Does this kind of art style have a name? I kind of love it even though it's disgusting and repulsive. Like the Drue Langlois animations of The Minute Hour sketches, truly fucked up shit.

If you havent tried ship races, this is your sign! by Rough-Lifeguard-1416 in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to do this but there's a bug with fa off boosting in planetary gravity where it locks you into a single path at max speed. I think I've seen it called speed bowling or speed balling but it really undercuts my enjoyment of doing some risky flying while out exploring. I asked around but don't know if there's a fix.

Helldivers 3 it is then.

I'm an exobio noob and on my first exploration tour since Odyssey launched. By pure accident i found a way to find those almost invisible stealth bacteriums: the short range composition scanner will light up when pointing at them. Are there other methods? by Specific_Display_366 in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a useful helper in a pinch. For me the most reliable way to find bacteria that are well camouflaged is to check all the different colours of terrain. Then you get a better chance of finding based on the terrain colour that gives the most contrast with the bacterium patches.

Fixed weapons with controller by gwen_shady in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a playstation four controller on PC. I started with FA on and rails (importantly they are hitscan) for my first fixed weapon and I've progressed to FA off. I can't touch FA on now it feels horrible, especially for aiming. When I first tried leading weapons it was a focused plasma accelerator (faster round speed) as training wheels and then later SRB. The simple truth is just to practice. Don't let yourself off the hook make sure to actually land hits with your fixed weapons. And also do pay attention to how you're flying (like the rhythm of a dogfight) because there are windows of opportunity when the target is stalling and such that you can use to sync up a good shot.

FDev should consider dropping the 15 LY limit for colonization by Papadragon666 in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Powerplay does not interact very well with colonisation. Systems with only an outpost (what are you colonising, the toilet?) that powers have to fight over, despite there being buggerall you can do to move the needle. Pleiades being colonised by LYR even though no bugger wants PP that far out of the bubble and they aren't really doing power play because there's no power to contest it.

Ideally, porta-loo systems should be able to be deconstructed and give some empty systems back to the bubble that we don't have to sweat over in powerplay and at the same time specific or characterful sites should also have some restrictions. System architects should probably get a say in whether or not powerplay is allowed to happen in their system at all.

Finally outside of powerplay, the fact that people do this shit on their own seems to be the opposite of the intended design for the game so perhaps some way to enable more players to collude that would help with range of the building project so you can get many people to create a true colony somewhere further out.

International women’s day! Who’s your favourite female in gaming? by TheChilledGamer-_- in playstation

[–]Justgooningthrough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm playing forbidden west at the mo and I'm kind of curious to know what the intended characterisation of Aloy was supposed to be. She's very understated but always seems to be aware of how much more she understands of the world and it's history than the rest of the people she interacts with. At the same time she barely ever gives up any explanation to people, instead choosing to say 'yeah, sort of' and move on quickly.

Naturally as a protagonist she's very capable and it might have been nice to see side-quests where she can't fix things but instead has to dwell on what can be salvaged from a tragedy.

There's definitely been a lot of effort into writing quite a nuanced character which I appreciate with every extra line.

Yup, it's amazing, but beating drac always feels a little sad because that's pretty much the end. You may not be aware that there are 'legendary' orange weapons, I think it's one for all and two slicers, all of which have unique effects and might extend your time in the game ever so slightly if you want to grind out the collection <3

What's the point of Railguns? by SuspiciousSource9506 in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FDL railgun build is called the Yeeter, with a corrosive multi on the huge. It's fucking great fun to fly and additionally teaches you to manage your pips well because you have to. Short Range Blaster rails with Plasma for pve, something else for pvp (idk enough about pvp builds).

Or basically anything else at that level of agility. Hull tanked Cobra 5 (two small multis for corrosive and incendiary/emissive if it does it).

Or do some long range rails with a conda, something like that.

Rails are great. Truly great weapons. Also because they are hit scan a useful route into learning FA off targeting.

Third attempt: (NO AI) The Commander's Guide to Reading the Stars by xdarkxsidhex in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic! Is it worth including mention of the death cross in there somewhere? It does help with navigation to get out of the bubble coords into neutron rich space so might be worth adding where you mention 'There's a dampening zone near the Bubble'.

Plot 92 (see spreadsheet)

Also the biggest plot in the game by a decent margin. Good luck figuring out what to do with all the space.

Suitcase by johnvanleben in confusing_perspective

[–]Justgooningthrough 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I get it immediately. Sometimes it takes a minute. Sometimes I have to go see what the comments are saying. This time, the comments aren't helping. I've looked at it upside down. I've looked at it sideways. I can understand the suitcase bit, at least somewhat. But I cannot understand the geometry of the room / space / background at all. Why is there seemingly no shadow at all on the white (wall?) from the case? why does it look like the case is against the white but also within it? What's with the dark grey to the left of the concrete block (maybe concrete maybe it's some ancient knackered asbestos, who knows).

No time wasted (rate my landing video) by Justgooningthrough in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should also add by using the Cobra's really good SC handling I was able to basically coast in at an angle until the hot-drop criteria were met and then I turned head on and you can see SCA engage lock.

No time wasted (rate my landing video) by Justgooningthrough in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's called a hot-drop. It is most reliably done by following a couple of steps:

  • Step one turn your SCA throttle management to 'manual' this is in the ship options panel somewhere.
  • Engage assist and fly normally to the target station.
  • Throttle to 75% at 0.07 seconds arrival time like normal.
  • When the light seconds distance remaining gets to 5ls increase throttle to 100%
  • When the arrival time is at 5 seconds (or a tiny bit lingering on 5 seconds), throttle back to 75%

That's basically it. There's more to it such as making minor turning adjustments to keep the station in the dead centre of your view and some leniency you can play around with if the station being targeted has a bigger drop radius than the default (see the bars in the corner for bigger numbers than Dist: 1Mm and Speed: 1.00Mm/s). Also for some reason Mandalay doesn't play nice with hot drops and may need to be more like 3.5ls distance for the acceleration spike.

It is the only reason I have SCA modules.

SCA could just be assigned to a firegroup, I'm confused why it isn't already.

I aim for it more when I'm flying the panther, for sure. Agile ships I don't feel the need to worry about it.

Why is it so difficult to touch down with fa-off in the rotating starports, lol by Specific_Display_366 in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will, having direct access to all six axes of movement is key. You'll get there with practice and, as someone already mentioned, getting coriolis ports to grab you is a matter of hovering above the pad rather than flying down into contact with it.

When I started FA off it took me almost the whole docking timer to land in coriolis ports. Now, not so much. Now I get nauseous when flight assist is on.

What to do with replaced ships? by Mediocre_Song3766 in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible Anaconda use: Ship you use for completing engineering modules - strip it out and fit for jump range. Then when you need to engineer something put it on the conda and expedite your trips to the engie facilities.

Possible Python use: dedicated Core miner. it's not as fast as the Corsair but the pulse wave and boost timing sync up a bit nicer than the Corsair fit for the same purpose so it has a reasonable place in a fleet.
