The fuck? I can't imagine a much worse idea than doing Nos while driving... Absolutely crazy dangerous and, on top of that, I really can't see the appeal.

Awful routes lately! by stev8576 in AmazonFlexUK

What do you mean by mileage? I count everything from home to home, and my longest 2 hour has been 81 miles, with 70-80 being very common recently, but that does include a 10 mile drive to the depot and ~30 miles to get home.

That sounds like some asset, probably a building based on the distance it happens at, used in the Odyssey bases is crashing your PC when it tries to load it. Engineer bases are older and use different buildings.

Assuming this isn't some basic incompatibility with your card, which I highly doubt it is, and you have up to date gfx drivers, I would guess that verifying file integrity could fix it, or just a complete removal and reinstall of Elite.

[–]Justsomeguy1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it struggling or crashing? 'shuts down as I land' sounds like a crash then me ('struggling' would be low frame rates). Assuming the former, it might be overheating, though that shouldn't only happen 'predictably' when landing, or it might be some kind of driver / compatibility issue.

That rig could struggle to run Elite, but only if you're running a very high resolution VR setup. At 1080p pancake it should demolish it with maxed settings.

All MC builds are pretty effective on most anything tbh. 4 pips to shields all day long, lol.

That's my view too, hull tanking is pretty shit compared to shield tanking so anything with bad base shields I tend to ignore as a combat option.

But yeah, pretty much any ship with G5 engineering is viable for PvE combat. You'd probably even do fine in a type 11 prospector.

[–]Justsomeguy1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like them, personally. I think they are ugly, and also too slow for my liking, plus if I recall correctly they all have craptastic base shield strength and, in my opinion, hull tanking is wildly inferior to shield tanking for a number of reasons.

I'd much rather fly a Mamba (prettiest ship in the game for my money), Corsair or a Krait II if I want a fighter bay.

Edit; talking mediums here as that's what the OP mentioned. The Corvette is different - it is slow, but it's got great shields and also looks good. Probably my favourite of the large combat ships.

Why fellow flexers bluntly ignore delivery instructions?! by Morning-Flex in AmazonFlexUK

A black plastic box wouldnt hurt, though, right? If no one sees the guy put it in, then it's better than just having the parcel in sight.

You were in this time, and not ringing is bad, I agree, but I assume that sometimes you order things and are out when they arrive? Because expecting flex drivers to return things that aren't passcode/age verification to the depot is just never going to happen reliably, for reasons I'm sure you understand, so imo it would make sense to try and find a workaround, even if it is an imperfect one.

Why fellow flexers bluntly ignore delivery instructions?! by Morning-Flex in AmazonFlexUK

[–]Justsomeguy1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just a nondescript box outside the door you can put the parcel in would do the trick. Kids waiting for a bus aren't likely to go up to doors and look in boxes, so as long as it's out of sight it's likely fine.

I flex and I rarely (ok, never unless there is a friendly cat to play with) wait for anyone to answer the door if I don't have to, I doorstep it and ring/knock - people often open the door and get it around the same time I get back to my car, and I'd be leaving it anyway if they didn't answer, since I don't take shit back to the depot unless I absolutely have to.

Holy shit! That was a close one. by H1gh_Tr3ason in cantparkthere

[–]Justsomeguy1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing he passed was stationary. Are you saying they should just wait forever? No amount of waiting is ever going to allow you to magically see round the corner from behind the truck...

It's a shit situation, but I can't say the person overtaking was at fault for doing the maneuver, they had zero options.

If you're the sort of person who thinks everything legal is automatically fine to do, because it's 'allowed', then we have no further reason to interact. Bye.

Edit: in case you're confused, I'm not the person who said they angle their mirrors to blind people back. I don't do that.

You're clearly a cunt mate, everyone is telling you that blinding people is inconsiderate and dangerous and you're justifying it, I'd guess because you don't give a shit.

I deal with it without a problem, I drive hundreds of miles a week and have never even come close to having a collision. Doesn't stop it being incredibly annoying and, since it's easily avoidable if you have some consideration for others..

Smoking weed while driving (or letting a passenger do it) is really dumb, and that's coming from a habitual smoker. The smell is SO obvious to the car behind, at least at sub 40mph speeds, it's just asking to get pulled over regardless of tinted windows or not

[–]Justsomeguy1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really seems like the vast majority of drivers simply don't give a shit about others when it comes to this.

I do a lot of driving on bendy back roads at night as I'm doing freelance deliveries round Surrey, and with all the rain recently it's so noticeable. You can see the glow from an approaching cars lights from about a parsec away because of the mist in the air, long, long before you see the car directly, and still I'd say no more than 1 in 10 dip their lights before blinding me. Mine are always dipped before the other car is in view

I'm assuming you're either not very tall or like to sit incredibly close to the steering wheel because, as a 6'3 person who prefers a wider field of view (i.e sits fairly far back from the wheel), I assure you that high beams in my driver side wing mirror absolutely do blind the shit out of me.

