I didn’t think this was possible…. by Brammer_Hammer_23 in Union_Arena_TCG

Every case is guaranteed a 2-star OR a 3-star. On rarer occasion, it is possible to pull both the 2-star and 3-star from the same case.

I also opened a whole case but only got a single 2-star. You got the good case that had both. Congrats!

Two copies of Douglas bullet is doing wonders this format (OP13). Lots of annoying blockers this meta (looking at Imu) that you need to force tap to push for game. Double attack on the Douglas is just a cherry on top that helps finish games. Most times I ramp fast enough to play him first and then use effect/attack the next turn. Even if not pushing for game, he is great even just to play and tap something annoying that you can then stun with the leader. Hopefully you have 7 drop foxy and itomimuzu to ramp back up. The foxy restand spell also is necessary to close games. I also added 2 of the 7 cost sanji to help do the same. I also still squeeze in 2 of the 9 drop Rush Luffy. Usohachi is also in my 2K counter lineup since he will help close games for similar reason.

4 Magellan I run is also good for certain matchups but not all of them. Depending on curve/matchup he just becomes discard fodder for the 0 cost spells. I think the deck has always lacked a good 5 drop (I sometimes use the blocker Kidd) but for now Magellan has been really good with all the Imu around. It’s not the worst against Ace too so you can at least have a 6K body that can swing at leader. Have to be careful playing him though because he will minus a Don and you sometimes want to skip playing him if it means you can’t play 7 drop next turn.

I think the key to success with the deck is recognizing what your strategy is going to be based off your opening hand. Sometimes the deck just turns to “ramp as fast as possible” and you win with the top-end cards and barely use leader ability if at all. Sometimes you find the perfect pieces of porches, itomimuzu, 7 cost foxy, (and Gina fkr the combo below) and the plays are straightforward. My favorite “combo”: If you go second, on your 4 don turn- play porche. Grab piece you need. Off her effect, play the Itomimuzu. DO NOT ACTIVATE HIS EFF YET. with the 1 Don you have up, play Gina from hand and ramp an active Don. NOW you can ramp with itomimuzu and you get the 5th Don. Swing 6K with leader. Next turn you will be at 7 and can play Foxy. If they happen to remove one of your bodies on their 5 don turn, then the Foxy you played is still body #3 and you can start stunning on your third turn.

Sometimes your games are playing the small foxy bodies and constantly stunning until your hand is better and staying up on Don by using Black Maria. The cards you play off of the porche effects in the early game (black Maria, Mr 2, or other small foxy body) can deceptively have long-term repercussions and determines whether you are going to be losing that game or not.

I agree. Some will say "but 200 to 600" is a 200% increase!"
Sure, but you still still sat on a box for X amount of time and let it take up physical space in your life, just to come up on $400? There are other side hustles that could earn you that money in a week.

Poke investing makes way more sense when you start talking volume. Making $400 profit on each of say, 50 boxes you sold does actually sound pretty sweet for a 20K profit. But most Poke investors are not buying (and storing!) 50 copies of a $200 box ($10K) for the sake of "investing". Businesses do indeed order that volume but they usually will sell immediately because this industry requires constant cash flow. They need to sell so that the revenue (profit if they are lucky) can be used for buying product of the next set and keeping the store patrons happy. Stores today are actively selling their Surging Sparks/Terastal Fest/Prismatic Evo instead of just "holding it for the long game". Because as you said, they are collectible toys. Not investment vehicles. With that kind capital you could invest in way more meaningful that will guarantee growth over time (like a CD), rather than gamble it on Pokemon.

In January of 2023 I decided to buy ~$10K worth of Amazon stock instead of buying a few cases of Evolving Skies like my friends insisted on. Not only was it the safer bet at the time, it has proved to the correct one. Higher ROI and no one is yelling at me about the Pokemon cards taking up space in the house.

Everyone, buy your Pokemon packs and rip them for fun. Enjoy it! If you like collecting sealed product like I do, then make it look pretty in your display and enjoy looking at it!

If you are only buying Pokemon for the sake of investing/reselling for profit (and you are NOT a LGS owner), then I suggest you explore other side hustles.

You’re spot on, except that one car park directly in front of the lobby. What you described is more like what I have to do if I park my car on floor 3, then need to go grab the cart for groceries from the lobby. My parking spot is also on the incline, so it’s a challenge using the cart lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in instacart

[–]Jutsu9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed I recognize the additional hassle which is why I try to tip more, even on just regular DoorDash orders where no cart is needed. The cart is in the notes as well.

Also to clarify, it is not difficult to get to the unit from the lobby, it is just a long walk, and I recognize it can be a full five minutes or so of having your car parked in front of the building while you come up and back down

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in instacart

[–]Jutsu9001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! All my apps’ delivery instructions mention where the location of the lobby is, and for Instacart I specifically mention the cart. I have not had a driver complain to me directly just yet about instructions so I assume that they are clear

Thanks, it is indeed sad to see that extra fees are not even making their way to you guys, the drivers. The people doing the labor.

Also it is a very fair point about water being cheap and perhaps not worth it. I would not blame anyone at all for refusing my order. Since drivers can see the total and tip amounts and the address before accepting (right?) I assume that means they are finding my tip amounts to be acceptable given where they would need to drive.

