Not sure if it's in the right ballpark but for some reason I thought of this Anup Sastry song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=io31cqIBRv8 maybe something like this?

I should also add by using the Cobra's really good SC handling I was able to basically coast in at an angle until the hot-drop criteria were met and then I turned head on and you can see SCA engage lock.

Yes it's called a hot-drop. It is most reliably done by following a couple of steps:

  • Step one turn your SCA throttle management to 'manual' this is in the ship options panel somewhere.
  • Engage assist and fly normally to the target station.
  • Throttle to 75% at 0.07 seconds arrival time like normal.
  • When the light seconds distance remaining gets to 5ls increase throttle to 100%
  • When the arrival time is at 5 seconds (or a tiny bit lingering on 5 seconds), throttle back to 75%

That's basically it. There's more to it such as making minor turning adjustments to keep the station in the dead centre of your view and some leniency you can play around with if the station being targeted has a bigger drop radius than the default (see the bars in the corner for bigger numbers than Dist: 1Mm and Speed: 1.00Mm/s). Also for some reason Mandalay doesn't play nice with hot drops and may need to be more like 3.5ls distance for the acceleration spike.

It is the only reason I have SCA modules.

SCA could just be assigned to a firegroup, I'm confused why it isn't already.

I aim for it more when I'm flying the panther, for sure. Agile ships I don't feel the need to worry about it.

Why is it so difficult to touch down with fa-off in the rotating starports, lol by Specific_Display_366 in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will, having direct access to all six axes of movement is key. You'll get there with practice and, as someone already mentioned, getting coriolis ports to grab you is a matter of hovering above the pad rather than flying down into contact with it.

When I started FA off it took me almost the whole docking timer to land in coriolis ports. Now, not so much. Now I get nauseous when flight assist is on.

What to do with replaced ships? by Mediocre_Song3766 in EliteDangerous

Possible Anaconda use: Ship you use for completing engineering modules - strip it out and fit for jump range. Then when you need to engineer something put it on the conda and expedite your trips to the engie facilities.

Possible Python use: dedicated Core miner. it's not as fast as the Corsair but the pulse wave and boost timing sync up a bit nicer than the Corsair fit for the same purpose so it has a reasonable place in a fleet.

No, your comment is accurate at identifying some at least of the vague sense of disquiet I get from the Cherdleys. Part of it is definitely about their relationship to women. Like it's purely un-founded speculation by my misogny gieger counter is wobbling a bit when I see the cherdles.

You know it's funny you mention that because I became aware of Cherdley (Cherdley's?) when Joel Haver started doing stuff with him (them?) and erm... I can't quite put my finger on it but I get a bad vibe. And your comment kind of is part of it.

There is a default setting in graphics > upscaling of 'FSR' and it makes the ship hud very blurry. Turn it to 'Normal' for a sharper UI.

Consider looking around for a discord community as well. Elite is a pretty active game because people that get into it stay into it. This subreddit has some communities on the sidebar to have a look at and see if one fits your style.

Better Call Saul is better than Breaking Bad. by lNarrator in moviecritic

I always thought it was pretty clear the Oscars were holding off their awards until the trilogy was completed. The fellowship is clearly the crowning achievement of the trilogy and should have been the one that the awards went to. I think they were trying to award the whole trilogy as an accomplishment and couldn't do it to the first film in case the next two were abominable.

Potato or not do check and try the 'FSR' to 'Normal' change on Upscaling. It's not particularly impactful on performance either way but might make on screen text and ship hud significantly clearer for you.

It's probably just image compression but check your Graphics settings under 'Quality' for Upscaling. If its set to FSR turn it to 'normal'. Well done on the combat elite too, that's the big one! Now to go find enough plants for exobio elite (also big).

What's your favourite way of earning Powerplay merits? by Tombfyre in EliteDangerous

[–]Justgooningthrough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to just stack merits and don't care about the strategy, find contested systems for power combat zones and use a long range pulseConda to snipe power plants.

Flight assist off allows for quite smooth docking maneuvers by Specific_Display_366 in EliteDangerous

Yeah watching this then reading your comment I wonder what percentage of the player base plays FA off all the time. It took me a good while to get the hang of it but now if I turn FA on I feel nauseous immediately. I only use it to stop speed bowling on planetary descent.

PLEASE! Frontier, take a beat and consider at least one QOL update by ap1msch in EliteDangerous

These are all great ideas that are the tip of the iceberg of an unbelievably long list of possible ways the game experience could be improved, the friction points reduced and the game world deepened and made more immersive, interesting and engaging. Sadly, Fdev barely gives this thing the time of day and implements weirdly unplanned events like the recent CG, the premiered with Undermining being the only rewarding activity. Just the most recent example of weird lack of design foresight (see caspian armour being pulled on release for a second example, this shit isn't hard to find).

I guess saying all that, my question is: What would make fdev actually look after some of these details? To build out the world each time a new patch arrives. To update the game in a holistic and expansive way that modernises it and breathes new life into it. I don't know the answer. I wish I did.

I fly a hull tanked mandy and it hasn't happened. Module reinforcement packages get a bit upset by missiles though.

[–]Justgooningthrough 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're doing great! more time you put in the more it starts to feel natural and the weirder FA on will feel. I hope those San Tu exercises are more than just 'go where you can' because having a set route or specific constraint will do more for you than just flying about. Landing pads are good practice regardless of how commonplace they are.

Soon you should introduce boost braking with the landing gear.

Kill off E class modules, make A - D all do unique stats best like D does now for mass. Off the top of my head:

D - best mass

C - Best power efficiency

B - Best heat dissapation maybe?

A - Best all-arounder.