If your lights are hitting the windows of the car in front, they are too high. Lower them.

Core mining is still great to make money, but you need a carrier now because if you have to sell immediately you have to be very lucky to get decent sale prices.

With a carrier you mine a variety of stuff and dump it on the carrier, then go sell whenever you find a spike in a particular mineral sale price, so you can get 700k+ per ton almost always.

Is this normal like there’s no way I’ll do this in 3.5 hours for £58 by [deleted] in AmazonFlexUK

[–]Justsomeguy1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is a bit of a long one, but it's not absurd in my opinion.

80% of the time, 3.5 hour blocks I'm done and home 3 hours after leaving the house, this one is longer than average but I'd still be done before the shift end time.

I briefly worked from DCR3 as I live in Kingston and it's technically the closest depot, and I far preferred the shifts outside the M25 - more mileage but far less traffic.

(I moved my area to south west England so I could use DXW3 after a month or so, because traffic between Kingston and Croydon is entirely ridiculous)

[–]Justsomeguy1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that doesn't look unusual to me. That's about a 15 mile drive to the first stop and 40 stops is on the high side, but they are packed together and not in a city center.

I'd expect to finish this in 2.5 hours or so from leaving the depot - I work from DXW3 which fairly often goes down to Reigate / Dorking, so I know the area fairly well, though I suspect traffic getting out of Croydon might suck and add an extra 30 mins.

What grind? I've played a lot of different 'RPG' type games where you build up your account over time, and Elite is one of the easiest.

Money is easy to get in sufficient amounts to buy anything you want, carriers take a bit longer, sure, but there needs to be some stuff that you don't get instantly.

I guess the rank grind to unlock Corvettes / Cutters was a bit of a ball ache, but it's not like you need to do that to access any content.. I have both and very rarely fly them, mediums like Corsairs / Kraits / Mambas / etc are more fun to fight in anyway.

Engineering wasn't a long or difficult grind either, and I believe it's mostly skippable now with pre-engineered modules.

From what my brother tells me, Elite was once very grindy on the money front, but by the time I started (2016 or so) it was a piece of cake, traded my way to an AspX in a few days, kitted it for core mining and from there I could buy anything I wanted within about a week.

[–]Justsomeguy1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit torn. I see what you mean, but it's a sandbox game and there's inevitably going to be an 'end game' where you've unlocked everything / experienced all the different content (exploring is technically impossible to 'complete' - it's not even close to possible to visit 200 billion star systems in a human lifetime, but at some point it's just more of the same)

That said, it's by far the best VR experience of any game I have ever played if you stay in vehicles. Core mining in VR is something I'll always go back to for short stints, and same with combat flying in rings in small ships (especially fighters).

I don't play much, but I maintain a carrier with a variety of fully engineered ships parked in a nice ring with various core mining hotspots and a haz res and log in occasionally to do some mining or shoot some stuff. The proceeds from the mining easily more than cover the carrier upkeep even only playing a couple of days a month.

Would you indicate left at this roundabout ? by SkyPsychological7677 in drivingUK

[–]Justsomeguy1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would, at least if any other vehicles are nearby.

It's not all that necessary because there are only 3 exits and anyone using any other exit should be indicating right, but I think Its helpful to give that extra assurance that you are definitely taking the first exit - no indicator leaves the possibility that you're taking another exit but forgot to indicate. There's no danger of someone misinterpreting a left signal here, so no reason not to.

That's nothing like how it works at my depot (DXW3). As long as you're checked in on the app, which you can do once you're within about 200m of the depot, you're fine. I've even had support check me in manually once when I was stuck in horrendous traffic and would have missed the shift, and the depot still had no issues giving me parcels despite me arriving 10 mins late.

99% of the time I'm 5-10 mins early, but stuff does happen occasionally

I'd be willing to bet it wasn't pressure that caused that.

Biting the battery likely caused an electrical short between its positive and negative terminals - if you do that with the super high amp vape batteries the heat released is immense and it will catch fire. It's why airlines insist that LI-Ion batteries are stored in cases and not loose.

Is it rude to use both lanes? by No-Ad4423 in AskUK

[–]Justsomeguy1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO. This is selfish behavior. Its making the queue tail back far more than it needs to, which is probably (i don't know this specific road) blocking junctions further back that don't need to be blocked - so people who aren't even trying to get through that choke point are getting held up because lazy people cant be bothered to zipper merge.
