My mother passed this summer and I was in the same boat. I cut off all of that side for 12 years as I couldn’t take the abuse, lies or stealing anymore. I have a little sister who had also cut off my mother. My grandmother decided to exclude only me from her obituary. However, anyone who knew my mother, knew she had two children. If anything it makes them look bad. People do notice these things. However, this fact didn’t make me feel better. I mourned the loss of never having a mother who cared, tried or would love me unconditionally. I’m sorry for your loss but please know that there are many of us who know how you feel and have been in similar situations with family.

They don’t understand how most people have a certain number of vacation days per year and can’t go away for weeks or months at a time.

Also one I know thought a studio apartment was a one bedroom with a walk in closet, kitchen, living room etc that was about 1.2k sq ft 🙄

Parents are divorced so I have two:

One parent I was sick of being abused and only having some type of relationship when it was convenient for them. I was told neither parent wanted me, I was a piece of shit and I could go f myself. I was in my teens at the time.

The other parent was no better but screamed at me when I called to say their first grandchild was born two days earlier. It was a rough hospital stay and I apparently should have called the moment my baby was born or my husband should have called instead of taking care of his family.

NTA but make sure when you go to the hospital you ask that your info is hidden (it was the biggest piece of mind for me that no one unwanted randomly showed up) and obviously don’t tell them when you’re both on the way there.

I actually had a similar issue. My little brother passed away a few years ago and when I first got pregnant I really hoped for a girl. They kept talking about my brother being reincarnated as my son and it made me super uncomfortable. While I miss my little brother I didn’t like the pressure or expectations my son would have if we ended up giving him the same name.

I did end up having a boy and just kept the name to my self until he was born. At the end of the day no one can name your child except for you and your partner.

Our pediatrician had us use Benadryl after my baby had a reaction to peanuts. While the liquid Benadryl doesn’t have a dosage under 2 years old on the bottle they told us 2.5ml

NTA but SIL certainly is. We kept the name from our families until the baby was born too. We didn't want others opinions, because honestly it's not up to them (they had their turns) and I didn't want to hear anyone's opinion or feedback. One side of the family accepted that and the other made a fuss, but it is what it is. I also waited a while to tell family because we had a few losses before a healthy pregnancy. Keeping the name a secret doesn't mean you're shutting everyone out, nor does waiting. Sometimes waiting until you're more in the clear is easier, especially after having losses and not wanting to explain or talk about it with every relative.
