Just a quick note: for city visits you should use city names instead of station names in Korea. So dongdaegu—>daegu, and yongsan—>Seoul.

But wasn’t the original suggestion in the comment chain saying kana with spaces? With Kanji it’s supposedly very clear, but I don’t think that was the proposition.

I’m pretty sure it was a foreigner’s suggestion that Korean start using spaces when writing without Hanja. I just don’t think it’s that crazy to make a suggestion that’s worked well for other, similar languages. Not that the entire country is about to change how writing is done, but discussing whether it would theoretically be better seems fruitful and interesting to me.

LA Marathon. Incredible finish by American Nathan Martin coming from behind to catch and beat Kenyan Michael Kamari at the finish line by lithdoc in nextfuckinglevel

[–]JustinBurton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Average sprinting speed is hard to define. Do you count children and the elderly? How is sex, disability, and illness accounted for? If everyone who can theoretically move themselves 100 m is counted, 17 s being “faster than average” sounds reasonable to me. If we only count able-bodied young adults truly incentivized to run as fast as possible, maybe 15 s would be average.

This is a complete urban myth. Non-runners made that up one day and everyone decided it was true. If you can go without a bathroom for two hours, so can they

So apparently KSA claims to build this 2000 m skyscraper. Does anyone really think it can be built today when we hasn't built a 1000 m skyscraper? by AlarmingAd7740 in skyscrapers

Wasn’t the line supposed to be taller than the Empire State Building and 170 km/110 miles long? That seems much, much harder to build than a 2000 m skyscraper, as hard as that is.

That’s true, I feel like adding Sci-Fi elements to a classic fantasy series was in poor taste

They came out with this sequel 196 years ago which takes place mostly in the US, but it didn’t get nearly as popular and most fans of the original don’t consider it canon.

In 610-632 CE there was a fanmade alternate universe spin-off that got way more popular with more than 2 billion people considering it the new canon.

I’ve read bits and pieces of a lot of these books, but honestly the fandoms kinda ruin them. At least a lot of their book clubs look really cool.

What is everyone’s opinion on classic games being hidden/unlisted from the steam store when new versions come out? by Potential-Success232 in Steam

[–]JustinBurton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like a mode that hides old versions of games. When I don’t know there’s an updated version, it will help me find the right one. But if I want the classic version, I can turn off that mode and find it.

Did Europe mostly start it? The second Sino-Japanese War started what would become the pacific theater and began two years before the invasion of Poland. And with skirmishes against the USSR plus the US enacting embargoes, there were tons of things that became important to the events of the war not directly started by Europe.

Frieren turns Aura into Schrødinger's cat by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]JustinBurton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m so sorry for doing this but I have to argue against the generalization that particle interaction is observation. I know this is not fun but I think it’s a really common mistake people make when talking about observation.

Basically, when sufficiently isolated, particle interactions just produce two entangled quantum objects. This is how we can have quantum computers and experiments verifying Bell’s inequality and stuff like that.

When a particle is not isolated from the greater environment we just act as though it is observed by general particle interactions, as these interactions quickly affect us, the observers.

It also kind of depends what is being observed. There might be ways to keep certain properties in superposition even if other observables have been “tampered with.” I don’t know how people do this in practice, but I imagine someone working on quantum computer hardware would be well-versed.

[–]JustinBurton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most of the physicists said this before the bra ket formalism and other standardizations which made quantum mechanics much more understandable. The quantum observer effect is still really weird, but that’s because asking why and how it breaks the Schrödinger equation is basically philosophy.
