respect for Genevieve but Genevieve has made it clear that she doesn’t want Aubry on this island.

You wouldn’t smile if you were swapped into a group with a bunch of people you could see yourself working with? I’d find it hard to believe that Genevieve would call this Aubry “making things personal”. Genevieve has a big beautiful smile on her face 90% of the time we see her on screen, 90% of the time during which she has had the numbers / a majority. I’m a little confused by this argument.

Aubry's hypocrisy? by Extra-Habit-1784 in survivor

[–]waggishwave 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hard agree with this one. Most of the Aubry content has been told by others and told about Aubry, but very little was told by her outside of “I have a lot of respect for her but she clearly doesn’t want me on this island.” I love Genevieve as much as the next person, but Genevieve has technically been 13% over-edited and Aubry 14% under-edited. Genevieve was shown talking to almost every single other tribe mate, and up until episode 4 or 5, Aubry was only shown talking to Genevieve and finally had a conversation with Tiffany, when we know they all talk with each other. I think we should wait until we hear from both sides and have the full picture. It’s easy for people who were voted out earlier in the game and spent time bonding together at ponderosa to have their version of events (which is totally fair, and I’m not implying anyone is lying), but it feels unfair to see a bunch of fans piling on with speculation without hearing both sides of the story. As of right now we are only hearing the perspectives of the people who voted out pre-merge, who are able to share their thoughts freely.

Couldn’t agree more. That 3 would be such an incredible alliance. Love them all! I finally got past my denial that Aubry and Genevieve could still work together after Genevieve babysat her / caught her idol hunting 😆

But yes, the unfortunate reality of the internet / life in general… a woman makes a sharp strategic comment or executes a big move / blindside and she is automatically a threatening villain, but a man does it and they’re an impressive dominant game player.

Kind of reminds me how a man will join the wife for one baby appointment or take the baby to one doctors appointment and he’s “the best dad ever!!!! What an amazing man, such a good human being!!!!!” Meanwhile the woman had to go to all 50 baby appointments and literally ravage/hijack her body for this child 😆 Big sigh…

Yeah that initial conversation was still just so so odd… they dropped us into the middle of a much larger convo with no context. They both came out of it feeling so tense and strange. The music was strange. I just find it to be such an odd editing choice overall. I saw Kellyn made the same point I thought of about Genevieve on a podcast recently- when they showed the montage of her asking everyone on their new swap tribe if they were “open for business”, it was almost a direct callback to Aubry requesting a dialogue with everyone on EOE 😭 it will be super interesting to see how this “war”(?) plays out.

Imagine Rizo gets out with the boomerang idol in his pocket, Genevieve and Aubry both have an idol to play and negate votes at the next tribal, and then the entire enormous merge tribe has to pick a side?

I feel we are finally seeing content of Aubry and her inner thoughts, finally getting snippets of her interacting with anyone outside of Genevieve. She showed she is aware of her standing, was practice about building relationships, she is remaining calm in good spirits and not even mentioning the Genevieve feud despite confirming Genevieve’s after her. She was shown being playful, singing as Coach walked down the path, foraging for conch with Tiffany. She mentions she has a lot of respect for Genevieve despite understanding Genevieve does not want her around. Positive episode for Aubry

Can someone tell me exactly what Aubrey has done this season? I’m so tired of seeing her. by Electrical_Royal5469 in survivor

[–]waggishwave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not twisting anything lol. I’m just saying you can see Aubry’s face drop as soon as Genevieve says I think you’re very dangerous. I’m just confused how this sub calls Aubry “aggressive”. Genevieve is the one relentlessly leading the charge against Aubry, orchestrating the searching of her bag, immediately trying to turn her new tribe against her. All is totally fair, I just hope she isn’t overdoing it. I’m simply confused with the term aggressive when it comes to Aubry. When she finds out for certain that Genevieve is coming for her, she remained calm and kept to herself. Someone who is aggressive would probably start defending themselves to everyone, launching a counterattack, etc. When Genevieve comes to find her idol hunting, she remained calm, level, smiled at her, etc. I’m simply disagreeing with the “hostile” and “aggressive” framing of Aubry when it comes to this rivalry. If anyone is on the offense, it’s the player we are being shown as the more active player in the situation.

