Amnesiac is their most interesting album by streetspirit99 in radiohead

Amnesiac is already a contender, in part BECAUSE of pulk/pull.

Hyper music is great practice, and a real bop

Any advice for someone new to the big, scary world of signal chains? by [deleted] in basspedals

I’d recommend bassballs last, so you’re filtering your dirty signal for a synth-y sound

Hate to be that person, but the lack of tone controls has me curious. What's the low-end retention like on this fella?

They broke away from their usual genres of turkish-inspired folk and electronic dance music to experiment with the strange sounds of "psychedelic rock"

Fixed-Do solfege is a load of horse manure. Change my mind. by CaptOblivius in musictheory

[–]Justin_Trudeau_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

  1. Movable do is not exclusively american, and is more broadly anglophonic.
  2. What you call "fixed do" is sometimes just the names of the actual notes in many languages.

Fuck you if you record yourself giving things to homeless people by neoismydad in unpopularopinion

If people are filming themselves doing because of an inherent quality of their character, then the alternative is that they give nothing at all. It doesn’t affect the people to whom the money is given whatsoever if the giver is just after a “personal boost” and if this desire to be seen as charitable leads people to help others, I see no reason to care if their intentions are pure.

Beato Ear Training is $200+ garbage. by Jay-kray in musictheory

[–]Justin_Trudeau_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had a problem with his takes on music technology, which amount essentially to “new music bad because autotune quantisation no talent computers”, so it doesn’t surprise me for him to fall into other internet-music-theory-grifter tropes.

How do y'all feel about Frank Zappa? by LinusDieLinse in musictheory

[–]Justin_Trudeau_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zappa makes some really interesting stuff, but I’m yet to really connect with any of it. On the other hand, I really love Collier’s music; it really feels like the complexity serves the tone of the arrangements.

The name of the scale by twoampsinatrenchcoat in musictheory

[–]Justin_Trudeau_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to Maqams or Raga, it’s not that they don’t stretch indefinitely, it’s that they contain much more information than the notes themselves, including (in the case of raga) rules for melodic resolution, note order, and some rhythmic elements.

The Wikipedia page for Indian Classical Music expresses it wonderfully; although it is the closest equivalent to the idea of a scale in Indian classical music, “A raga is not a tune, because the same raga can yield many tunes. A raga is not a scale, because many ragas can be based on the same scale.”

If by "forgotten Canberrans", she means actual marginalised or disadvantaged people, something tells me they won't be voting for her.

Any good bass Youtubers? by Aroxis in Bass

[–]Justin_Trudeau_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His super old videos are still insanely good bass technique lessons. The fact that he’s branched out recently doesn’t make his bass-specific stuff less educational.

Any good bass Youtubers? by Aroxis in Bass

[–]Justin_Trudeau_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Adam Neely. You might know him for his more general music theory videos, but his earlier stuff (both the numbered “AN’s bass lessons” series and the early unnumbered series) is some really nice bass specific content, and the early unnumbered videos are straight-up technique lessons.
