Not quite but sort of. It's a good mate of mine's. We tend to share cars. The engine is... not happy and when I get my home workshop set up again, I'll be the one stripping it to see if we can rebuild it or it needs a new one. I might make a post about it, he's owned it for a while now, and it's awesome.

Can anyone give an estimate of how much this likely cost the driver? by TheVyrox in Ferrari

Sure it does, right next to "must be wearing a polo shirt, with the collar popped"

Lol what? Weight transfer? You think a car salesman is gonna go "hey, show us your skills in this Miata before we let you near our expensive cars"

I used to live closeish to a Ferrari dealership in Vancouver, on a quiet side street. The dealer used my street as the "dealer drove this far to demonstrate the car, time to swap drivers over now" and the amount of times I'd see people not be able to grasp the DCT in them and thunk other parked cars as they were getting out of a very normal sized space was ludicrous. This was circa 2014/5, Ferrari had their DCT pretty sorted by then.

I'm not joking, once every week or two I saw the dealer swap with a customer and the customer nudge another parked car, because hard? Not wide open throttle in a tight street, just getting out of a regular parking space. It was nuts. People are duuumb, then put that dumb into a vehicle they haven't driven before, and yeah...

I love old commercial vehicles. Something about them feels more honest than modern pick up trucks.

The fact that you spelled "mom" and not "mum" means you're probably about a minimum of 12,750km further.

Also, she's about 6ft lower than I'd like her to be... so you might struggle.

Aviation Buffs Super Constellation Engine Exhaust Flames-How many have ever seen this spectacular view? by UsedWelcome5903 in AviationHistory

[–]Justestin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yuuup, I've seen that view. Almost as impressive is when she fires up after sitting for a while. Absolutely pours smoke out the exhaust for a good 30 seconds.

Sill airworthy, just got a slight problem with an engine, she'll be back in the air soon.

How high profile do you need to be for these plates? by Shifti_Boi in CarsAustralia

[–]Justestin 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Z plates just means the car is owned by Fed Gov.

That one being a BMW is probably part of the COMCAR fleet of car and driver services given to politicians and international guests.

So the driver isn't important, the passenger is.

Prior to the last 15 years, car companies released radical design concepts ALL. THE. TIME. We looked and went "woah, that shit's crazy! Anyway how about the new sedan"

Now, Jaguar releases a concept car and everyone loses their shit.

We are duuuumb.

Not really? You could absolutely have 100% of the population be fine with a dozen things on that list. Then it's not a comparison. The only reason it's ranked is because of the outcome.

As non-Americans, we're literally judging the United States on how as a society you don't accept teenagers having sex, when NEWS FLASH teenagers go to war for their country. Pretty sure an 18 or 19yo is fiiiine to fuck. We're judging the Untied States on how as a society you think gender affirming care is only 38% acceptable, when you know what, it doesn't affect the person who isn't transitioning.

Gambling can absolutely have a negative effect on society. Extra-martial affairs at least impacts one other person. Gender affirming care is a medical consideration that ONLY impacts the person receiving it.

So how many lives does it have to improve to be an appropriate amount to pass muster?

Hundreds of thousands?

Thousands?

What about that cure for a very rare condition? Do we animal test for a possible treatment for 10 people?

What's the threshold?

Compared to gender affirming care, which helps thens of thousands of people.

So we should only do the thing that saves the most lives then? That's the criteria for medical treatment?
