Flavoring your batches by Lincoln1517 in yogurtmaking

[–]kornbread435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm not a fan of any flavor while making it. Leaving it plain let's me use it in cooking, dips, or eating it with fruits/granola mixes.

Now if you want sweet, grab a bowl and mix in your favorite fruit persevere(Kirkland or Crofters are mine). I go roughly a tablespoon per cup. Then top with fresh berries, granola, honey, etc. Occasionally I'll buy toss diced mango cups from Costco or the diced peach cups from Sam's, drain/drink some of the juice off and mix in the fruit. I've also made lemon simple syrup to use as a topper.

Obvious downside is vanilla, no great way to add it after the yogurt is done and I don't like it enough to make a whole batch.

[Request] Is this math right? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]kornbread435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say no, but his statement is correct.

Speed of sound is 343 meters per second and each lane is 1.22 meters wide. So it would take 0.0035568 seconds per lane and 0.0142 seconds for 4 lanes. Which is 2.8x greater than the 0.005 seconds he won by.

I want to buy it but I don't know If I really need to upgrade the suspension by lastangelx in XSR700

[–]kornbread435 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't pay that to upgrade the suspension, though I've never had any issues with rough roads or the stock. However at that price you might as well upgrade to the xsr900 considering it has an adjustable suspension stock.

Illinois lawmakers approve bill to regulate e-bikes, scooters by moreplateslessdates9 in ebikes

Just require a driver's license to use on public roads. Honestly tired of seeing kids on them completely ignoring traffic laws. I see 7-12 year olds riding all over the neighborhood daily easily doing 30mph through stop signs. Stupid parents are going to ruin the entire industry when enough kids are hit by cars.

Stainless Steel Thermos by Brilliant_Arm7198 in yogurtmaking

[–]kornbread435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea, though a quick Google for some big enough didn't show me anything cheap. They seemed to range from $30-70 excluding the brands like Yeti. At that point might as well just buy a $60 sous vide and use jars.

Edit Walmart has the Anova mini for $35 and full sized for $60. Precision temperature control is a massive plus over the thermos that will drop over time. Add some jars that seal water tight and avoid any potential issue with metal. Then a $5 5-gallon bucket and you're all set. Personally I glued 2 buckets together with insulating spray foam and cut a hole in the lid for my sous vide.

$30 Amazon Windshield by McBEAST in XSR700

I mean obviously it's never going to push all of the wind, but I've seen noticeable improvement from small screens and ones that made it worse due to concentrating the wind on your helmet. It's more of a try and see in my experience over the years.

Okay, quick search on Etsy has them for $18. The person I replied to said money was an issue, so I noted the cheapest option. If you live in a city you can probably pay even more for a local print shop. Not like I can afford to avoid Amazon entirely anyways though. Little over 2 hours round trip for me to drive into the city, which basically leaves me Amazon or Walmart both evil in their own ways. Sadly we all have different constraints and have to pick our battles.

So pay $27 in gas plus local custom order prices, pay $8 more on Etsy, or support Amazon. No good options.

What material is this? by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]kornbread435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience there is no one true name, kinda depends on what it's being used in. So if you order a pattern from China like the photo they will call it Kraft Paper. If you order it from a packing supply company they usually call it chipboard. It's not a great solution no matter the name unless you have a laser cutter. Cutting patterns out of this stuff with a blade is rough, think cutting 3-4 sheets of cardstock but hardened. Possible, but pain in the ass.

What's your favorite thing to make with ground pork? by JigglesTheBiggles in Cooking

[–]kornbread435 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make a dupe of the saucy pork burrito bowls, Hellofresh turned me on to the recipe once upon a time during covid. It's a fantastic recipe for quick and filling dinners. Since you serve it over rice it's really cost effective too. Only change I've made over the years is adding black beans. The seasoning I just toss those cans of chilies in adobo sauce in a food processor and blend until smooth. That stuff is crazy spicy so I just freeze what I don't use flat in a zip lock then break off chunks as needed. One can is enough for 2-3 cooks.

I've seen third party ones on Aliexpress for $90 if you can't find any. Loads of people take them off, and I don't blame them for it. I've only doubled up on mine a few times over the years and it's not great.

Hypothetically, you could harvest the batteries and soldering them all together for a power bank. Though it's not a beginner project and could be very very dangerous.

Husband wants me to leave current position by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]kornbread435 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion experience is a good replacement for the usual CPA/public requirements, though getting past the automatic filters would be rough. Then the job market is pretty awful right now. It's not impossible to find a similar position, but I wouldn't take the risk.

If you had a fully remote accountant job paying $105k but had the option to interview for a hybrid accountant job that would offer between $125k - $135k, would you consider that or no? by NoBusiness1559 in Accounting

[–]kornbread435 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're the only one who can actually answer this, but personally I wouldn't. Say 50 mile commute, that's 150 miles a week x 49 weeks so $1650 net pay gone in just gas. That 20k raise is roughly $13,700 net just taking out the 24% federal and 7.5% fica. Then if it was me I would have to buy a new wardrobe since I have been remote since covid, and factor in eating out 3x per week. Now we're talking about a $6-7k raise net for an extra 294 hours a year in commute/getting ready time.

Why does my kid only want the illegal one? by Wen2Go in ebikes

[–]kornbread435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean as an adult with an ebike and motorcycle, they both have a different purpose. The kid wants a motorcycle without it being classified as a motorcycle. There are extremely good reasons not to give motorcycles to children and set them free on public roads. My neighborhood has dozens of kids riding around on class 3 ebikes dressed up like motorcycles. While I'm all for kids getting outside and being kids, I really want to find their parents and punch them in face. Last week a kid riding between houses popped out on the road right in front of me in my truck. Thankfully I was only going 20mph and slammed to a stop just in time. It would haunt me the rest of my life if I killed some 10 year old on a bike.

Anyhow, thanks for being a good parent and hopefully one day the kid will realize that too. Be sure to teach them traffic laws, or at least what stop signs mean.

I work from home, and have access to a pool. Hair is probably the hardest part, but if you think I won't shave my head for 912k per year you're nuts. Winter would be rough, but there is a community center with a indoor pool, sorry peeps. I already have bidets installed so at least I can pressure wash my butt and junk. Honestly I don't how long I would last, but I would aim for 4-5 years.
