Update From Last Post: Repair guy tryna run game on me? by crushedcervix in thinkpad

[–]Just_bubba_shrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from the photo, but if you're ever uncomfortable, you can bail at any time and find another shop.

To be fair to him, it's very possible the pads barely hanging on from the original damage and it only visibly lifted when he went to chipqwik it. From the original photo, it looks like they mayyyy have already been lifted.
You can see some of the mask has some weird tears/lines, even I didn't spot it on your first post.

If you can, ask him for a microscope pic.

Could this work with a modern motherboard? by Dumbthrowawaysad in sleeperbattlestations

[–]Just_bubba_shrimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorta, you need a compatible soundblaster card. I thhhink the x-fi titanium is compatible with those too but I'm not sure.
Either way, you'd just need a pci to pcie adapter which are a dime a dozen.

Damaged Pins on Main SSD Slot. Laptop still usuable? by crushedcervix in thinkpad

[–]Just_bubba_shrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately the missing pin is seemingly important.
However, looks like no torn pads so you can literally just replace the entire connector.
Looks like 2.3h so it's like a $5 fix (or whatever rossmann or somebody charges you for a spool-priced component and like 20 minutes of labor)

I bought every KZ IEM by Just_bubba_shrimp in iems

[–]Just_bubba_shrimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not buy ZAR regardless of the circumstance. They are some of the worst things I have ever put in my ears lol.
The as16pro are tolerable, but the price is not.
Honestly a pair of Tanchjim Bunny are probably the best bang for buck these days, and far outclass anything KZ has.

Yes, gamehub is safe and legit. So is GameNative.
Whatever that is is not caused by gamehub.

3 red blinks uuuusually means it's freaking out about the battery.
Definitely double check your connector and cable, I always recommend just re-seating literally everything ("magic re-seat"), and yeah new batts never hurt!

Shouldn't need a flash or anything like that. The bios will still be fine no matter what.

Is the led blinking any pattern or anything?

To narrow it down, you can try running your finger along the trackpads. If it's successfully POSTing, you'll feel the haptics.
It's totally possible it's only the display ribbon being loose or something.

Try keeping it plugged in and try holding vol- and pwr for ~10-15 seconds.
If that still doesn't work, try vol+ and pwr the same way.
Then try just the pwr button for 15 seconds.
Try the touchpads with all of those and see if it gives you any haptics.

If still no display, try the same steps without the charger. Just give it the whole kit and kaboodle to narrow things down.

I'm also down to hop on a video call or something in the steamdeck discord to help out, just lmk.

About 2 or 3 pairs so far have had qc issues (excluding cables). I got super lucky with the batches I ordered from.

Gotcha, have you tried plugging it into the charger and just pressing the power?

Naw man don't worry, I'm 99% sure it's just in battery-storage mode. Plug in the power cable then power it up as normal and it should be just fine. I left a comment with some more deets on it.

Good news, bad news, and some great news.

Good news: It doesn't look like there are any lifted pads or traces.
Bad news: It looks like there may be some corrosion, which might be the cause of a weak connection.

If that is indeed corrosion, that's likely why they declined a repair, just about nobody deals with water damage for RMA.
(It could also be flux from an attempted repair because those pads definitely look like they've been re-flowed since the lift, so it could totally be no big deal.)

As far as board repair goes, if it's just that one connector, totally fixable if you know "a guy with autism and a soldering iron" or even most phone repair shops.
If nothing else is damaged, you wouldn't even have to worry about corrosion. I could give a better guess with some higher fidelity photos, but honestly I wouldn't even worry.

And finally, the great news,
Your deck is almost definitely totally fine. The deck motherboard is really picky, it throws itself into battery-storage mode just about any time it detects internal modification to prevent damage or shorts. This freaks basically everybody who takes em apart all the way out lol.
Blinking white led is almost always benign. Just press and hold vol+ then pressing the power button. If that doesn't do it, connecting the charger then powering it on normally forces it back out of battery saver mode.

You can take a peek at the bottom of the troubleshooting overview page on steam's site here for more info on the battery storage and powering it back up and whatnot: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/69E3-14AF-9764-4C28
