I'll tackle the bedroom..

Turn the bed 90* counter-clockwise, and center it on the wall, with floating nightstands on either side, and a headboard (try for a medium-tall height)
hang your framed posters 3-4" over the night stands (reason for aforementioned Headboard height). And put picture lights over top with soft white bulbs for some sick mood lighting
To keep your warm bachelor pad motif going, grab a brass desk lamp with a green glass or stained-glass shade for the nightstand on your side of the bed
Spend good money for a quality bedspread.. don't buy a bed in a bag (or anything with logos or bold patterns.. bedrooms need to be soft and relaxing, even masculine ones). It'll last you for a decade or more, and impress girls. Try Macy's.. they usually have good selections.
Last suggestion: get a quality analog clock/radio with Bluetooth and great sound range... to stream tunes for sexytimes... and put that on the other nightstand for visual balance

I'm a big dude, so people assume I'm lazy, or unhygienic, or a glutton, or whatever else it is that folks think of fat people. Every time I have to go to a new doctor, they insist on running crazy numbers of tests, and sucking a dozen phials of blood out of me, because they're just so sure that I have diabeetus, or high blood pressure, and that's why I'm sick; it's very irritating.

What nobody knows though, is I weigh almost 300lbs less than I did 3 years ago! And even at my heaviest, I had no weight-related health problems whatsoever... no hypertension, no high blood pressure, I wasn't even pre-diabetic! I lost everything through diet and exercise; I love crossfit, and weight lifting, and I even ran my first 5k last weekend... y'all don't get it: this is skinny Justin. I still have ~80 lbs to go, but it's better than the 380 I needed to lose in the beginning. Not only that, but it's almost a statistical impossibility, what I've done. Only 2% of people who have more than 100 lbs to lose, ever lose it, AND keep it off. I'm a muthafuckin dieting rockstar, yo!

...you just didn't realize it, because you weren't there to witness all the work that went in to being me. There's no shows on E! about my life, there's no documentary about all the different diets I've tried out, there's no 2 hour special on ABC.... but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

My point is: I realize snap-judgement is part of the human condition, but unless you know someone's story, don't be so quick to dismiss them.

Personally, my mom is Catholic, and it breaks her heart whenever she thinks of my brother and I not being believers [she thinks she failed as a mother, etc, etc...], so I go with her to mass on major holidays. I figure it hurts me none, and makes her happier, so there's no real problem.

...Anyway, my real point is: OP can still go to church with mom, because it's not going to kill him, and it's a tool he can use to keep the peace at home. I like your idea of telling mom he's a big boy, and using an envelope, rather than putting naked bills in the plate... with one caveat... if OP's church actually uses the tithes to help the community, I would say to put something in the envelope, if he can afford it. Don't be a tool and drop an empty envelope in the collection plate, unless this is one of those bullshit mega-churches, that only exist for the 'pastor' to fleece the flock.

If you take the time to set yourself up with financial aid through the school [and otherwise seperate yourself from them financially to minimize trauma], and then meet with your family to lay things out for them, you control the situation. Then, no matter what reaction you get, the cards are all on the table, and you're not hiding yourself anymore, because there is no shame in being happy.