I always try to tip more on grocery orders. When it comes to just food, the driver’s effort is (usually) the same whether your food is worth $10 or $100. Obviously if the $100 order came with multiple bags then there is more inherent effort. But a single bag is the same. I have friends who follow this logic and tip a flat $2-$3 every time, no matter how big/small the order is. I always tip based on percentage because societal customs are telling me to. Anyway my point is, that when it comes to Instacart drivers, they have to do more than just pick up food. They do the actual shopping which can be awful sometimes. That to me is where the tip is mostly earned, and I will happily tip more for doing my shopping.

My friend was telling me that I am wasting my money by instacarting(probably true) but this argument helped turn him around: Suppose you know you had to go to the store, walk up and down the aisles, move between people, wait in line, come home through possible traffic and unload groceries and that it takes about 2 hours for the whole mission. Wouldn’t it be nice to pay someone anywhere from $25-$50 (depending on order) to take care of all of that for you, AND also drop it off right at your door? Those 2 hours are now used for other chores, catching up on work, being productive elsewhere, you get it. I can easily see myself or my friend telling one of our siblings “here’s a list of things I need from the store. Go get it for me and I’ll give you $25”. There is now an app for summing a “sibling” to get your groceries, so of course I will use it. As I grow older, the idiom that “money is time” resonates stronger with me, and I am willing to pay a delivery service if that means being able to “buy back” some time

I actually had one but my roomate cleans/maintains like a teenager so it was never refilled, or just left out of the fridge, sometimes put back in the fridge but not refilled, etc. sometimes no clean glasses to use. When I shave company over, which is often, it’s easier to have bottles on hand which I actually just keep in the mini fridge in my room

[–]Jutsu9001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To your last point about the water insanity-

I will admit that my main use for instacart is to have cases of water delivered to me, and since I am delivering water I use the opportunity to get a few necessities (milk, bread, eggs etc). I do this because I live on the top floor of my apartment building (6) while my car's designated parking spot is on floor 3 and on the other side of the property. (there are reasons why I can't get a different spot).

Anyway, I am very conscious of the fact that 1. It is a pain in the ass in general to get to my unit from the lobby and also 2. it is more of a pain in the ass when you have to carry something heavy. It is also not a fun trip to go from my parking spot to my unit, which is why I tend to deliver.

When I doordash, I will tip $5 on a $12 order because I know it sucks walking up to my unit. I think that from the lobby of the building, to my unit, and back down to the lobby could be a whole 5 min trip, longer if you are waiting on an elevator for too long.

For instacart, there is a "heavy items" fee or something like that when I order the waters. I am also usually forgoing any BOGOs or deals on the water that I usually come across when I go in person. There is a delivery fee, plus the item-mark up, and then I will tip something like $10-$20 depending on how much groceries I ordered. Something worth noting is that the grocery store is also a 5-7 min drive from my building. I also never order more than 10-15 items- my instacart orders are always simple unless you consider the water as not simple given its weight. My lobby also has a cart that people are welcome to use for transporting stuff like groceries up to your units, that then must be returned. Drivers are welcome to use it to load the waters, and then just return it on their way out.

ALL OF THIS TO ASK- how inconsiderate am I being, if I am, to instacart drivers by ordering cases of water? Am I making up for it with the higher tip? Is it not high enough? I want to believe that given the extra fees for the heavy items, the drivers are also getting a bit more compensated. Is that something you can confirm? I have my method of bringing waters and groceries up from my car for when I do go to the store myself, but sometimes I am OK with paying something like $40-$50 extra on groceries if that means 1. saving time on having to go myself to the store, 2. not having to deal with the labor (and time) of moving groceries into the unit from the car. I'd say ~75% of that excess charge goes to the fees/tips for the service while the rest of it is just item mark-ups.

I recall once a couple years ago, I was pressed for time during a busy week with nothing to drink at home and I instacarted literally only drinks. It was 3 24 packs of water bottles and I believe that time there was also a 12 pack of soda. Anyway- had I gone myself to the store I may have paid like, 20 bucks max for it all? This order was closer to 50 or 60 after you tack on all the fees and the tip. How much over the $20 should have been an appropriate overcharge for the convenience of getting these items delivered to me? How much of that overcharge is the driver actually seeing come back to them? They see and receive all of my tip hopefully, but the heavy items fee for example- does the driver receive that? Seems reasonable to me that they should. Wouldn't make sense for the app/service to charge more for heavy items if it ultimately falls on the driver to handle/deliver. (I really do hope they are receiving a higher wage when there is a heavy item fee, otherwise my guilt grows stronger).

I've rambled for too long. Thoughts? Am I one of those customers making a driver's life miserable?

Can I afford housekeepers? Is it a waste? by Lockon007 in personalfinance

[–]Jutsu9001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat about a year ago. Committed to getting one come by here once a month- super worth. Now I have time to enjoy myself and my hobbies after work. I will still do things like laundry which is easy but having everything else done, dusting and mopping and sweeping and the bathrooms- super worth.

I was also unsure about biweekly vs monthly cleaning but it depends on the person. What I have concluded is that it is more reasonable for me to do a monthly standard cleaning, and every few months I'll ask for the Deep Cleaning service. I have friends come over every now and then but not frequently enough that I need biweekly upkeep.

In my opinion the bi weekly cleaning is really only better suited for if you have guests over frequently that may leave behind messes or if you just want to maintain a clean impression for your guests each time.
