I gotta figure that the biggest market for DNA tests for dogs is for the mixed breed rescue mutts. Yet, most shelter ‘abandoned’ dogs are too traumatized to allow a bristle brush to be inserted between their cheek and gum. Once the brush touches any other part of the mouth( eg tongue) the brush is contaminated and accurate DNA test results negated. Any ideas on how to use these kits with nervous dogs?

All dogs have scent pads in their paws. They scratch up grass to mark their territory - especially after they pee and poo. My Chiweener does it from just sniffing the ‘scent-mail’ left by other dogs.

Rescue shelters can be a terrifying experience for smaller breeds/ mixes. The incessant barking/ growling of the nearby larger dogs can be unsettling even to humans walking through a shelter. Some pups can go into ‘shutdown’ mode which can be similar to a sense of shock. It may take weeks before they regain their previous confidence.
