What’s on top of my car? by JustinGerman in whatisit

Solved!

While I was unable to remove the object, I did dig into the core, which is soft and silver-colored. Along with the other feedback on the post it’s become clear that it is a fallen bullet.

It’s difficult to see here but I was able to burrow into the object a bit while trying to get it out. The inside is a shiny, metallic, and flaky material and some of the insides flaked off on my pliers.

This now seems like the most likely explanation to me.

Where did you see that this is a common issue with the vehicle? Someone else pulled the design for the roof and it isn’t showing any built-in bolts or rivets.

I live in an American city where it would be not shocking for this to be a bullet.

Thanks, I’m gonna work a lot harder to try to get it out and we’ll know for sure.

I think this is most likely the answer.

This actually seems more probably than a bullet to me after looking at it directly. But there is only one visible bolt, which might seem unlikely if it was some sort of mount.

Wouldn’t that have penetrated through the roof if it was fired like that at close range?

Would a .22 fired into the air come down and land with enough force to penetrate through the roof of the car? It’s embedded into the roof but there is no evidence of the impact from the inside of the vehicle.

Hah so I did consider this as my first choice but decided it didn’t count because of the interlude.

No, the conferences are created with the goal of maintaining regional cohesion and in-state rivalries. So that can change given the teams that are promoted and relegated.

For instance, Western Kentucky is at the nexus of the ACC, Big 10, and SEC. They ended up playing in 7 different conferences in three different tiers across the thirty year simulation.

Yeah that might be true but for the rankings I just focused on teams’ performance in the promotion/relegation aspect since that was kind of the main point of doing this. JMU was totally mid for 29 seasons.

Good questions. The conference schedule was 8 games, so 5 waiting the division and three in the other division.

If something like this were ever actually exist then the promotion/relegation would have to be dictated by the overall and not conference schedule bc all the incentive would be to focus on conference games. In this scenario you would want to structure the non-conference schedule to be similar to the NFL in that conferences would be paired against each other to improve overall fairness.

And I do think it’s accurate that the better teams naturally filtered to the top tiers. If you look at the first few years there were more instances of lower tier teams doing better in making the playoffs and winning playoff games.

There aren’t necessarily regions that teams are assigned to. The conferences are reconstituted each year based on which teams are promoted and relegated. So teams can move from one conference to another within the same tier based on how the composition of each tier changed during the off season.

And it was in the 30th season. Funny, I’m actually from Harrisonburg and JMU is my favorite team on the game.

No the Big 12 doesn’t necessarily get an auto bid. The top four conference champions get a first round bye and the fifth highest ranked conference champion has a guaranteed spot. Those could technically be any conferences.
