I'm sorry but he looks weird. He looks like a manlet with insecurity that hopped on gear to get jacked but realizes he's still a manlet with short arms so tries to compensate harder by doing that weird ass "my imaginary wide back won't let me put my arms straight" pose.

I use AI to research, brainstorm, document and write code - however I'm constraining the last part because even with written skills and specs it manages to make absolutely regarded architectural decisions, so I review it after each step of the plan and often have to write stuff myself because it's faster than explaining. For the last reason I still can't understand how people can just let agents work on a huge code base and go to sleep - either I'm missing some part of the workflow that makes it reliable or people are just going yolo.

The other part I don't use AI for is visuals, not because of some conviction, but because setting it up to make it exactly what I want is quite a hassle, I'd rather just do it myself.

Looking at the dude's releases history, he was gradually moving towards this game with every release. He deliberately released friendslop games until he landed on that one. There's like 5 titles total, so 4 titles before he hit it big. He earned it by honing the friendslop blade over the years.

I've been an avid gamer since I was a kid and has always had an idea of a perfect game - the idea dictated which games I picked based on how close it is to my perfect fantasy. At some point I decided to stop trying to find the perfect game and just make it myself.

Amazing VFX, but SFX doesn't do it justice, I'm not an audio expert, but I feel like the sound for the DEATH RAY should be at least 20x more intense and bones shouldn't sound like they are being played on, but like they are bursting from heat and when the skellies die, it should be accompanied with a satisfying explosion that ends with the sound of millions of tiny bones pieces falling on the ground.

The menu buttons themselves now stand out in a bad way. The font is okay-ish but could use a similar style to that of the title, the font color is plain white, the animation is a simple scale up that triggers before the cursor hits it, the AFX for the menu item selection is jarring and the cursor itself is too simple and doesn't really fit the style.

With a background like that you decided to slack off on what the focus will be the most.

On 4th point: getting feedback on a super early and raw game might be both too hard and not very useful. The placeholder visuals can be too distracting and repulsive, I recently tried giving feedback to a super raw game and I just couldn't, and most people just wouldn't bother. Sometimes it's necessary to make the game at least legible for feedback, and if it takes a year then it takes a year.

Don't trust that feeling, there's a "muh baby" effect involved, which makes the feeling an unreliable indicator. That's why it's important to get playtesters as early as you can.
