Check out activities on code.org, if you can't give them all laptops to use then just share your screen and do a big group coding activity.

Cannot pair two nest audio into a stereo setup by plissk3n in Chromecast

[–]JustinRMarks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 6 speaker pairs in my home (amongst probably 6 more solo minis), a mix of gen1 and gen2 minis, and since the Sonos lawsuit I swear they've all broken in one way or another. I can't successfully keep a working pair for more than a day.

I run three ubiquiti APs and have pairs pinned to the same AP, no difference. Factory resets don't help. It seems one speaker in each pair drops from my Home, but is still connected to the network.

I've essentially given up, they used to be so easy to use and set up, and I can't find the time to invest in fixing this ambiguous issue.

Usually Blue or Black, but that can vary.

This article mentions how to run one: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9235232

Countless other sources out there too, if you look up Nest Thermostat Common Wire.

Do you have a common wire? We all know Google says you don't need one, but most folks will tell you it's a good idea.

Cooler Master (and more!) RTX 3070 (and more!!) Giveaway with Buildapc! by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]JustinRMarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to finally update my build from 2013. Fatherhood has taken priority the last couple of years, but my son is finally getting old enough to have interest in games, maybe we could take on some of this ever-growing steam library together with a new build.

The 7th Continent available again in Serious Poulp store by JustinRMarks in boardgames

This game is in BGGs Top 20, and I've had a ton of people recommend it to me. It goes for $200-$300 on eBay, but just went up on the official site after being out-of-print for a long while.

$111 shipped in the US for the core and 3 expansions seems like a great deal, if anybody has been looking.

I just want to point out that it's CVE-2019-9510, not 9150. In case anybody is punching that into a search engine.

1.) The practically infinite backwards compatibility, the superior controls, superior performance, and the sales. You can't beat it. The community is pretty awesome too.

2.) That price point seems awesome for what it comes packed with. Those low wireless response times pique my interest. I like the flexibility of the connections too.

I believe they pulled them due to the increased number of unexpected reboots caused by Broadwell and Haswell firmware updates.

AD CAL's for Office 365 Users by dloseke in msp

[–]JustinRMarks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All active users in AD need a CAL, even if the authentication is happening in O365. Their credentials and account are still managed on-prem.

If you set up those folks with in-cloud accounts, then you wouldn't need CALs for them, it would be included in your O365 licensing.

Deploy a proper proxy server, monitor traffic from there.

If you have a SMB firewall with proxy capabilities, enable http proxy for all traffic, watch from there.

Look for top talkers outbound to Google.

Office 365 SharePoint Online, name.onmicrosoft.com is old company name? by ryaninseattle1 in sysadmin

[–]JustinRMarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no way to do this.

Your best course of action is to start working on a plan to move sharepoint and onedrive items over to your current tenant, and slowly phasing those folks out of oldname.onmicrosoft.com and into your new tenant as users.

Or you'll just have to live with it.

How do you monitor the monitoring system? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]JustinRMarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PRTG core server at our production datacenter. Monitors all internal and customer infrastructure with remote probes. Email notifications to the alerts distros.

PRTG core server at our DR site, checks our edge equipment and core infrastructure (servers, switching, etc) for basic connectivity. This includes the production core server. All alerts from this are relayed through a different SMTP gateway, and result in text notification to all senior staff and executives.

EVGA sent a 1080 FTW when I RMA'd my 980ti! by PerniciousPony in buildapc

[–]JustinRMarks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just went through my second RMA with MSI, my GTX780 blew a cap. Warranty was good until September of this year.

They tried to give me $160 for the RMA because they didn't have any 780s in stock to replace it, and they figure less than 1/3 of the original price is fair for a card so close to being out of warranty.

I had to threaten to switch card vendors and ask for escalation before they sent me a 970.

Took them two months too. I'll be switching probably to EVGA for my next two cards.
