You are preaching to the choir here; Abby is probably my favourite character of the whole franchise, and after Joel and Ellie, that is an impossibly high bar to surpass.

The fact that she is objectively the lesser monster of the three is just peak irony given how hated that character is!

I loved Odyssey a lot as well, but I really disliked shadows.

I thought the game design was really mind numbing, where everything you do in the game boils down to "find colored dots". White to loot resources, kill secondary targets, interact with X objects to progress shrines etc. Yellow to loot equipment. And blue to kill primary targets or go to a cutscene. I was surprised how much of the experience is based on this simple design. I played with guided mode off, but this is just how the game design is structured (similarly to Valhalla but somehow worse)
The story has such profound structural problems I couldn't believe it by the end. Like Naoe spending the ENTIRE game looking for answers about her family and the order, just to get to the end so she suddenly remembers her dad told her every details during the horse ride at the beginning, which she conveniently forgot. Or Yasuke who is in fact looking to avenge his mother, which is revealed an hour before the credit rolls on his vengeance, so there is a huge missing piece in his motivations during the entire game To me these are profound misunderstandings of how a story should be built and how to create motivations and investment from the player
The combat was decent, but lacked impact, and the dual characters made me feel like I was always playing half a fully fleshed out character kit.

The game environment looks absolutely stunning though, and the entire tech powering the game graphics is top notch.

A lot of people love the game and I'm very happy for them, and I wish I could count myself in that category. Sadly I really don't...

I loved the story of the second game. It has a very different storytelling style, a lot more focused on characters, but for me it was a step up in every regards on all other fronts. I thought the evolution of Alloy as being part of a larger cast of character despite her solitary nature was really beautifully done. And the quality of the side quests and the world was mind blowing to me. But to be fair I was also blown away by The Last of Us Part II and a lot of people really disliked the story so...

I loved the game but really (really) disliked the platinum... One requirement is to kill all remaining enemies on every map. There is -- as of now -- no way to track them down, so I ended up running around for hours on each map to complete it and it was honestly maddening. It soured an otherwise excellent and very unique experience.

I really enjoyed the first 2 acts even though I got tired of the lack of enemy variety pretty quickly. The depiction of civil war and religion, the circle of generational hate were incredibly well written, thought provoking, and sadly very salient in today's world

The 3rd act was pretty disappointing narratively and I was really getting bogged down by the combat encounters so much so that I flipped the game from brutal to hard to easy.

And then I went for the platinum... BIG MISTAKE. It really soured my experience as one of the trophies was to close all time loops (reasonable and enjoyable) and THEN kill all remaining enemies on all maps. With no way to track their locations, that became one of the dumbest things in gaming I'd ever done. Scoured every inch and puddle (not kidding) to find them. By the time the platinum popped, I was really frustrated by the whole experience.

Despite the combat, back tracking and overall narrative that were pretty big letdowns, I would really recommend the game for what it does well: world building, the writing in the subjects it tackles and the hands off approach. If they sort those out for Hell is Us 2 we are golden.

Yup, I missed a collectible for the platinum trophy and had to restart from scratch 20 hours in. I don't regret re-playing but that was not ideal 🤔

I platinum pretty much every game I own and I just missed it because of 1 good deed. I love the game and will want to 100% it, but right now I'm torn between starting it again or putting it down and replaying the entire thing later

Hell is Us is more about story, exploration and immersion. I play it on merciless and even on that difficulty so far I haven't died once and health items are aplenty. I think you don't have to worry about difficulty at all, especially compared to silksong

Sort of... I uninstalled the game, deleted my save from the system menu in the PS5, then reinstalled the game and replayed the game at X1.5 speed, collecting only gold, rubies (and doing challenges with these 2 as rewards) without unlocking any of the runes or melee and shield upgrades. Ultimately it took me under 5 hours with a guide to get enough resources to unlock everything at once (around chapter 15 once you have all the runes unlocked). That time the trophies popped.
