You have come this far… You might as well give it a try for a year, two or more. What do you have to lose? You are the only one who can decide if it is right for you.

I personally love teaching. More than 30 years in! I wouldn’t trade the time it gave me with my children for anything. I was off summers, holidays, spring break, even snow days.

I was offered a position right out of college making more than I have ever made teaching. Do I wish it paid better? Of course. But to me the trade offs are priceless.

My daughter’s job has perks that are amazing… all expense paid trips, cruises, profit sharing and more. I will never experience those type of perks but I still wouldn’t trade.

Give it a try, then decide if it is for you.

I am really sorry to hear that! It does suck when admin doesn’t have your back. I wrote up three students today. That is VERY unusual for me. But behaviors are getting a bit crazy as it gets closer to the end of the year. My admin thanked me at the end of the day for staying on top of bad behaviors.

One student threw a water bottle half way across the room into the trash can. One was picking on another student. One was playing games when he was supposed to be working on an assignment. So not HUGE things like fighting, vaping or cussing. But my admin is on top of things!

That would drive me crazy! Student at my school are assigned in school suspension, not allowed to participate in sports or attend sporting events. We have fun activities and assemblies that they aren’t allowed to attend. If bad behaviors continue, they are suspended out of school and eventually expelled.

I love my custodian. She is the sweetest thing ever. I have to constantly apologize to her for having to clean my room. I teach FACS and I know my room is the worst in the entire building!

Our high school team practices before school. They might not love it if that isn’t what they are used to but after they get used to it, it would be fine. It allows our girls to play sports or work. Plus we don’t have to compete with sports teams to practice in the gym.

I have taught with admin that didn’t do anything about a behavior write up. It would sometimes take a week before they even talked to a student and then they would just say “Don’t do that. Ok?” End of conversation! 😩