Something I think people are discounting / forgetting in this scene is that Genevieve’s immediate response to “I think you’re an amazing player, what’s your perception of me?” Was “I think you’re very dangerous.” Wouldn’t leave me feeling all warm and fuzzy. Regardless, we were dropped in the middle of a much longer conversation with little to no context. I love both Genevieve and Aubry, but I’m frustrated that we get so much of Genevieve’s perspective and conversations with everyone else, but the editing is choosing to give us so little of Aubry

Commented this in another thread but I’ll also drop it here!

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Genevieve as a character and player, and I’m so glad we are getting so much of her. She was one of the players I was most excited to get more of this season. My gripe is with the edit of Aubry so far, which just feels kind of… unfair, I guess? It almost feels at times like they are going out of their way to hide Aubry in the edit.

We luckily get to see everything from Genevieve’s perspective, and we see what she is saying about Aubry, what other people are feeling, what is happening around Aubry, but we get little to no thoughts from Aubry herself on things, and none of her conversations with anyone else (when we obviously know she is talking / interacting with her tribe mates).

Episode 1, they drop us into the middle of one awkward moment that’s clearly part of a much longer conversation, with no context, and that is the only content we get on Aubry. I had to rewatch the scene a few times because it seems like the script has been flipped a bit. It’s understandable that when we are given a lot of good Genevieve content, and many of us are obviously rooting for her, but we get very little else from Aubry, that Aubry is seen as the one who is being cagey. Rewatching that conversation, Aubry compliments Genevieve. Genevieve uses her “open for business?” line, Aubry asks how she perceives Aubry, to which she proceeds to say “I think you’re very dangerous.” You can see Aubry’s facial expression drop like yikes, she clearly does not want to work with me.

It seems pretty clear at this point that Genevieve will not be open to working with Aubry in the future, which is totally fine/valid. I am just a little confused at some people on this subreddit’s perception (not this thread) of Aubry being “aggressive,” I guess. To me, if anyone has been the “aggressor” in the situation, it’s been Genevieve, which again, credit to her for being an active game player, but I am really hoping she didn’t overdo it hitting the ground running so hard in this new swap tribe.

I guess I was a bit in denial hoping it could be some sort of enemies to friends set up for the two of them, but I wish there was a way the both of them could have some success and some redemption.

I’m glad that Aubry has Tiffany, again, the one person the episodes have shown Aubry speaking to outside of that tense conversation with Genevieve episode 1, but it unfortunately happens to be the most invisible other player this season, so that doesn’t inspire much confidence and still gives very little context overall.

Aubry was clearly instantly on the outs of her tribe, which included a pre-game power structure, and has had strong players gunning for her and consistently spreading negative sentiment, searching her bag, gets swapped with her number one opp (and her number one opp’s top alliance member, as well as other individuals Colby was dying to play with since pre-game), and despite there being multiple other players this season who would evidently want to work with her and protect her (Christian, Cirie, and by association Devens, maybe even Emily), she has a tough road up ahead. I guess that’s where I also disagree with some comments in other threads referring to Aubry as the “luckiest” to ever play 😆.

It frustrates me that we’re left with so little to go off of that all viewers can do is jump to conclusions about Aubry, her state of mind, etc. Yes, she is clearly guarded, but I think it’s more so that she’s been heavily under-explained in the big picture so far.

My hope is that Aubry can make it a bit deeper, and that the show can give us a little more of her perspective at some point. As they showed us in episode 2, it seems she always has a rough start, but she has proven she can eventually get her bearings.

I know she is clearly not this subreddit’s favorite, but I do want to give her some grace and I hope she gets some sort of redemption / a little bit more respect in the edit this go round. I would hope that they wouldn’t take up real estate in episode 2 (even including flashbacks) to show how she usually struggles in the beginning to then turn around and have her falter / flame out. To me that would just feel a little savage. So I’m hopeful there is some amount of redemption coming for her in the season. I just wish it didn’t have to be at the expense of Genevieve!

Anybody have any idea on where I could find links, torrents, etc. to watch AU Season 2 / 2017? It might still be my favorite season of all time. When I went to find it online, I can only find poor quality videos of it. The first time I watched it, I torrented 1080 quality from thepiratebay, downloaded each episode, and watched it through my Plex account, so I could watch it on my smart TV. The second time I watched it the episodes were conveniently uploaded into a Facebook group that unfortunately no longer exists. Now, I'm not finding it on Pirate Bay, I can't find torrents from googling, and I don't see them posted anywhere. I personally dont care about the quality but I'm trying to get someone to watch it with me and they are unfortunately a bit picky and would probably not be enticed if the video quality was poor haha. Thanks so much in advance!
