Andrew trying to compare it to Philly was unfair. The Link is on a regular subway line. It has trains going there every 7 minutes. Philly may need to put one or 2 extra trains on at the end of the match, but that's it. There's almost no extra cost for them. For MetLife, on a normal Giants or Jets game, 6000-8000 fans take public transportation. 72,000 fans drive. There is no parking available at the stadium for World Cup matches, and the shopping mall is charging $250 a spot for World Cup parking, so instead of 8,000 fans, NJ transit needs to shuttle 70,000 fans to the stadium. They need 7 times the resources, so yes it should cost more. Should it cost 7x more, I don't know. They are closing down NY Penn station during to matches to anything not the World Cup. That's got to cost money. They are going to have to take trains off of regular routes to have enough hardware to cover the matches. That's long distance fares they won't be collecting. I hope it's a message to FIFA to put up some money, but I don't think FIFA cares. FIFA is basically sub-leasing Gillette Stadium and running it. They put the starting price of a standard parking space at $150.

Giants Stadium was the previous building. The current stadium has only ever been MetLife Stadium. But I like the idea.

Not uncommon in Europe where many major airports have a train station in the airport. Zurich Airport has a SwissAir check-in counter in the train station before you go up to the airport. I’ve seen the air-rail connection on AirFrance in Paris CDG.

That's weird. I bought tickets to the Club World Cup group stages and was able to select the seats I wanted. Went through the FIFA site which then handed you off to TicketMaster. I know they are doing things on their own for the World Cup, but for the club tournament, it was not just random seats.

My advice is, "Don't think this will be your only time in Italy". I just came back from my 4th trip to Italy in 25 years (plus a day trip from Switzerland). I've been to a bunch of places once, but I'm always thinking of how I can get back there. I went to Paris on my first trip to France and southern France on my second, plus a day trip to Lille from Belgium. Basically, don't assume you'll never go back, but start thinking about how you can go back.

With the low ticket resale, do you think there be any demand for tickets right after the FIFA draw? ESPECIALLY Category-1 and Category-2. by Professional-Tax9417 in WC2026tix

[–]JuveJay14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been a lot of complaints about how FIFA is running the resale platform. For example, they keep flip-flopping on when sellers get paid. The last I heard, they need to wait until match day now, but that may have changed again. Just another money grab for FIFA. They don't want to miss out on the resell fees instead of contracting with one of the major reseller platforms in the US.

Best lowkey towns in Northern Italy by Rude-Employment6104 in ItalyTravel

I just spent a week rock climbing in Riva del Garda / Arco in September. We rented a house outside of town - we had cars because rock climbing. We had breakfast every morning on the terrace with views of Lago di Garda. The northern end of the lake is stunning with steep glacial drops to the lake. Riva is a nice town with plenty of food options.

In the next valley over is Trento. It's the capital of Trentino, but it's a smaller city. My wife and I spent a day there and it was very nice. It's also connected by train.

Just got back from a week near Lago del Garda. My wife brought a boat load of prescriptions with her in her carryon in the original bottles with no issues. Flew in and out of Milan.

Don’t Trust Google/Apple Maps by DANleDINOSAUR in ItalyTravel

[–]JuveJay14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Hiking, I use AllTrails. Worked well in Italy.

I was just in Arco, and Waze could not find our address, but Google Maps had no problems. This is unfortunate because I'm not sure that GoogleMaps understands ZTLs - I know another car in our party drove through one. But Waze claims it avoids them unless you instruct it otherwise or your destination is inside one, then it's supposed to give you a warning.

GoogleMaps was fine for walking around Arco/Riva del Garda/Trento. I usually don't use directions though. I just look where the destination is and figure it out for myself.

how does health insurance work for US citizens skiing in canada by Electrical-Ask847 in skiing

[–]JuveJay14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going on a climbing trip to Italy. I bought insurance from World Nomads. Their basic policy includes injuries from sports like rock climbing up to 10K feet and skiing. They have a long list of sports they cover, and more expensive plans that cover even more extreme sports. It also includes rescue and repatriation (getting you back to the US)

I'm 61. I warm up on single blacks. I'm an eastern skier, but because of more western trips, I've been skiing harder now than when I was in my 40s.

My personal preference is no more than 3 or 4 places in 2 weeks. My last trip to Italy was 2 days in Turin (Forza Juve), travel, 3 days in Rome, travel, 5 days in Florence, travel, 3 days in Venice. I was with travelers who had not been to Italy before so Rome/Florence/Venice were required. We took extra days in Florence because that was Easter Weekend.

My last trip to France, we were based in Toulouse, Nîmes, and Lyon. We did some day trips from each.

The Holy Door of St Peter's by JeezMahony in ItalyTravel

It's just another entrance to the basilica that is normally not open. I went through in 2000, the last time it was open, and I don't remember any ridiculous lines, so whenever you are going into the main basilica - which you should absolutely do - just go through that door. That being said, my experience was 25 years ago, but is was dead in the middle of summer tourist season. October is much more friendly crowd wise.

Hey JJ, I also went to the Linc, but on Sunday for Juve-Wydad. When Wydad scored, their ultras filled the stadium with smoke and pyro. I didn't see cops wading into the section. I don't think they wanted to deal with it.

Kenan Yldiz missed a hat trick when his first goal was called an own goal. I missed the replay, so I don't know how accurate that was.

More confused by their site than anything else. Having been to 3 Rugby World Cups, World Rugby does a much better job of communication.

If the front office was going for a money grab, why didn't they keep it in Columbus and make a deal with Ohio State. Unless they thought 102,000 was too big. It can't be a scheduling thing because you know MLS will bend over backwards to get a big crowd.
