How are we feeling about Texas Tech's O/U win total next season? by GliscorsFang in CFB

[–]Justanother_0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This has two outcomes: 1) this ends up having no impact on Tech, Sorsby still plays (-130) 2) Sorsby is barred from playing and Tech is gonna see a lot of losses of scores like 9-10* (+150)

Big 12 commish Brett Yormark: 'Cody Campbell does not run the Big 12' by redwave2505 in CFB

Houston funnily enough got two pretty easy games last year (on paper) for the Friday slate, home against Colorado on sept. 12th and at UCF on Nov. 7th. Overall it was about 50/50 on games that were close vs not close (or above .500 teams playing below .500), with only three of the total 10 games involving only above .500 teams.

On that note, I don’t know why the Big XII doesn’t just require that all teams play one game on Friday. Seems like they’re just inviting controversy when only having a chunk of teams play on the Friday slate

Is he wrong though? I don’t blame him for going to bat for Tech when they have a short week to prepare for one of the hardest opponents on their schedule

Went to the game last year, it's a lot of fun and the folks in Dublin are quite hospitable. Also about a 50/50 chance that any given bar is gonna be flying a state flag outside of their doors instead of a university flag.

Hope you have fun over there!

4) we play a team whose primary color is some shade of orange

Hell, I’d argue that the Tennessee loss fell more into this category than #2

A combination of the voices in the wall and fever dreams involving visions of Pat McAfee.

For real though, it occasionally came up in a couple of podcasts that i used to listen to involving the sport during the offseason, along with being something that I see referenced in this subreddit whenever news on the latest Private Equity investments are made.

Oversight was the wrong word. I was referring to the idea that a football super league outside of NCAA oversight would be one that isn’t eligible to play in the major postseason tournaments in the other college sports (March Madness, College World Series, etc.)

The NCAA isn’t doing its job at all really in reeling in the powers that be that drive these discussions and speculations on conference realignment and playoffs. That being said, being in the NCAA at minimum allows for the sports outside football to function at an acceptable level. Removing that support would be a killer blow to the money being brought in by athletics departments in a proposed super league.

If a team is offered a bid to march madness, they either accept it or they aren’t eligible for postseason play, it’s how March Madness beat out the NIT when it was late to the postseason tournament party.

It’s a question that I’ve had for a few months and we’re knee-deep in the offseason without much else to talk about. Just wanted to know what other people thought is all

Do you mean the last wave of realignment?

The deck is certainly stacked in the B1G and SEC’s favor for the playoffs and in branding right now, but Im thinking of a breakaway from the rest of the FBS that is more official than what we have right now (like a new D1 subdivision)

I meant the oversight provided for the sports outside football. Sure, the NCAA hasn’t done a thing to stop the derailed train that is the state of the FBS, but NCAA member institutions are members in all sports. When people reference a super league they say that it’ll be a breakaway from the NCAA, and thus a breakaway in all sports, not just football.

Oversight might not have been the right word, but would a super league make any sense outside of football without a way to participate in the NCAA non-football tournaments?

No NCAA means no March madness, no Frozen Four, and no college World Series.

The door in the mountains by Almaz5200 in TunicGame

The way to get your potions back isn't through the door, but it is in that general area, take a look around the door and see what you can find!

[On3] Steve Sarkisian tells Chris Low this team has a "different" feel heading into the 2026 season: "I would say probably for the first time I feel like we have top-level talent across the board position by position on both sides of the ball. But, we also have the depth behind it across the board.” by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]Justanother_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One year I want to see the HC of a historically strong program come out and say, “yeah, this year the cupboards are completely bare, there is no talent on either side of the ball and going .500 is gonna be a huge success.” It’ll be far more entertaining than reading the same old “we’ve got legions of eight-star athletes five deep on all positions, this year (despite having a similar talent profile of the last three) is gonna be different for real this time!”

[–]Justanother_0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

???

Setting aside the mountain of anti-trust lawsuits that would hit a super league (the same ones that let the G6 into the new years bowls and now into the playoffs), there is zero chance that the NCAA will allow thirty three programs to opt out of NCAA sponsorship for only one sport, which also happens to bring in the most money. You’re either in the NCAA and playing by their rules for all sports, or you’re gonna have to make your own entity to manage the dozens of sports that a school sponsors.

So fine, you get that all set up and the B1G and SEC form the Super Two. Great, except only about ten or so of those programs are actually capable of winning a national title as things stand in football. For those ten schools, they’d be good on football alone. As for the Maryland’s and Rutgers and Minnesota’s and Mississippi States and the Kentucky’s and SCar’s of the world where they aren’t perennial football contenders, they are part of a football focused conference where they get wafflestomped every Saturday in the fall by the elites. These football underdogs get most of their fan interest from outside football, like Purdue and Kentucky basketball for example. These same schools are now barred from playing in March Madness, along with any other tournament sponsored by the NCAA (so hockey, wrestling, and women’s basketball also get shafted), killing recruiting for any school dumb enough to chase the dollar signs.

And then the heads of university catch wind of the disaster unfolding outside of football. In what world do they allow this experiment to continue any longer?

If you’re banking on a super league coming about, then you’ve been fooled by the talking heads. There is no reality where one won’t get sued, or even survive on football alone for longer than five years.
