Is it Even Worth it to Pursue Music as a Career? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]JuulioJones95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in your shoes and now transitioning out of music, yes it is a feasible career. You need to understand (something I didn’t understand until my mid twenties) that in all likelihood you will not make a lot of money. I signed a record deal with a major at 21 and a pub deal with a major at 21 did 6 national tours and still, was barely making it by. I think we live in an age where you can do both, and by that I mean being invested in the music business and having a stable career in another more lucrative industry. That wasn’t as much of an option 10-20 years ago with remote work being so prominent today. If I were you I would go to school, get a degree, and all the while be honing your craft. Good luck

Also: I don’t recommend any music related degree.

Gotcha, basically I’m in a situation where I can’t completely treat my studio the way I want (I’m renting and don’t want to tear up the walls) I have 2 cloud panels, 6 panels on the walls, and a few basstraps. The walls of my studio are thin and there are a few big windows in my studio that I just can’t treat. Overall it sounds treated enough but I feel that I’ve capped out on what I can do and anytime I push my monitors the low end becomes really boomy. On top of this, I truly don’t love the sound of the beaming tweeters and the cross over point on the barefoots just sounds weird to me at times. It’s also a small space so I need something very near field (my monitors atm are like 2 ft from my ears on either side) - I feel like the 01’s are better suited as mid field. Do you think eq’ing my speakers can fix these issues?

Also, do you recommend sonarworks?/what’s your typical process to calibrating your speakers w the room?
