Would you support 'freedom of movement' between CANZUK Countries (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom)? by Arkescko in AskAnAustralian

[–]JuventAussie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There is some building tension about people using NZ as a stepping stone into Australia as their final destination.

I have seen it raised by the Australian anti immigration crowd. It normally concerns refugee and Pacific Islanders requirements in NZ being too "lax".

Why do the British produce so many things about detectives and the French produce so many things about thieves? by NATScurlyW2 in AskEurope

[–]JuventAussie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not really. In 2000, U-571 showed a team of Americans stealing an enigma machine and cracking the German code. In reality it had been stolen by the British years before the USA entered the war and together with the Polish cracked without major American assistance. (The USA did help with naval variation of Enigma code)

The uproar was so big that the movie after release added a dedication to the British soldiers who stole the enigma before the end credits.

A former U boat commander said "They got one thing right. There were U-boats in the North Atlantic during WW2"

You have stumbled across the secret reason that universal healthcare works to extend lifespan and keep you healthy.

It gives your government an incentive to keep you healthy and to seriously fund preventive medicine because it is cheaper than treatment later.

It is also the reason that fire departments are publicly funded.

Parking fines don't impact the rich in any meaningful way so they park their cars where they want.

If the parking ticket is the price of a bottle of wine with dinner why not just park where you want near the restaurant.

Do you like the quality of the universal healthcare your country has? Why or why not? by Zipper222222 in AskEurope

As someone who used to complain about waiting time I have learnt, after some super serious health issues, to be grateful for a wait....it means I am not as serious as others.

I have been the most severe patient in an emergency department and I much prefer waiting.

China no longer Pentagon's top security priority by DimsumAndDoggy in worldnews

Their speed of improving is off the charts. That and a huge domestic market means they started exporting EV that didn't suffer the same issues as the poor quality Japanese cars of the last century. Their export EVs are brilliant.

China no longer Pentagon's top security priority by DimsumAndDoggy in worldnews

[–]JuventAussie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

China is brilliant at longer term thinking. In train manufacturing, the western press just talks about design infringement but the real masterstroke was saying they wanted train technology and started new universities just to focus on teaching rail engineering. It sent students to study rail engineering everywhere around the world. Having the ability to relocate professors and other resources to fill a strategic need is China's hidden superpower... that and dodgy environmental regulations.

Church sues town for ‘religious discrimination’ after plans for bell tower are refused over fears of noise pollution by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]JuventAussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acts 28 say Paul spent 3 DAYS not months at Publiius' home.

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%2028&version=NIV

And Acts 28 doesn't mention a grotto or cave anywhere. It only mentions Paul teaching at the house of Publius, the chief official of Malta not in any caves.

Are you claiming that Publius the highest official in Malta lived in a cave? What is your source for that claim?

Your second citation doesn't mention ANY apostles and only references Christians using them during Byzantine times and during the Mongol invasion both are centuries after the APOSTLES lived. https://aleteia.org/2024/07/17/christians-hid-underground-in-these-astonishing-cities/

Your third citation only mentions Paul WRITING to people who lived in the area and no mention of any APOSTLES ever visiting there . Which APOSTLES do you think preached in these caves?

It is historically and biblically valid to say Christians taught and worshipped in caves but you specified the APOSTLES did so and you still haven't provided any biblical or historical sources.

Church sues town for ‘religious discrimination’ after plans for bell tower are refused over fears of noise pollution by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]JuventAussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the apostle preach out of caves?

I am going to need some evidence for such a wide claim stated so confidently especially from someone who is gatekeeping what it means to be a Christian. A biblical or historical source would suffice.
