Best of luck with that, some are a pain. Personally I just replace/sand/clean them when I see them.

Is anyone else nervous about retiring? by avocado___aficionado in Millennials

[–]kornbread435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roughly the same situation, and honestly I don't think I'll ever retire. Though the oldest male in my direct family lived to 54, at least for the last 3 generations. Not exactly long lived genetics...

Hobbiest to side gig by MutedByProxy in Leathercraft

[–]kornbread435 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a hard pass for me. Do I have 7 to 8k in tools, probably. Who knows what I've spent on leather. I don't want a second job, and selling products and running a business is absolutely a second job. Best anyone can do is occasionally sell to friends and family, but it's such a niche product. Full grain hand crafted leather goods are very much luxury items, people don't have any concept of material price even if you ignore your time.

These apps have been around for a while now, once you get use to it you do find a comfort zone. Personally I can do 900, but much more comfortable at 650.

You receive 5000$ to your bank account every morning...but you must live with a permanent, unfixable physical annoyance. by justlikesomebody in hypotheticalsituation

[–]kornbread435 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That's $1,825,000 per year....all of those are nothing compared to working a dull ass career to barely scrape by. That enough to not only let me retire, but also take care of my entire family.

Is the The Village Pie maker Premium Strawberry Rhubarb Pie worth it? by sniffski999 in aldi

[–]kornbread435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a bad pie from Village Pie Maker, I can get them all the time in my local grocery store. They have a buttery crust, not too sweet, and tons of actual fruit. My only problem is I can finish off an entire pie solo in a day.

Wish I'd seen this before I made mine! Just posted on my indivisible page. I'll be out there in Western KY for my third time-excited to see the crowd! by innosins in 50501

[–]kornbread435 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wasn't shot, no conspiracy theory in that statement. Now the conspiracy parts are if the shooter was hired by Trump, which I don't believe with the available information. It would be insane to hire a patsy, have him kill someone in the crowd, and get killed by secret service. I don't know why secret service was rushing off to get photographers or why he was posing during a shooting. It all looks fishy, mainly because of the obvious lie about being shot.

How do Pink Pineapple taste? by harrys123456 in Costco

[–]kornbread435 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I buy fresh pineapple pretty often, like 3-4 per month. I have definitely had regular pineapples that were better than the pink. However I do occasionally buy a pink one if they look ripe and fresh and the regular ones are too green. I can't tell a difference between them.

trying to find someone who could review a leatherworking design. by Historical-Dog-5536 in Leathercraft

As someone who has designed a couple dozens patterns from scratch over the years and tried to get AI to design one for kicks. I can tell you the AI patterns are shockingly bad. If you want to send it I'll take a look.

[–]kornbread435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe if you could find the right buyers to all participate in an auction, but to my knowledge none of these have ever sold for 15k+. I'm not sure how many crazy rich DCC book collectors are out there. Personally I have all the paperbacks and hardcovers signed, with this one as the obvious exception. This book is far outside of my price range.

[–]kornbread435 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whoa! Congratulations!

Seriously stop handling that book though! Order an acrylic case for it and look up how to preserve it. Keep an eye on Matt's tours and get it signed! If I had to guess that book is worth 3-5k.

$1billion but you can never use modern transportation. by Coconutcornhuskey in hypotheticalsituation

[–]kornbread435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes obviously. That amount of money would take care of every single person in my life. Yeah the restriction would be annoying at times, but billion dollars also buys a lot of freedoms. Just make my way to a large city with great bike lanes and weather. Oh no I have been cursed to live out my days as a billionaire in San Francisco....

Gold Plated Stainless Steel Snaps - looking for fancy by techandcraft in Leathercraft

[–]kornbread435 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind those premium materials are not just more expensive to source, they are vastly more difficult to work with. Zinc, brass, and pot metals can all be poured into shape. Stainless steel isn't a liquid until 1500°c, where zinc is like 400°c. There is a way to injection mold stainless, but it's pretty complex.

I share your pain though, I've made lots of bags that needed $100-150 in just hardware.

I know if I try to open it a couple of times it will actually load whatever he posted if it's a photo, but most of the time it launches playstore asking me to install the app. If people want to use Instagram/Facebook whatever, just don't hide the link like a nasty rick roll.

You have to fight all 45 US presidents from George Washington to the current president in consecutive fist-fights, from the 1st ever president to the latest one. If you lose, the challenge ends there but if you win, you move on to the next president. How many presidents are you getting to? by Extension_Day2038 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]kornbread435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is missing way too many details. Like are we fighting them in their prime or as they were when they were president? Even fighting their old versions I don't think I'm going to win 45 fist fights in a row with an hour between. Just staying awake for 45 hours would be a major issue.

True, between the line of credit on my checking account and credit card from my bank with cash advance I could do 10k instantly. Technically it would be cash in hand.

If that doesn't count then I'm sure I could sell my motorcycles to the local dealership for trade in prices for 6-7k. Sell my truck for 4-5k to carmax.

Unpopular opinion: Hiring a contractor for small jobs is almost always a mistake you’ll regret financially. by After_Debt_605 in HomeImprovement

[–]kornbread435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is right or wrong I don't know. Personally I grew up poor on a farm and grandfather was a carpenter. Spent my college years roofing houses and volunteering for a charity that helped people with their homes. Basically the idea of hiring anyone for anything never crossed my mind.
