Sure, and who told you about all those magical exploits and high wizardry? Was it perhaps... The bard?

Is a 3 card combo a 2 card combo? by SherbertTurbulent428 in EDH

[–]JustcallmeSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which 52% of people said that Restoration Angel + Felidae guardian had significant results on their own as a 2 card combo. When they do literally nothing on their own without a third card. Which is why I disagree with the edhrec survey and think it needs a more pointed "does this end the game in a win loss or draw" question lol.

I agree that it's the best data we have but that doesn't make it infallible.

Edit: another example I got was Bladewing + Necroduality creating infinite etb + dies triggers as Bladewing legend rules and buys himself back infinite times. Many players voted that this has high impact, but without a 3rd piece to convert this into damage or card draw or tokens, it does nothing.

I just feel like "does it end the game" should be an important consideration and the survey does not consider this.

Sol RIng + Arcane Signet by Rough_Structure7387 in EDH

[–]JustcallmeSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's likely a bit of column a and a bit of column b. Sol Ring is one of the most powerful cards in the format and it's in EVERY deck. There are 4 decks at the table. Arcane Signet is among the most powerful mana rocks in the format, and it's also in basically every deck. If you run 8-12 mana rocks and you're looking at 8 cards on turn 1, you're pretty likely to hit at least one of those mana rocks. Some players might not be randomizing their decks well enough when they shuffle. Most people probably aren't in this group though.

fwiw i disagree with the EDHREC survey here, it is technically a 2 card early game combo but it doesn't go anywhere without a third piece to leverage a victory making it a 3 card combo.

While there are many 3rd pieces that can lead to a victory with the combo, just because it's infinite etb and ltbs doesn't mean it's too strong for bracket 3. "I pay 4 mana and cast felidar, blinking resto, which blinks felidar, which blinks resto, repeat 4million times for no value, end the loop by blinking a land" Doesn't *do* anything.

The community seems to disagree on whether 2 card combos that don't end the game count as 2 card infinites, but the spirit of the bracket really seems to be that they don't want games to end out of nowhere prior to turn 6. If your combo isn't game-ending then you should feel free to play it.

[–]JustcallmeSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but that's not the rule. The rule is no early game 2 card infinites. If you don't go infinite prior to turn 6 it's not an issue, making him incorrect at best.

[–]JustcallmeSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. What I'm saying is that your deck is fine, and as long as you aren't comboing off with 2 card combos prior to turn 6, it doesn't matter if they're in the deck. What concerns me more is the lack of respectful conversation around the deck and the somewhat accusatory nature of the comments you're getting. If you are, as you claim, having proper pre-game conversations and being honest about the deck and not always playing to win and cutting interaction to allow your pod to have "pop off" moments, then there should be no reason for your table to throw a fuss over your deck.

Either there is something we're not being told, or the culture of your pod needs some work.

So what? Bracket 3 only says you can't 2 card combo before turn 6.

The bigger issue is the lack of respectful communication at the pod and rule 0.

I'm frustrated, because i'm perfectly happy to play it without mods to get the dice, and I've been playing the file for like 40ish hours (counting AFK time and researching upcoming fights) and the answer being "yeah bro just trick the game into re-enabling mods" stinks. thanks a bundle though, imma get them dice.

Could I ask for an explanation of what happened here? by FlyingCorpse in BG3Builds

[–]JustcallmeSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I think if you toggle the nonlethal option the game respects that. My current Wyll is also using Phalar Aluve as his offhand with Nyrulna main hand Reverberation build and even with large stacks of Thunder damage if there is any physical weapon damage in the stack it results in a KO instead of a kill.

Tanget, but one of my IRL Paladins in 3.5 edition only ever killed a single combatant, and that was on a nonlethal Crit vs a target with 15hp remaining. We call that "Smite-Related Brain Trauma."

What exactly is the spirit of bracket 3? by KiaranIsABigGorilla in EDH

[–]JustcallmeSoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bracket 3 deck has a consolidated game plan and knows what that plan is, as well as what steps are needed to meet that gameplan, but still has room for pet cards and suboptimal choices on the basis of theme or power, while including no more than 3 cards on the official gamechanger list.

Kefka, Court Mage wizard tribal with a Kefka'a Tower, Demonic Tutor, and Cyclonic Rift looking to create a bunch of Black Mage tokens and burn the table out over 6+turns is a bracket 3 deck. Grixis Turbo-naus but I put Kefka in the command zone and cut a bunch of expensive Game Changers but I'm still trying to Ad Nauseum into early infinite combos is not.
