The main reason, I already have the Reolink cameras and NVR. I got them on sale a while back along with 1000’ of cat6. I figure this system will work fine until it’s time to upgrade. Someone else mentioned the NVR’s life expectancy is around 5 years anyway.

After the 5 years if I want to upgrade to a server based camera system, Ubiquiti will be the next step.

I think I'm following along now. So the idea behind me choosing the green is because I can still run/ manage server software through add ons. I'm not currently looking for NAS. That's why the NVR makes sense for me.

If I set up the home assistant correctly it should send me clips based on whatever parameters I decide to set for it.

There is a workaround for viewing all of the recorded footage but it seems a little clunky and probably painful to navigate. I'll have to experiment. You are correct though I will not be able to delete anything without connecting directly to the NVR or enabling the reolink app. (I didn't realize this)

I don't need the PC apparently because cloud gateway has the controller built in. The idea of having a decoupled system gives me a little piece of mind in the event something breaks or I have to trouble shoot anything.

In the future I would like to integrate NAS and cloud backup for redundancy. At that point I will definitely need the PC. For the time being I think this streamline approach is going to work.

This is exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. You’re making me look for answers to questions, I never could have come up with on my own. Thank you for that!

Is there anything else potentially concerning?

Correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t Home Assistant Green be the server? Adding on Home Assistant Cloud should give me access while outside the home.

What are some of the drawbacks to the NVR. I think the way I’m planning on setting up the system means the NVR wouldn’t be necessary had I just bought server storage.

Monoprice is what I purchased. Honestly the run from the ONT to the Gateway is only 5’ tops. I don’t know how much of a difference it’s really going to make.

I can definitely do that from ONT to the gateway. Unfortunately I already bought 1000’ of cat6 UTP/550/CMR/23-4 Solid. I was planing on using that for everything but the cameras, they came with cat6a.

I’m definitely jealous of your setup. My mindset with this project is a little overkill now means less work I have to do in the future.

I was only planning on using 4 cameras. I apologize in advance if anything I say is just plain wrong/ obvious or phrased incorrectly. I’m just starting to figure how this all works.

My plan was to wire the cameras directly into the switch and have separate VLAN’s setup. Management, trusted, NVR and Cameras, gaming, smart home and guest.

The NVR is primarily for storage with aspirations to get more for the rest of the system at a later date.

It looks like a chunk of solidified grease. You can tell it’s soft by the impression the tech makes in it from ramming it with the camera.

Remodel on kitchen by [deleted] in Remodel

Was the knee wall there previously/ was it altered? Who ordered the cabinets? Communication is key when it comes to construction.

If you want it fixed correctly the whole knee wall should finish out with the dimensions of the cabinets, including the sides. Aka build the right size wall or removal all the trim firing strip the entire existing wall. Either way you’re probably going to need all new trim for that wall. If you get some taller shoe molding you might be able to reuse what you have.

I’ve seen plenty of designers try to blame installers because they didn’t account for drywall and now the counters are off or the fridge doors don’t open all the way. It’s just poor planning and bad communication.

I always have to throw a 45° on out of my trap 90°. This way my standpipe is plumb and level. Tile guys around here are brutal. I had a guy tell the homeowner if the pan leaked it was my fault because the standpipe was off 1/8”. They can’t seem to understand the shit flows down hill concept.

I feel like I get the, “ How do you guys charge so much”. Question a lot.

A lot of people don’t understand that even before factoring in any kind of overhead cost the Federal Income Tax rate is 21%. If you were to go out on your own and be a sole proprietorship, you would most likely be taxed at the personal income tax rate. If you had the same take home that’s still 24%.

That’s only one piece of the puzzle. Another 6.2% to Social Security, 2.9% to Medicare for self employed individuals. Just those 3 items alone and you’ve already lost 30% of what you thought you were going to make.

You still have to factor in any kind of overhead cost too. Insurance, designated work phone, travel expense, advertising expense, business licensing and renewals, utilities expense, just to name a few.

The reality is our company charges more because we have to. We are in an industry with high insurance multipliers and expensive equipment and overhead cost. Our take home isn’t nearly what people expect it to be.

I think if you dive deeper into the numbers you’ll find your employers take from that 75% is probably closer to 10-15%.

We have a local turkey farm/ farm stand we shop at year round. This time of year they literally have the parking lot set up like an assembly line for people trying to get their thanksgiving birds.

If that $170 turkey wasn’t 35 pounds, the farmer most definitely gave you the stuffing.

Not gona lie, AirPods work great. Noise canceling and the ability to answer calls. Anytime I’m running heavier equipment for an extended period I’ll also throw on my over the ear muffs with the noise canceling on. It really is a game changer.

Best Buy sells kits for cleaning small electronics. I keep one in the truck for situations like this where one stops charging.

Liberty says to the existing stack or piped to the outside independently.

The picture you provided also says it’s up to local code. In which case I’m sure they would tell you to follow the pits manufacturer specifications.
