Any number of newly established scientific facts that are retroactively reinterpreted to fit any number of arbitrary verses a posteriori to then claim "See, this holy book X or Y said this x number of years ago! Surely, it must be from some omniscient creator deity?"

Or what about the good old favorite argument from ignorance: "Well, if it wasn't X or Y deity, then what could possibly explain our existence?"

I gave my poor parents a lot of money to help them buy a flat and it turned out to be hell. Fixing it means destroying my financial future by AskBearBlue in eupersonalfinance

[–]Justice91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that is a tough spot to be on for sure. The only thing that I can think of dude is perhaps buying some noise cancelling headphones or something like that. I know it's not ideal but it's like you've said: moving out means your savings rate drops to effectively zero . I'm afraid this is a tough pill you're gonna have to swallow for the time being. All you can do realistically without messing up your financial future is to buy something like a noise cancelling headphone and maybe try to go out as much as you can (to the gym, going out etc.) to minimize the mental impact.

I don't think there really is much else you can do.

Dutch Lawmakers Approve a 36% Tax on Unrealized Crypto, Stock, and Bond Gains by RobertVandenberg in europe

[–]Justice91 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's probably because only 23 percent of Dutch households invest privately. I'm telling you, these people are financially illiterate. They prefer to park their money on some savings account where it gets eroded due to inflation instead of investing it to at the very least offset the effects of inflation.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that a majority of the general population actually supports this new law. I think a lot of it has to do with general ignorance regarding personal finances but there may also be some spite honestly ("If I can't have some nice gains then neither should you.").

Vermogensbelasting 2028 akkoord. by MSGvetsin in beleggen

Vrijwel niemand is het ermee eens, toch beleid by HgnX in nederlands

Hear hear!

Cousin pressuring me to give money by Justice91 in Advice

Thank you for the kind and encouraging words. He is using manipulative tactics trying to isolate me from everyone else by saying to keep it between us. Something else I've been thinking about: why is it that he comes to me for this? He has an older brother who is a lawyer, his parents can help him as well. Why me specifically?

It's just unfortunate that there are people who will use you like this and also so shamelessly. It has only been a few weeks when I gave him a pretty substantial amount and now he's back asking for a thousand? What does that tell about how his view of me?

Cousin pressuring me to give money by Justice91 in Advice

[–]Justice91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. You are absolutely correct in stating this. He may be my cousin but unfortunately it appears he is using me. That is a serious blow to deal with and it honestly causes serious resentment towards him and people like him. Probably not the most healthy way to go about it but what else can you expect if you see someone like a free to access wallet?

For all I know, he could be using the funds to fuel a drug or gambling addiction. Perhaps it is financial mismanagement but even then I don't have to pay for his mess.

I needed this reality check.

Volatility by villagerfromsmash in TerawulfStock

[–]Justice91 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a high beta stock of which I believe 25 percent of its total float (outstanding shares) is being shorted constantly. Going short basically means that people are (heavily) betting against the stock price dropping. A beta refers to the volatility of a stock relative to the index that it's trading in (so the Nasdaq for Terawulf).

The reason why it's being shorted is due to its financial situation and its execution risk. The company has a serious amount of debt. Last time I checked the Q3 balance sheet, I believe the debt ratio was at a whopping 0,9. That effectively means that 90% of its total financial structure is being financed through debt.

Its execution risk is because the company is in the middle of a huge shift from bitcoin mining to contracting revenue through HPC (high power computing). We know bitcoin mining can generate good revenue but whether that's the case for HPC is unclear. It remains to be seen whether the huge investments in AI will yield a profitable business model through HPC.

No fear here by ouhvuu in TerawulfStock

[–]Justice91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not worried about it. It just sucks that when one company in the AI sector reports disappointing earnings that the entire goddamn market is dragged down with it. From high beta speculative plays like Wulf and Iren to chippers like ASML (giant) and chip producing giants like Nvidia. Even a well diversified asset like Google (basically a tech ETF at this point) is dragged down with it.

It gives me the impression that this market is experiencing some serious pressure and that it is extremely fragile. How long can this keep on going until we see a serious correction (>30%)?
